  • Pyruvate doesn't get converted to lactic acid in the body, which then dissociates into H+ and lactate.

    Pyruvate is converted into lactate which actually consumes (buffers H+) from NADH and H+. The H+ that is accumulated in the body is from ATP hydrolysis.

    This is what is causing metabolic acidosis, NOT lactic acid.
