We can't do a thing about govt! We've heard that since children from our elders. A media that disinforms with highest best interests for the few? @mintoo2cool He was an extreme proponent of NAIRU and as such believed that supply adjusts to demand and it's independent of it, which makes no sense because 70% of our economy is consumption so if you have no demand ie. no wage increase that keeps up with productivity gains where is all that supply of goods and services going to go?! All of that supply Greenspan was "encouraging" with his helicopter monetary policy living in a libertarian laissez-faire lala land called OTC derivatives.
@madashelldude it "deprecates", e.g. literally dumpstered or sometimes burnt to produce energy. the unit production price decreases with every unit produced, and following the logic of price and margin-profits producers are better off if they rather waste their surplus products than supplying the market with them resulting in losses to prices. just my uneducated guess based on empirical data ("supermarkets")..

Explain why living standards increased so much before WWI if the spread of communism was the real cause of the west's economic improvement. This woman is a hack. Look up Jonah Norberg's comments at Reason Magazine.

Doesn't this woman realize that she "is the worst, full of passionate intensity." Yeats was writing about her. Her speeches always sound like something a left-leaning Ms. World pageant contestant would say.
We're missing movement, we're indifferent, because we spend our entire natural childhood in school, the entire time being told what to think and when to think it. The first unschooled generation will naturally take on the contours of another world without even knowing it. Nothing will make a dent in a schooled generation. Read Ivan Illich.
Americans are well educated and know what's happening with their country. The problem is that 2.3 million of them are in jail and the rest live under the boots of an oppressive police state: militarized police is beating up journalists during demonstrations and employing high tech torture techniques such as electro shocks to control crowds. There is a need for ever increasing oppression to keep this going and this is unsustainable and it will eventually explode. those in power know this.
They know that they prefer politicians that tell them what they want to hear, and point and laugh at anyone who doesn't tell them what they want to hear in the way that they want to hear it. What educated people find to be greatly persuasive is a candidate in a debate pulling a face that says, "oh, you lovable kook" while taking a swig from his water bottle the way McCain did when Ron Paul was talking. The so called "good Germans" were also well educated. They invented our schools. Ponder that.
That "stupid american" or "good german" stereotype probably has some kernel of truth but not more. I remember when I was in Timisoara in 1989 the Romanian revolution was started by a few hundred Hungarians protecting their pastor from arrest. Today incarceration rates in the USA are 3X higher than communist Romania in 1989, police is far more violent and that's an indication that it's really hard to keep this going and things are about to change, elites R scared and there is nothing they can do.
1) I didn't say, "stupid American". 2) "Good German" isn't a stereotype; look it up. 3) The civilized world is well schooled and therefore are composed of indifferent citizens. The only solutions they can imagine involve tweaking or enlarging current institutions, like forced schooling.

"Naomi Klein: "Is Another World Possible?""
No... sorry, this isn't high school anymore.
It's time to wake up, little budding progressives... this is all 'feel-good' nonsense.
We need more free market capitalism, rule of law and most importantly individual rights and property rights...
You will not get to where you want to go with the antiquated left.
Welcome to the 21st century.

"FREE" market capitalism is what wrecked our economy in Fall '08.
Amazing to see you are still clueless and misinformed.
Goodman and Klein are more aware and educated than you will ever be.
