the main reason the economy expanded so much 80's was because paul volker dramatically lowered interest rates in the 80's and regan did not create 21m jobs it was more like 17m. I know my candidate very well. Ron Paul has mentioned that the Fair Tax would be an improvement but it is not his plan. Ron Paul is for eliminating the IRS and the federal income tax and replacing them with nothing. His idea of a fair tax is no tax. Watch the Tonight Show interview.

Obviously, "No Tax" would be nice, however it's not an option. Whose going to pay for the maintenance of national monuments? What about the salaries of presidents, senators, congressman, and other federal officials? Not to mention the military. Yeah, there will never be such thing as NO tax. But I am in support of a much different tax system. I still wish I could get behind ROn Paul - it's an exciting campaign but I don't agree at all with his foreign policy views.

Bush's own conservative task force which said this plan hurts middle-income and gave more tax cuts to the rich. And the PREBATE is another WELFARE handout. FairTax would use an exclusive list price - product prices would include the tax. If a product is $100, $23=tax, or 23%. Opponents like this guy are saying that the price would actually be $77 and the tax would be $23.  Of course, $23 of $77 = 30%. Who didn't get past 6th grade? YOU.

they wave their hands around this point by theorizing that 22% of a product's cost, on average, already includes taxes through a trickle-down effect...

so after you get rid of those taxes, a product that did cost $100 would go down to $78. then if you add the fairtax back in, the product is a little over $100.

i like that it gets rid of the IRS and greatly reduces complexity in the tax code, but 23% is too high considering that the IRS only collects 75% of taxes as is.

The Fair Tax is absolutely constitutional. The criteria are: Indirect tax (any tax on purchases is indirect), uniform throughout the several states (check), and not imposed on exports (Fair Tax applies only to goods purchased in the US).
