Hi thanks for making this vid. I used it to change my hard drive. My TC1100 is now giving me a problem where it shows me garbled screen while booting. I found out that it is some solder problem where it connects with the screen which affects the video. can you please through more light on this? i'd really appreciate it!
@TheCatMilton I am not certain, but I think that the cpu is soldered to the motherboard, and if you wanted to upgrade the cpu you would have to replace the motherboard/cpu combo. Although, I am not sure, so I may be wrong.
@TheCatMilton Make sure its an ultra low voltage cpu with a fsb of 400 mhz and that you have updated bios before you do it because you could ultimately Phark up your system.
I have a problem with my tc1100, when i turn on only the hdd and leds are on, but no booting or hdd activity...hard reset didn't work (disconnect battery and ac power, then switch on)
Thanks very helpful but must ask dose upgrading the ram on this laptop make it faster and better dose anyone know I just don't want to spend the money on it and it dosnt make it faster I think it's 512mb Now will it be much faster with a 2gb ram anyone know ?
@liop1986 That appears to be a graphics card problem. Mine would occasionally mess up like that but not everytime, maybe once a year. Also check the connections.
@delukard The pen shown in this instruction is actually a replacement pen I purchased from ebay. It has an eraser end on it too and works fantastic. Just do a search for TC 1100 pen or stylus, it should be a $45 replacement. Much better than the factory $120 replacement.
I have problem with my HP Tc1100, when I turn it on, on the screen apears some funny characters. I have been looking for a long time on the internet for this problem but a didnt find nothing. I need help
That was scary. For years, I haven't dare do anything like that with my 1100. I just might now, so I can have the 2gb of ram. BTW, is the HDD 2.5" or 1.8"? Might get an SSD. Want to know what to get...
I've watched your video a few times & am slowly getting up the nerve to disassemble my tablet.
I am wondering, though: Is it at all possible to upgrade the video card??
(I figure if I'm going to take it apart, then I might as well do everything I want to do the 1st time.) Thanks in advance for any thoughts you might have.
After watching this video I was able to upgrade my internal RAM. You did an amazing job of video taping and explaining. Thanks a bunch. You're awesome!
The hotswap feature is when you put the computer into standby mode you can swap out the batteries quickly and be able to resume without having to go through the whole boot menu.
Cracking video - I've read the service manual but my tc1100 was *very* stiff to part at the button edge - so seeing and hearing the "click" was very reassuring. 2Gb now installed - thanks for the help! :o)
Thanks SO much. I'm no longer afraid to do it. But, does the additional RAM really improve the overall performance enough to make it worh it? I'll probably open my TC1100 just to clean it. The fan seems to run too much.
For users running vista and 7 I hear it makes a load of difference, but I personally have not put more memory in, this was just a demonstration. But if you do put more memory (>1.25GB) in you almost always loose the "hotswap" feature, not critical but it is a downside. Other than that adding memory to the tablet is a sound choice.

@mattd28 Thanks for the confirmation

@mattd28 yeah, but this only supports IDE, and theres no room for a adaptor, so unless you can find a IDE SSD, it aint goin to work

@PeterRSewell
yes they are pretty easy to obtain, even ebay has several listings, rgds
