chris thinks shes dead but the scene in the latest trailer is the first time they actually see each other face to face in the game then that is why chris is so suprised to see her alive cuz she died at the mansion part in the flashback

well Sheva said, "you two were close" referring to him and Jill, so he's saying that he and Jill were Partners, either implying nothing more or that there's no bigger bond. when Sheva says "there's only so much on person can do", it's probably b/c he feels responsible for Jill's death. typical survivor's guilt. RE5 is about partnerships, which is what Capcom wanted to show with the pic of Chris at Jill's tombstone, cuz he lost his partner of so many years.
