Lower gas prices ALWAYS result from a sluggish economy. In other words, if gas prices are low its because demand is low because people are driving less. The markets also have a big say on how much we pay at the pump.

Look, I know supposedly price controls in the '70s led to shortages, and economists HATE price controls with a passion, but maybe it's needed this time around?? I mean, if gas prices are MUCH HIGHER than what the oil companies would need to EASILY make decent profits, why not?? I don't see how lowering the price by law to something just a little higher (to give Big Oil a little breathing room) than what's necessary to profit would 'create shortages.' But maybe I'm wrong. Who knows!
