What I think BA should've done here was to impress upon BOR the nature of the class (i.e. as one intending to teach students about the deconstruction of political discourse), and stress that he would be happy to apply the same methodology to the rhetoric of a "leftie" (Carter, say). Thereby, he could've presented his own inscription of the quasi-foundationalist quality of "balance". Not that is anything other than set-piece bullshit; but it might've been discoursively interesting to try that.

How does one "balance" texts which intend to give students tools for deconstructing political discourse? I have this prof. at fordham and though i agree with the fact that students should be able to see both sides.. not just pro-capitalist point of view.. Andrews seriously does not offer any other point of view besides his own. everything we read is very very liberal.. and as someone who considers herself liberal... i think its weird that i feel like i am not getting an unbiased account of the government through this class.

The whole purpose of academic studies is to evoke thought and debate about current issues. Bill accuses him of preaching anti-American rhetoric then dismisses his explanation. How is it anti-American to discuss and analyze topics related to the government? I'm sure the students are asked to research the claims made in the book and form their own conclusions.
