  • This instrumental first came to me in a choreography made for some fellow dancer in 1988..and since then I could not get it out of my mind. It is an instrumental to hear with your eyes closed.....it makes it a thousand times better.

  • Hebrew music is divine..I am sure that is how he chose his people. When I hear it it sends a chill down my spine. It is full of love and sadness.

  • MY DEAREST ONE

  • This music reminds me the Gulf War...

  • I listened to this album in 1995 on LSD and have never been the same since! That nite, I saw the light people!!!!

  • Jivan Gasparian - armenian duduk song

  • una obra maestra...pocas veces igualada

  • The oplites are marching...

  • I loved both the book, the movie and the music.

  • como me gusta esta musicaaaaaaa!!! :)

  • this is just sublime!!!!

  • How this wasn't Oscar nominated is still a mystery to me.

  • @wowbobwow37 It think the whole controversy surrounding the movie itself may have militated against that happening.

  • @senorsalazar

Scorcese still got a best director nomination, granted I think it might have been the films only nomination, I'd have to check.

  • Ink Blot Test: I see a man looking over his shoulder to the left. Walking through the desert with sand blowing all around him.

    What about you?

  • @Bpalmer318 A soldier of old ages in the desert on a horse riding fast. I see him from distance and then i zoom in.

  • a work of pure genius

  • Brilliant music.

  • Thanks for the post, Epic and a personal favorite. Regards e ;)

  • Religion is a sham.....always has been, always will be. Allah and Jesus are all fake

  • When the man meets the God. Incredible music from Peter Gabriel.

  • peter gabriel is greater than you might think

  • The dual substance of Christ- the yearning, so human, so superhuman, of man to attain to God and identify himself with him- Has always been a deep and inscrutable mystery to me. This nostalgia for God, at once so mysterious and so real, has opened in me large wounds and also large flowing strings. My principal anguish and the source of all my joys and sorrows from my youth onward has been the incessant merciless battle between the spirit and the flesh. - N. Kazantzakis

  • @kubrox91 Nice work, great quote. Regards e ;)

  • i think this music really captures the atmosphere I imagine of a 1st century palestine/israel in the time of Christ. Moody, exciting, augury. -sort of transpersonal and apocalyptic

  • probably great music....but how the hell could it beat watermark by enya for the grammy in 90!

  • @figbat1 Easily.

  • @giantjuggernaut ......greetings jughead from the apple isle....you wouldnt know good music if it ran over you in '59 commer removalist van......go back to your golden gaytime icecreams for breakfast and your midnight oil with lucille garrett.

  • Magnifica melodia. !

  • I feel a little bad even bringing this up, but... it's true: This is the best album of all time for sex.

  • @EconAtheist I owe the existence of my daughter to this album and my husband for showing it to me..

  • @DCrains

Does your daughter know about this? -_o

    :D

  • @EconAtheist It's true. Absolutely.

  • @EconAtheist I relate. So much so that I feel a bit bad for responding. My latest wife and I had mad sex to this a while back. That remains a good memory.

  • Masterpiece.

  • wonder

  • this is one of the few albums I become lost in and it's been that way since the cassette days! never gets old!

  • reminds us that suffering and sorrow, what else could

  • I simply wanted the best recordings of the music from the film I bought the audio CD, when it was first released. (I felt this piece of music could have been more awesome if it lasted longer, imho)

  • O.K.

  • But don't forget... as much as I love Peter Gabriel, and he DID do a fantastic job of orchestrating this tune. He didn't write it. It is an old Armenian folk tune called "Hovern Enkan" (A Cool Wind is Blowing)

  • peter gabriel is a killer

  • What is astonishing about this masterpiece is that the music describes how a feeling begins: like an insinuating breeze which soon becomes a thought. An invasive thought that will become itself compulsive and will turn into a breathtaking emotion. An almost traumatising emotion, a mind-blowing anxiety which will take over the entire body and spirit, until it will reach paroxysm...

  • @Kaiiria "Thankyou for this and put in such an accurate and descriptive way !!!

  • @Kaiiria exactly how I feel.

  • @Kaiiria That is one awesome way to describe this music. Thank you.

  • Absolutely shivering.. It reminds of the bygone times while being timeless itself.

  • duduk always takes me to the desert

  • In my head I still hear the guitar twang that plays in the movie when Martin Scorsese's name appears.

  • masterpiece...

  • Unbelievable!!!!

  • I listend to this album three times drving from sacramento to eureka through route 233 freak'n awsome! made the scenery that much more intens i highly recomend it

  • prekrasno

  • This album is just one of the top of my collection . when i need to calm down and put my mind on a diferent direction ,i listen to this amazing piece of art.

  • if i have to pick one my fovorite soundtrack , this is it...

  • LOVED THIS ALBUM!

  • Isn't this Persian Love song? Dead Can Dance and Frontline Assembly/Delirium have used parts of it too. Cool stuff in any case.

  • @daemona71 I think you might be right. Loreena McKennitt has also used it, I think. Might be some traditional ditty that they all borrow from heavily. Well, like a wise man said, imitation is the best form of flattery! :-)

  • @daemona71

How cool if it is :) I am from Persia and it sounds so exotic. Like a real desert song.

  • wow. Does he have any other songs like this??

  • @gndancer667 The whole album is full of this kind of songs :D

  • Thank you Privatepigg for taking the time to put this together, I come from the land of jesus's first miracle and this music connects me back home.

  • One of my favourites themes from "Passion" and the original soundtrack of "Last Temptation of Christ". One song and one movie that take me to Morocco this summer. Lands of sand, mystey, traditition, exotism and lots of PASSONS.

  • Kakva glazba.Fenomenalnooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • How thought that P. Gabriel could create an anthem like this when most of all knew his commercial "Sledge Hammer"....

    Awesome!

  • @facinum - Same here - I only learned of Peter's other work about 4 years ago, then immediately got all of his albums!

  • @facinum Peter Gabriel was ,amidst many more...also the founder of Early non-commercial and intellectual band Genesis...quiet a while ago.

  • Please, let's not forget the masterplayer of the duduk instrument Mr. Jivan Gasparyan,

it's so beautiful, You can find more of his work in YouTube

  • Wow, after 20 years I still got goosebumps listening to that masterpiece - the whole album is.

Thanks Peter and all musicians involved.

  • I WERE 6 WHEN I HEAR THAT IRAQ HAVE WAR .. I WERE WATCH ON TV THAT SHIT NEWS I WERE SCARED AND AFRAID .. NOW ME 24 I GO AFGANISTAN FOR WAR .... SORYY KIDS .. ... DONT SCARE I WISH THESE ARE LAST WARS

  • @baracuda3133 Bless you...

  • Very, very good...but the lost truth, or the hidden one, is that Mr. Gabriel, a very good composer and musicant should have paid tribute to his colleague, Vatche Hovsepian, a genial duduk player, whos melody "hovern ynkan" /cool breeze/ is the main theme of this part of the soundtrack, and is several times repeated elsewhere in it. This would be fair. Behave the people the way you would like them to behave with you!!!...That would add lot of respect to Mr. Gabriel's person and art...

  • sorry ..... but this is very old Egyptian music ....... that is why peter Gabriel stayed for a while in south Egypt while writing this album

  • Would love to see a gymnast use this for floor music.....the right person could really do something with this piece

  • its very nice

    i like it

an when this were used with mevlana jalaluddin rumi, it will be greate
