Hey, I'm a self taught guitarist so I don't know a lot about chords or music theory, but I am at the point where I can hear a song and know how to play it...
Do you think I should take a music theory course at all? I noticed you could just name that chord, but at the same time, didn't really know your way around the guitar. Did you just name it by ear? If so, I've still got a lot of work ahead of me.
jack. thank you so much for this tab. I love all your music, and your guidance that you gave me initially in my choice of recording equipment (and just listening to a fellow artist!) and things has helped me grow into the musician that i am today.
... A wise musician once told me "keep it simple stupid". This song is so simple, but.... It is one of the most amazing songs I have heard in my life. I base a songs "goodness", for lack of a better term, by how that song makes me feel. This song puts me in an other-worldly, cosmic, fuck I dont even know how to explain feeling. Jack you are an inspiration and I strive to be as creative as you.
Very nice of you to do this for people. You stand out in this world full of those who wouldn't take the time. You are really good to those who dig your music. I always get the feeling that you have a big brain, but an even bigger heart.
Jack...you name the strings just like I used too -with the low e string called first string-, and I think it's more logic, but most people in the world say that the high e string is the first, the b string the second and so forth...it got pretty anoying when I tried to comunicate with other guitarrists...
I dont play the guitar but you are the man for posting a video on how to play. most people dont even want to show tabs for their songs for some reason
I tried to learn this on my own but was obviously missing some chords. Thanks so much Jack. I also really like the power chord sound like you said, with the octave and the 3rd. It is a different sound, and it is really nice.
I'm sure he's the kindest living musician ! He gifts us with his awesome music, and also shares it. Some musicians are too selfish to do that. Thanks a lot Jack!!!
Hey Jack =) So the chorus is B G D C... awesome! Your way of writing is so nontraditional and well thought out. It's such a relief to hear your progressions when I'm so used to hearing the same tired C F Am G etc.
I don't mean to make you go to so much work - you're doing us a big favor as it is... but I'd love to hear a walkthrough of it from a writing perspective too. At least, maybe you could write the chords you chose (full chord names if they include the 9th, 7, M7, etc) in the sidebar
When you record the drum line of a videosong, you record every single piece of the drumset separately, then you use an audio editing software to create your drumline?
it depends on the song. most of the time, i record each part separately, and construct the beat with the pieces. sometimes i double track live drums. sometimes i do both! depends on the vibe i'm going for in the song.
I have a suggestion. Maybe you could tell us what motivated you to write the «tabbed» song. Like where, when, why, for who, etc. ? I think that it would allow us to understand your songs in a much more profound way. Anyways thanks again for all that you do, I'm sure it's gonna be a pretty busy summer for you !
You forgot the riff :(

Also, to continue that last comment, do you think music theory and all that chord stuff really helps music composition?

One of my favorite songs, just wish you would have put some actual tabs up for it instead of a video, tabs are easier to follow.

Hey, Jack. I'm having trouble on the strumming pattern when you start singing "I will swallow it whole..." etc.
Do you think you could type out what exactly the strumming pattern is?
Thanks :]

I was messing around on my bass and this sounded actually pretty good on it because it's the same strings. Keep the music coming!

Totally agree with guitareluver - explanations of the songs and how they came about as short intros to the "tabbed" series would be awesome.
I'd also love to see a VideoSong how-to as well.
Keep up the great work. How are you unsigned?? Or maybe you're actually better off that way...

a question for jack:
When you record the drum line of a videosong, you record every single piece of the drumset separately, then you use an audio editing software to create your drumline?
Or you play the whole drumline "live"?
TankShock087 2 years ago
Interesting question, I'd like to know as well. I'm guessing he uses epic mixing to get it all together.
