Oh mu gosh, THANK YOU. My guitar playing was sounding all empty and buzzy, and I watched this, moved my hand and finger placement, and WOW now I sound great! I've been learning Green Day songs and they sound all hummy.. now they are better!

Personally I think it's a matter of what feels best to the guitar player when it comes to thumb placement, the reason I say this is because of the way Jimi Hendrix played and how his thumb over lapped the fret board to the D & G string, maybe it's just the style but if you ever look at some of the great players, their thumb hangs over the fret board...again this is why I say it's not "best" way or the "right" why to place your thumb, but what is comfortable to the player to play great music...
