maybe, if Grandma is the future self of all the girls then staying on the path symbolises their good life leading to the forseeable end (grandma lying on the bed). However, by straying from the path, they are altering their own futures and are seeing within grandma's house where too much temptation gets you (enevitable death/pain/suffering)
Hmmmm, Scarlet's portrait was above the Old woman's bed, does that mean the old woman is Scarlet? & that the Path to her house, is Scarlet's life path to her future self? And that they did nothing if they just followed the path, or went off the path, didn't encounter any wolves then went back to the path.... Hmmmm, so very confusing but I think I have got it now :)
@RosesSweetRoses You only get the 'hints' on subsequent attempts if you get a 'failure' ending (which involves making it safely to Grandma's house, and requires no items to get) - the number of items you get has no impact on it.
@RosesSweetRoses Each time you get a 'failure' ending (by just running to Grandma's house), the game gives you more information on your subsequent playthroughs. I don't recall which one this is specifically, but you get various things from a basic map (tracks your movements with a dotted line, but not the terrain you're traveling over - so you know where you are relative to where you've been) to simple radar pointing at the major landmarks.
there is no real failure ending. you either die or dont. you didnt get the bad ending you got the... normal ending. the failure is if you die. but to fail is to beat the game so.... i dunno
@skudwerd No, this is the 'Failure' ending. The 'Success' ending is when you encounter the wolf. Check 2:35 - it says "FAILURE" in big-ass letters. Pretty clear that this is, in fact, the Fail ending.
@KrazyKacophony not nessecarily. They can be interpretted that way but.. I can't help but feel like it's more about growing up. for instance Scarlet's wolf...it doesn't seem to actually harm her directly. In fact it goes to "help" her play the piano. But scarlet was always burdenned by the other kids most likely(no mention of dad, and mom just sends you out of the room and into the world). It seems to me she couldn't balance life and art and became unhappy more then anything.
Dude. If I walked in and that wolf was moved AGAIN, I would effing go Chuck Norris on that thing, like "Sorry G-ma. but this thing is creepy as hell."
anyone else think this game is symbolic for the girls coming to terms with their grandma's death? cos, when you get a failure ending granny looks to be dead. and, maybe the girls had a really close relationship with her, so when they find out she's dead it's like they're dying as well? hmm. doesn't make much sense, but neither does this game!
Maybe, but I saw an interesting anylyzation on the web that the girls were not real and actually all a part of the same person (i.e. the grandmother) and each one and their wolf encounter symbolizes one of the hardships of growing up, like Ginger realizing you can't be a kid forever, Carmen learning to deal with rejection, and so on. If you want, I can send you the link in a private message, it's actually a pretty insightful interpretation.
1:06 I think that's a sculpture? Scarlet's an artist.

can you get mauled by a bear in this game btw? i heard girl's menstruation attracts bears... :s

I can't help but feel that the 'failure' ending implies that the girls never came to terms with their fears or problems.
In reality, the wolf is still out there, lurking in the shadows -- but they use grandma's house as a temporary escape instead of facing it head on.

Am I the only one who noticed the strange totem at 1:08? Maybe it's just me, but I feel that's important somehow.

So if the girls fail, the grandma is dead in the end.. and if they 'sucess' the girls all die?
thesoulforge 1 year ago
@thesoulforge Grandma opens her eyes though. I mean, like, creepy use to be dead girl style.
EagleLauncher 1 year ago
@thesoulforge no she isnt dead, and this is technically the good ending. the fail is all the girls die.

I've played this game a few times and would love to know what all those symbols could be. I've thinking so many things myself. It makes my head hurt.
