  • This video was so helpful to me. I composed a list in Excel of what I would need from it and was able to find a lot of the things at yard sales such as the the small tupperware bowls, etc. I tracked down other items through the beforeandafterhelp website and Walmart and GNC. Thank you for keeping a diary for us all.

  • my name is krissy im 21 years old and i need to have the gastric bypass surgey and im very scared because i have never had surgery before. im not good with pain and am afraid to be put to sleep and not wakeing up

  • ok so i am having the surgery soon not sure when i am going thro consulation and all that what should i expect from the surgery? I am really scared my first operation ever!

  • Hi, I had the Duodenal Switch procedure & I'm 3 weeks out. I've lost 62 lbs. I agree with another poster who says u learn how 2 eyeball ur portions pretty quickly after surgery. Another true thing, ur taste buds DO change. Often I find that the food I crave tastes nothing like I thought it would. The best thing abt this video is the new idea for mixing my protein shake, b/c I was just starting to HATE it. Thanks!

  • Does anybody know what the mixer thing is, what brand and model right at 7:00? I want to get one, but I have no idea which one it is...

  • Thanks for the great ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is so great! I'm just starting out the journey and love videos like this that help so much. So great!

  • Hello, I just want to thank you for the video. It helped in so many ways. I just had my surgery and i am looking for ways to make a shakes better.

  • Did you have or do you know any orginazations that will help pay for gastric bypass. I am 30 years old and weigh 400. I seriously need help

  • Did you have or do you know of any orginazations that will help pay for gastric bypass? I am in desperate need of it. I am 30 years old and weigh 400. I seriously need help

  • My surgery date is Oct. 4, 2010. I am so nervous because this is my first surgery and stay in the hospital. I am so scared. You are an inspiration to me. From viewing your stories I feel better and better each day. I am also on the pre op liquid diet. I am able to have one starch, one vegetable and one fruit per day with the protein shakes. I might have cheated a little here and there with chicken bites and extra on the size for portion of the starch. What can I do?

  • Wow, thanx for that, that really helps, I wouldn't of thought to purchase smaller dishes and utensils, and come to think of it, I have no small cups or plates, looks like I have some shopping to do before my surgery.

  • You know. Not to be rude, but if you had used your "rules" of measurments, and knowledge of serving sizes, love of kitchen gadgets...if you'd have followed the simple plan of portion contro, lo fat, lo cal...and EXERCISE.you wouldnt have had gastric bypass. So many women now days, instead of doing the right thing first..they go get their stomach cut up. Ladies its simple. Put the fork down and get off your butt. And please dont get GB for your vanity..listen to u, youre obssessed with bowls.

  • I'm having Gastric Bypass surgery in 9 days. I'm lactose Intolerant and I'm hoping my diet goes to plan. How much did You weight before Your surgery and How much have You lost to date ????

  • I feel sorry for people who would rather mutilate the inside of their body with a risky, potentially life-threatening surgery rather than rely on losing weight through a healthy lifestyle.

  • Hi Amelia! I have been watchign a bunch of your videos today and I think this is my fave so far....I was wondering if you have a blog or journal where you have this particular type of info in writing....You are doing so great--keep it up!!

  • HEY EMILIA, I JUST HAD MY BYPASS SURGERY AND TO BE HONEST WITH YOU I'M LOST, I DONT KNOW WHAT TO EAT OR ENYTHING............. DO YOU THINK U CAN GIVE ME SOME IDEAS, MY E-MAIL IS : yadira_kyem@yahoo.com THANKS, HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU SOON !!!

  • I had it done last year...in fact, it was a year ago to the day. I have lost 170 pounds. I wish I had thought to do a journal on youtube! really, I commend you and congratulate you on your success.

  • You can use 4 oz of milk with half of a scoop to get 4 oz servings and you can up the protein with carnation sugar free breakfast mix which is 1/4 cup so for a 4 oz serving you can just measure an 8th of a cup.

  • I know this is an old video- but girl you have always been beautiful!! Loved this video! Do you still use the Centrum liquid? I gotta try that.... does it have B1?

  • I wanted to share with you that I have watched a majority of your videos and I myself am currently going through the bypass process and you have helped to inspire me to create my own site and journey my process through videos so to you I say THANK U

If you have any tips or suggestions please feel free to let me know.

  • Thanks for posting this. I am a candidate for Gastric Bypass Surgery. Been through the orientation session, interviewed the surgeon, and just had the "psychiatric evaluation" ... should be having the surgery before the end of the year. :-)

  • Great video. I will add that I really love the Magic Bullet blender. I love skipping the additional mess of having to get a separate cup to drink out of. Good luck on your journey. Keep up the good work.

  • **TFS**

  • hey doll can you tell me where you find that instant hazelnut coffee stuff?????

  • I really appreciated this video. You are so organized. I love it! I will be going out and purchasing some things like this. Good luck to you. Keep posting. : )

  • I have a question about the protein you buy. I went to get it from walmart but I couldn't find any without added things in it...like creatine or additives that would raise my heartrate. Does yours have that in it?

  • I know this is an older video, but thanks so much! I just had GBP two weeks ago and I find this very helpful. I also started eating right away with baby spoons. :)

  • im having mine april 13th :) so excited!

  • Man, Your great! The commentment you have is very awesome. Thanks for sharing. I have already wrote out a list and will go shopping today.. Gooo Wal-Mart.

  • thanks for the video! just curious how many times a day do you eat a day? do you eat like 3-4oz. every meal??

  • Today, I went out and bought a few items to get me motivated for my future of the mini meals. never would have thought to go there. Id of just used my huge kitchen plates. looking forward to it. I love you comment about not being Instutionalized.

  • Protein Power/ Bullet I hate milk so I am thinking the bullets that look like juice will be better do you have any other ideas to get the protein that i need that won't be flavored or milk based whereas I could just put it into juice?

  • You are truly an inspiration! I am looking forward to getting my date in May of this year for GBP surgery. I'm nervous but oh so excited! Thanks for taking the time to document your journey=) It really helps me look forward to a new life. I dream of being skinny too!!

  • where did u find the clear glass bowls?

  • i am having my bypass in 3 weeks and this video was very helpful... never would have thought about buying new utinsels...but it make perfect sense!!! thanks for the ideas!!

  • I take a prenatal vitamin. B12 sublingual calcium

  • Thanks so much for this video!

  • Hi, I would like to know how you make your shake using coffee. I'm having to surgery in three weeks and any info would be great. Thank you

  • this is the BEST vid about utensils that i've seen, thank you!!

  • Your videos are very helpful. I just started my journey into WLS, I have so many questions about what to expect afterwards. My biggest concern is how my personality is going to change. I have read a few comments on here and some of these people dont have a clue. WLS is not a cop out or a pathetic way to lose weight. Its for those of us that have tried dieting and exercise and never seem to lose any weight. Good Luck to you and Congrats on the weight loss!!

  • Is there anything else that you would recommend buying? I've already bought the books & other things you recommended so I was hoping that you had some more tips

  • Hi I AM sparkle i AM 3 dAYS AWAY FROM MY SURGERY HOW DID U PROMPT URSELF FOR URS?

  • hi just a quick note you shouldnt mix protein powder with milk!!! I know it says on the label, but its stupid, because milk has different enzymes and when you mix&drink it your body wont use all of the protein that it would if you mixed it with water! I know it doesnt taste so good, but it makes sence.good luck

  • what you are doing is great. but one thing you could also do is take conjugated linoleic acid in at least 3000 grams and you will burn at least 3 pounds of fat. great job still and good luck.

  • @ak47pr1 more calcium and iron are good too. you can get fruit chews calcium online.

  • Thanks so much for taking the time to make your videos. Your willingness to share the "good the bad and the ugly" parts of your journey has really helped me tremendously. I have saved this video for my upcoming pre_surgery shopping trip_ I am especially excited about the coffee addition!

  • thanks so much

  • do u really have 2eat like that when u have it done? i mean what if u just eat till ur full?

  • You eat that way in the beginning, it is like having your eating habits re-set. The small bowls and stuff help you re-learn what portions are and help change your perception of what is the new norm. i don't do this as much now except for fun

  • @christygurl06 you dont have to be that calculated at first. I cant even eat the whole 4 oz they say i should so i stop when full. You can even eat at resteraunts just pack up what you can't eat. You learn fast how to eyeball the volume of food you eat.

  • You are so pretty and seem like a sweetheart, congratulations on your weight loss, you should be so proud of yourself, and thank you for all the info, you really are helping others so ignore the rude people.

  • Thanks! I totally ignore the rude, I thank therm for watching. i must be interesting to them if they are watching

  • @blueoctfan1 what does she have to be proud of? she had surgery to force her to eat less. what is there to be proud of in that? i hope she enjoys being malnourished.

  • @kingcrimson234 trololololol

  • @kingcrimson234 hi! I am not malnourished, i am not an idiot or a loser. i am a person, a cool well liked person.. and you are??? a serial commenter with nothing to show

  • Wow Amelia, I look back on these vids and Im in awe...youve come so far. Do you have any idea what an inspiration youve been for so many of us? I truly envy you and the life you have now, free of the weight that was holding you back in life...I cant wait to get to the point youre now at. Youre marvelous!

  • Thank you!

  • @massagegoddess

Can you email me how to make your coffee flavored protein shakes???

  • Great video! Very informative and somewhat funny. Good luck as you continue your weight loss journey.

  • 4-6 hours is excessive. 45min to 1 hour cardio in the gym, 5 days a week with 2 full body strength days is sufficient to lose that amount of weight.

Still, I like the tips in this video (especially the 1 ounce cheat bowl). I think I may try that :^)

  • If you really need help to lose weight and get healthy, watch " The Biggest Loser." That show has helped me change my life around from literally hopeless to hopeful. Surgery for weight loss is a cop out and a waste of money. Even if I weighed over 750lbs, I still would never get weight loss surgery. People will look at you as not really working to take the weight off. I'm sorry to say that but it's true. In this video, you sound smart so I don't get it. Anyway, congrats. to you! Good luck!

  • Well, if you haven't been in our place, you can't understand it. And if you want to take just ONE day in our shoes, go right ahead and then tell us all that its an easy way out.

  • Why did you resort to gastric bypass surgery? Surgery itself is quite barbaric. Also, surgery will never change your relationship with food. The way to deal with obesity is not through surgery but through diet and exercise. I used to be obese myself but I'm now at a healthy weight and at a healthy bodyfat percentage. I changed my life through diet and exercise. To me, surgery for weight loss is a pathetic cop out. That's kinda like telling somebody to work for you and you get the credit.

  • Why dont you get a damn life? You dont know her, so dont judge her. And to say surgery is a "cop out" is absurd! This woman has worked her ass off at this, and its not been a walk in the park for her. This is the hardest thing to do, dieting is easy compared to this. As a former obese person, would expect more compassion.

  • Don't comment to me again you rude bi%^&tch!!!

  • "If you don't have anything nice to say to people, then shut the f up!!! "....practice what you preach dear.

  • Okay...I'm not trying to be rude, ugly or mean. But, You said Dieting is easy compared to this. If that fact is true then why don't most people just diet instead of doing the extreme of a surgery. And yes any Surgery for weight loss is an extreme do to the chance of death.

  • Dont you think if it was easy as just going on a diet, we would do THAT instead of THIS? And youre right, it is extreme...but its EXTREMELY important to get healthy and if this is what it comes down to to GET healthy, then thats what some of us have to do. I guess some people just dont get it.

  • Hey ran into your video by mistake but it is awesome! I had a GB in 1999. I've had two more kids since then. :o) but no tummy tuck. Great info!!!!!!! Thanks for the vid. Oh I love Tupper ware too. :o)

  • your an ass.... jeremie2009... but there is hope for you...

  • This is very helpful, Thanks for posting this, I'm finding great Ideas here!

  • Amelia~ Congratulations. I plan on having the surgery done I just started seeing a dietician and I have had some tests done. I am a little nervous about it I keep hearing different stories from people where they have had the surgery and then they gain the weight back plus more but watching your videos you have lost so much weight. That is so cool. So my question is you just have to put your mind to it correct? Hope too talk to you alot about this if you will be there.

  • LOL, your still taking the time to watch my videos.. good for you. Hope you enjoy them and learn a thing or two

  • Don't listen to that freak Amelia! You are great.

  • I'm still going through all your videos - I see you've lost so much weight. Congratulations!

I did however want to say thank you for posting this follow up vid for stuff you actually use. It was extremely helpful for when I have surgery next month.

  • This was very helpful. thanks!

  • So I just found your videos yesterday and wow it is just amazing...I am just starting the whole journey and I freaking went out and bought almost everything you listed LOL I am just so freaking excited to get started on the loosing path thanks for being a wonderful inspiration... :o)

  • Thanks so much for all the great information

  • Yes i have a Q: is it true after surgery you have to eat baby food? what kinds foods did u start off puree'ing

  • I actually never ate a single bite of baby food. i was able to eat a shrimp and scallop at day 10 post-op, i just kinda didn't need the puree stage. BUT you must listen to YOUR surgeon.

  • I bought baby food but I don't know if I can bring myself to eat it

  • how awesome is it that so many cups or bowls have the measure lines on them? good for you!!

  • You are AWESOME. Thank you so much for this. Off to Walmart I go tomorrow!

  • ya know, I just happened across your video and can't help myself: you seem like such a genuinely caring and wonderful person. Good luck with whatever your goal is :)

  • Very informative, you should be on a Gastric Bypass team to educate patients. I would love to have someone like you on my team who has been through it. My surgery date is for July 2009. I'll try to post things here on Youtube.

    Eec

  • Love the Tupperware and thanks for the other gadget ideas too. Walmart here I come.

  • This has helped me alot to watch I am goin to have my surgery in a month and was wandering how to start getting ready Things to get this has helped me out alot :)

  • Hey, I'm about to go to surgery. And looking for other people that are going through it or have gone through it. Add me as a friend and send me an email and we'll chat. How long since you had your surgery? How u doing with it?

  • I could not live without my digital food scale. I use it several times a day, every day! :)

  • I've seen this video before, but as I get closer to my surgery, I came to watch it again.

It is incredibly helpful!! LOL I sat here with my pen and paper and made a list. I'm sure I will find things along the way also that I find useful, but this is a good jumping off point!

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

    Nicole

  • wow, you're really pretty :o

  • Great video! Will use the ideas even though I did not have the surgery. I still need to lose weight. How are you comming along? Thanks again for sharing!

  • I am not going to have the surgery, BUT watching your video really inspired me with LOTS of ideas that I can use for my weight loss. Thanks SO much for sharing :)

  • saw your most recent, week 55, AWESOME! :) but, checked this one out, too...thanks ALWAYS for the great tips! keep going, amelia! :) my sis got gastric last year, she's doing great...my lapband surgery is in 18 days... woo hooo! peace.

  • Very interesting.

  • Hey Amelia I was wondering what exactly is the brand of "blender thingy" that you use (the one u got at walmart) I went looking for one but I couldn't find one similar to that one.

  • This is a ggod video on portion control. I'm not having gastric nor do I qualify to have it. I'm 217, with no health problems. I exercise 3x a week and paddle canoe. It's really what I'm eating, so this information will help me. I wish I could have the surgery!

  • I know this is an older video, but I'm going through classes on gastric and still making final decisions about whether or not to get it, but three things they've told us is 1) no cheese, 2) no milk, 3)no caffine.

Here you've discussed eating or drinking all of the above. Is what they're teaching us a load of bull, or is your body just okay with lactose, and your pouch isn't being clogged by cheese, and is your coffee decaf?

    Thanks,

    Larissa

  • Follow what you are told, but cheese is an excellent way to get protein. i have never had a problem with it. Caffeine is something I think they say to us, but my surgeon said as long as my blood pressure was good it was ok for me to have it. Milk is fantastic. I buy the lactose free skim milk and make my shakes with it.

My coffee is strong decaf is no fun ;)

  • Hi thanks for your video. I had my surgery 11 days ago so I have a lot to learn .This has a lot of good sugestions

  • i really hope your future life is a great one =) seems like everything with you is good. i hope your "cardio" and weight lifting program goes well =D

  • You're such a silly sweetheart! What an inspiration you are to a lot of people.

    Madeline

  • Amelia, hey watched several of your videos this morning. I worked all night in the ER came home tired this morning and couldnt quit watching your clips. You are such an encouragement and what a great personality. From the beginning postop when and how much exercise is norm 4 you??? Keep up the great work!!! Also how is your mental health? do you crave alot? I have a wierd relationship with food and feel like I will be getting a divorce from it.I mtg my surgeon first time Nov 18!!!!!

  • Thanks! what a compliment! I started a cardio/ weight-lifting program at week 6 post-op. I got a trainer to make me a list of weigh machines to use and taught me how to knwo how much weight to lift and a stretching floor exercise routine and I did it 3-4 times a week consistently for 5 months. I then switched to outdoor stuff for a while, but I have been super naughty for a few months because I have 2 jobs and a house to take care of. I am starting my weight-lifting program again when cleared

  • Hey Amelia

My name is Gemma and I had a gastric bypass the day after you had your tummy tuck! Congratulations, you have done so well and look fantastic.

I just wanted to say thanks for all the info you have given and how you have shared your story. It has made it so much easier.

    Take care,

    Gems x x

  • Congrats!!!!

  • this is a great help!!!!

  • I bought that cute little spatula at KMart today. I got a sippy cup (without characters!) too. Thanks so much for the tips.

    Susy

  • Thanks for the helpful info. You seem very organized and somehow I feel like my recovery and adjustment will be a little bit easier. I havent gotten the surgery yet, but I will soon! Thanks again.

  • Thank you for posting this. You have provided me with a lot of good info and ideas!!!

  • You were always beautiful! I feel a connection with you, your personality is so much like my own! I am 2 weeks out from my sleeve and I hope I can have the kind of success you have...although I am encountering my own bumps in the road. Good luck with your tummy tuck! Thanks for being such a positive force!

  • Hi Amelia, what is the name of the vitamin you purchased for hair loss?

  • Thanks for the info!! I think Walmart heard about your video because they jacked the price up to $15 for the little blender lol.

  • Hey, your videos are great... My name is Fontella I'm 21, and planning on having the surgery this summer 2009... I've been worried about getting it, and your videos really put me at ease... Thanx so much

  • Between the gut and the brain. Also read about another treatment on trial being held of obesity injections and nasal sprays, that's meant to be available in the next 5 years that'll stops people feeling hungry by lowering the levels of the hunger hormone Ghrelin among others to reduce appetite.

  • My hunger is back, but I get full easier on smaller amounts and i have to eat healthy so I am glad I have a physical barrier to not over-eating. I have never for one second regretted the surgery

  • I love your videos, very motivating and inspiring. I was wondering what you thought of the alternatives to Gastric Bypass surgery? And how you came about deciding they weren't for you? I was reading an article about Gatric bypass that said one of the main reasons it works is because of the nerve
