My name is Autumn and when I was about 7 yrs.old my dad bought me the Autumn casette... I havent heard these songs in over 27 yrs. I love you tube. George Winston you are a genius.
Fine job. I've seen George a few times live in small venues and I always leave feeling satisfied! Countless nights I've fallin asleep to thus particular piece. His winter album is prolly my fav. But there all awesome!
Can I ask please, how long were you learning this for? I am very amateur myself with no lessons but I can play very well and know off by heart a few Yan Tiersen works.
@Music4lme I don't remember how long it took to learn. Not very long would be my guess, as the piece is rather repetitive. I learned only the first two parts at first, because I didn't have sheets for the last two parts. I probably didn't start playing the last two parts until ten years after I learned the beginning. If I had to learn it from scatch today, it would probably take a couple of weeks to get down a polished version. Thanks for your interest and I hope this helps.
I've always wondered - at the 3:59 mark, does George Winston play the melody with just one finger, or does he alternate stroking the key with two? From a non-pianist, I don't know how it's done.
@gruberpants I believe he plays the tremolo alternating between two fingers. He alternates which finger he plays opposite the thumb. I definitely didn't play it the traditional way in this post.
wow. i dont know what else to say. moon is my favorite george winston song, and you performed it almost as good as george himself! (no one is as good at making it sound effortless and natural than george winston but you're pretty darn close!)
You play this song well. GW has a way of playing that sounds offhand even sloppy, but soo musical. Let go a bit and just hum the song to yourself and let your fingers follow
You make it look so simple. I have the sheet music for it and I am trying to learn it. You seem a big fan of George Winston, I am too. You should learn his version of carol of the bells if you haven't already.
I always wanted to play COTB from the moment I first heard GW play it. Once I learned it, I found it to be far easier than I expected, as it is very repetitive. I actually find the simple sounding Prelude to be much more difficult. Playing the notes is simple. Playing the notes and sounding like GW takes a great deal of work, if it is even possible in the first place.
Yeah, sounding like George Winston is hard. I learned Thanksgiving, which is really simple, but a friend of my mother's said that I sounded like George Winston playing it. HUGE compliment. I'm going to try to record it and put it up on youtube.
@bekieboo313 I absolute love George Winston's music. I looked on his sight and found a book but it doesn't have many songs from his album Autumn, which i would love to lear how to play. Can you tell me where you found the music for this? Thanks!
do u think you can send me this sheet music and any other sheet music you have of his? thank you soo much! by the way, great job playing it, it sounds like the real thing!!!!
hey... you know with 4:00? i realised GW created the fast left hand effect through repeatedly tapping the same note with the index and middle finger... just my two cents. But a very impressive performance indeed! :D
Hey, thanks for the nice comments. I recently tried playing a proper tremolo. Once I tried it, I remembered what my problem was... the action on my 30+ year old piano doesn't keep up with the quick repetition of a two fingered tremolo. Sounds defensive I know. It is my story and I am stickin' to it.
Great job dude I love Winston you did splendid! I know Nothin about tremolos or anything else for that matter i'm just starten on piano its much different then the drums HaHa
P.S. Where did you get the sheet music for it. Thanx
Thanks for the advice. I did notice your tremolos and how much better yours sounded. I tried years ago playing them between 1 and 3 and just couldn't do it. I have been playing the tremolos the wrong way in this song for so long, it would be a major change for me. I will give it a shot. Thanks.
very nice Joe. I especially like the tremolo attempts. I was thinkin of posting this... or at least a shorter version. hope to see more GW from yuh soon.
itedin - based on what I have seen of your technique, I am sure you would do a nice job. I hadn't seen the complete version, so I thought I would post one. I look forward to your post and your future work.

@JoeMerchant27 It does thank you.
I am the same in that I know too many songs only by their fist parts. I get too comfortable with it to add more.
Anyways, thankyou for sharing this song. You really give it justice.

Did you ever play Winston's "Give Me Your Hand"? Another lovely piece; about 2:30 long or so.

@gruberpants No, I never did. It is a lovely piece, though.

Ooh very cool. Back when I recorded my video of this I didn't try learning the part at 5:30 in your video. I gotta go try it now... ha
Oh and hey, it might be easier to do the tremolos if you use multiple fingers for it. I do 4 3 2 1 over and over.
