JL is just awesome, I suspect the only reason he never achieved superstardom is an inability to work with others. (totally armchair quartebacking here, but from what I've seen and read- his own autobiography included- I'd say borderline personality and possibly mild autism) but jesus, he was so talented, he coud have been so much more.

as i must agree with you on him having the ability to achieve more, i think the reasoning may be a bit different. I always appreciated the fact that JL never stooped to trends in music to sell a record. He has been an iconoclast on that front. His PIL work is a bit hard for most people to digest or understand. His ability to get a rise out of people is unparalleled. I believe he just does not want to be following trend. He would rather be creating something truly different.

I'd agree that "iconoclast' is the perfect def of JL, so I will amend my statetment to say that *one* of the reasons he never reached his potential was/is possible emotional/neurological issues. I'd agree that he never sought fame and fortune by taking the 'easy' way, but I don't believe he never wanted it. And there have been iconoclasts who've been leaders and and trend setters, but JL isn't one of them. I think his personality got in the way.

(And his PIL work is my favorite JL era.)
