  • the extra personality that the mom has is terrible! how sad!

  • what freak mom!

  • @lolitaseraph

she abselotely deserve to die. a painful death. She took more than half of sybils life!!! did she also 'helped' the neighbors 18 months old son when she fucked him? or when she putted icy whater in sybils bladder and make walk around with it? or when she putted a silver knife in sybils vagina? I understand why Sybil wished her dead

  • @ilsfort100 Please refer to my other comments... I understand why you would feel that way. If you're watching this movie for a psyche program, that's great! You will see a lot more stories like this one. Not all of them have such a happy ending. The unfortunate truth is that illness and suffering spreads... Sybil's mother was suffering, so others were suffering. The good news is that DID allowed Sybil to cope, and Dr.Wilbur helped her shed that shield when it was of no more use to her.

  • I saw this movie last year at health class and it was soo shocking and horrible to see her toruerd, abuse, and getting hurt. It made me so sad to see her like that and her evil family deserves to go to an asylem forever to be taught a lesson for abuse and harm, even her vile mother.

  • @narutokingdomhearts2 dude i had to watch this in health class too haah canyon?

  • awww, she's so cute...

  • Her mother is very random... At the end she looked like she would snap again.

  • Saw the movie and it was superb. I once thought it was too violent but it became a tour de force. The ending was great almost nothing but good entertainment from beginning to end.

  • The old lady, her "mom", is schitzophrenic. AKA she doesn't know what she's doing. And the "grandma" is the little girl's grandma but the mum also calls her that..

  • Grandma...?

Exactly how old is your grandma?

I though you were the grandma !

  • what a movie is that ... the poor child..

  • i think that her mom is sick too, she acts like a jealous little girl

  • god i cant believe she fell for the old classic trip down the stairs with a cookie trick, what a dumbshit.

  • I just finished reading this book last week. I feel so sorry that Sybil had to have such a horrible childhood. ):

  • She was a real girl. She never hurt anyone and she lived out her years very happy and healthy. Her name was Shirley Mason. Her artwork is beautiful.

  • Sybil should've gotten into pro wrestling

  • We watched this in Psychology last week. I am speechless. How could anyone do that to their child?

  • People who are saying they would 'kill the mother' are so retarded. The mother is ILL. Sybil didn't deserve to experience all that abuse, and it is sad that there was no one around to offer a way out (eg. her father's denial and passivity) but that doesn't mean the mother deserves to be abused either. She had no sense of reason, and in her delusions, her abuse was a way to HELP her daughter. She didn't have the clarity to understand otherwise. Grow up.

  • @lolitaseraph does the mother deserve to be killed? probably not. but she deserves to be locked up in an asylum where she can't hurt anyone anymore.

  • @lolitaseraph Well said!

  • @lolitaseraph But still sticking freezing cold water into the girls anus and uterus to the point where she couldn't have children is inexcusable. Illness or no illness

  • @o0PELON0o Yes, definitely agree there.. A huge part of schizophrenia is the paranoia. In the novel especially, it shows the mother sabotaging and hurting Sybil again and again, just because she was paranoid about the world out there. It's no excuse at all, only an explanation... Mental illness is what it is. Caretakers and family need to play the bigger role. If Sybil developed schizophrenia herself lets say, and became a threat, it would be up to others to intervene.

  • @o0PELON0o And again, it's natural that our first response would be horror, disgust and anger... I shouldn't have said people that want to kill the mother are retarded-- It's just a normal reaction. But the whole point of being blessed with a healthy mind is to use it in a rational, peaceful way where others (like Sybil's mother and Sybil herself) aren't able to. Dr.Wilbur would have never let Sybil throw herself off the building, because she understands that the mind is a powerful thing.

  • We actually watched this movie in parenting. I learned a lot about human beings from this movie!

    Poor little Sybil

  • I remeber when I was 8 years old my mom and I found some abandon videos up in the attick of the house we were living in there was Elephant Man, Goosebusters, Dog Day Afternoon and this one. This movie scared the hell out of me. gave me nightmares

  • her mother obviously had issues as well...

  • her mom looks retarded..lol

  • @wafaethel

Her mother was bipolar, had chronic depression and schizophrenia.

  • Comment removed

  • Looks more like her grandma than her mother. That little girl was in the original Amityville Horror movie.

  • Sybil had dissociative personality disorder, fragmented by childhood trauma. She ended up reintegrated at the end of the therapy, but she had been living as several people, with little awareness of her alternate personalities (even though they knew each other). Dissociative personality disorder is in the DSMIV, and is officially recognized by the APA. Don't BS people by saying it was disproven, because the debunkings were debunked once DPD was recognized.

  • If i met this motherfucka id beat the shit out of her and than let the girl finish her bitch ass

  • @ichiro2051 I WOULD DO THE SAME AND I WOULDNT EVEN KILL HER JUST BEAT HER ALOT EVERY TIME I WAS FINISHED SHE WOULD GET IT AGAIN EVEN IF SHE HAD SCITSOPHRANIA

  • yep, and theres people in todays world who beat their children worse than this.

  • If i where that little girl id be the one in charge and id be the one doin all the kicking

  • THIS MOM MUST DIE D : <

  • @DeathLee28 SHE IS DEAD NOW BUT SYBIL AKA SHIRLY DIED OF BREAST CANCER { TEAR DROPS AND SADDNESS } SHE DIDNT DESERVE TO DIE LIKE THAT

  • The facts behind why the mother did this stuff to sybil does nothing for me I dont care she still hurt her own sweet child and she never felt anything!

  • That child is an angel. How could anyone hurt her :(

  • That mother was fucked up! But hey, I guess that just means the actress who plays her did a pretty awesome performance.

  • @Tsugimoto1 It's a true story.

  • This movie could use some special effects and lasers to speed it up a bit.

  • this is soo crazyy!

  • Unfortunately there are thousands of children who are at the mercy of unstable and psycho parents. That makes me so incredibly sad. Ugh. How could you hurt a child like that?

  • That woman was disgusting and sick. How dare she treat her daughter like that! Makes me want to lock her up and throw away the key. The problem was that no one was willing to admit that she was a paranoid schizophrenic and get her help. Her daughter should have been taken away from her and placed in a safe home. :)

  • I want to hate this grandmother, but she's clearly not all there. This was also a time when disorders like bipolar, multiple personality, and schizophrenia were never addressed and those who suffered, like Sybil, were told to just sit down and be quiet about it all. I'm bipolar and the son of a borderline personality mother with bipolar as well. She abused me emotionally, but I still love her. I'm sure Sybil loved her grandma, but just kept the anger inside.

  • @dustinzev that's not her grandmother, that's her mother, her grandmother was a more elderly woman upstairs.

  • WHAT is this mother's problem? Why is she such an abusive bitch to Sybil (Putting this mildly)?

  • @Jibjub80 it's because the mother thinks what she's doing is right for Sybil, in her clearly unstable mind.

  • @dustinzev I think you're right. But geez! This mother truly IS unstable. I think I'd rather have a schizophrenic person be my parent than this woman. Thats how bad she is!

  • @Jibjub80 shes a cunt

  • @teddybear4422 Yeah, there's no denying that she's a cunt. My question is WHY is she such a cunt?!

  • @Jibjub80 cuz she mess up in the haed

  • This makes me cry. my mom used to get beat up by her mom and her dad didn't do a thing about it.

  • her mother i such an idiot

  • That lady was one sick, twisted f***!!! I'd have to kill her if I knew her. How the hell can someone treat a child like that?!?!?

  • @sreeser1979 : i agree!

  • @sreeser1979 ever see the whole movie? it gets worse... way worse

  • @opinionatediam seirously? whats this messed up movie called? what does else does she do? freaking molest her

  • @1448898 it's called Sybil, and it stars Sally Field. Full movie can be found on the steelmagnolia channel listed under my subscriptions. there is also a book, and this is based on actual events.

  • top 10 worst scene? I don't get that.

  • this woman is so insane!

I bet lots of them are out there

  • what movie was it?

  • this poor childs mother used to tie her upside down and spread her legs apart w a wooden spoon then fill an adult enema bag up with the coldest water she could get out of the sink then insert it into sybil's urethra, and empty it into her, all the while laughing. That is so horrible, I can't even imagine the pain that little girl suffered through. No wonder she developed dissociative identity disorder. Mother should be given a dose of her own medicine!

  • @terraschaller

why was this nut around and about when she should have been locked up!!!

  • dang, and to think i cant watch it because it makes me miss my step mom .huh. go figure

  • the mother was bi-polar but still...

  • This is a great movie! The reason the dialogue in this scene is so weird and unnatural is because the mother has a mental illness so she just says any random thing that come into her mind even if it makes no sense.

  • Really bad acting and script here ha.

  • mmmmmmmm cookies

  • The woman is really loonie... omg. damn

  • What a horrible woman! such a darling little girl! How did she get away with it?

  • this has to be one of the best movies ever made its just so emotional

  • That's by far the worst acting/script writing I've ever seen.

  • not all mothers love there kids

  • @mistamurphy07 so sad but true; a mother's mental illness can destroy all motherly instincts and love...hard to believe that could EVER happen, but it does...

  • Sybil's mom, Hattie, was a schizophrenic - there was a reason behind her madness.

  • i should just stick to chris kenner's sybil...

  • Creepy.

  • The mother must have been deranged, mentally ill. How else could someone do such horrible, tortuous things (like what ReviewCam said, holy shit!) to their own daughter. Appalling to know that such people actually can and do exist. Monstrous.

  • This scene is horrible, but there is a scene even worst than this that horrified me when I first saw the movie in the 70s. OMG, that scene where she ties her up and fills her bladder with water and then beats her for not being able to keep the water in. Monster!

  • I wonder how much of this story is true. I was always taught in college that multiple personality disorder was fake.

  • It's the saddest thing when the mom is like

" I TOLD YOU NO RUNING IN THE HOUSE"

And the little girls was like

    " I'm sorry"

Noing damn well she wasn't running

I want to just take her away with me :'(

  • im kinda freaked out to watch this movie...:S

  • so i watched this video in psychology and omg, i about cried, this is like the cutest child ever and shes treated like shit cuz the father believed his crazy wife that she was ok when she was totally messed up.

  • ARRRRRMAGEDDON

  • wtf....HAVE A NICE TRIP SEE YOU NEXT FALL!!!! that ruins it ...that just made me want to laugh and now i feel like a douche :(

  • Horrible nasty sick woman, on top of that, she is a preacher's wife. Jesus Christ!

    What in the hell....

    I thank to my mom.

  • horrible acting

  • This movie ripped-off the Alfred Hitchcock classic Psycho (1960)! Sybil's mother is made up just like Tony Perkins as he slinked-up behind Vera Miles when she was down in the fruit cellar looking for Mrs Bates!! Imitation is the sincerest form of plagery. Give the master his due!!!

  • I died a little when i read the book.

  • I hate Sybil mom. She reminds me of my mom exceept not to mah face.

  • How did the father marry this woman without seeing her mental condition?

  • @lilmissnisa Love is blind sometimes. That's like the chic who drowned her 5 kids one by one. The father knew she had a mental disorder and was suffering from post-partum depression and he ignored it. Did you see Shutter's Island? The guy knew his wife had problems but chose to ignore it and hide it with drinking. He came home one day and she drowned the kids in the lake. He killed her and couldn't handle the trauma so he created this whole different personality for himself.

  • that mom is a ass hole

  • i would've strangled that bitch or atleast hit her in the head with the cookie tray i mean i wouldn't care either one would be nice

  • THis child has went through HORRIFIC HELL and I read about all of these serial killers who blame their childhoods for the things that they do..." My mommy didn't pay any attention to me and my daddy was too strict" Sybil may have developed multiple personalities to help her get through the pain but she didn't grow up and turn into a serial killer

  • @MsLoveMe27 True--thats why I admire her, so SICK what her parents did to her--AND THATS THEIR OWN CHILD! I REALLY HOPE her parents or whoever treated her like that is in Hell!

  • @MsLoveMe27 you have to realize that different people deal with their childhood traumas in different ways whether they like it or not. some conform to serial killing, others multiple personalities, others give no self respect, etc

it all depends on what they experienced from when they were 1-5 years old according to Sigmund Freud the father of psychoanalysis

  • @MsLoveMe27 There are several ways one can develope psychosis. Genetic deffects, chemical embalances, and severe abuse are just a few. Everyone has a different level of mental strength. Some are high. Others are walking hair triggers and it doesn't take much to set them off. While I understand some kill for the joy of it, it's not fair to deminsh or demean the hurt and trauma those who develop serial killer tendencies have done through.

  • how can someone hurt thier child? i understand she had mental issues, but this makes me sick to my stomach.

  • @Mcpanicfanic me and my mom atched this and i am so thankful we love each other and we think she should have gotten killed if i had a time machince i would hurt that lady SO BADLY even if she is schitsophranic i dont care

  • @Mcpanicfanic me to

  • She had Dissicociative Identity disorder, it's a little different, but yeah.

  • WOW that woman is beyong tutti frutti! crazy woo hoo!

  • This woman was creepy! Martine bartlett played a teacher in Natalie Woods Splendor In The Grass. I think she died of cancer in 1993? natasha Ryan who played Sybil as a child grew up in a foster home, she left at age fifteen according to a internet source, lived on the streets, and became a single mother to a daughter named Sienna and now lives in a cabin in the mountains without running water or electricity. She was such a pretty child.

  • the movie is about a girl with multiple-personality disorder... i wonder why

  • I dont get it. The mom trips her, then gives her a cookie?! Then she hits and kicks her, then gives her a candy cane!?!

    o_O

  • @spotdathief

This is a very funny scene cause it happened to me. Now I cuddle with my sister every night cause I'm scared. Brothers and sister are supposed to cuddle and take baths together right. i'm 32

  • @sharpiee2010baby ALSO GO TO DOODOO TOGETHER NIGGA

  • This reminds me of an Elementary School teacher from the era of corporal punishment. Yes, they are still out there except now they are principles and superintendants. If anyone struck my child for any reason, whatsoever, the law would be the least of their worries...

  • 2:55-2:56 sounds like an angry stressed out elementary teacher yelling at her kids.

  • If your talking about Sybil, she was actually locked in the warehouse under the floorboards

  • How cruel. When she said "Momma" I felt like grabbing her out of the screen and hugging her. (: I feel bad for that girl, I could never imagine hurting any little kid. But you know the creepy mom had a mental problem....It shows.

  • The mother was a schizophrenic

The book explains a lot,and is a really good read.

  • Yeah, she had schizophrenia. And this is a true story.

  • She develops multiple personality disorder, which is different from schizophrenia.

  • have they never heard of oven mitts?

  • Well....Melanie Safka proved that even Sybil can find something to sing about rite?

  • that woman is burning in hell - clitterdick

  • I am sorry but I can't even watch this movie because it makes me so F***ING angry what that disgusting bitch did to her. I wanna F***ING kill ****. That's why I can't watch this movie ever again.

  • They diagnosed her mom with schizophrenia but I think she had Dissociative Identity Dissorder too.

  • I don't think so. From the book, it seemed she was schizophrenic. She didn't show any signs of DID.

  • @Lexxiii999 the mother died a horribly painful death...ovarian cancer

  • It's sad and true because this is real, she had suffered so much abuse she eventually developed and died with 16 different personalities. It was probably worse with Truddi Chase : /, I'll let you research it but she had around 92 different personalities...

  • @Lexxiii999 I hear you. I was required to watch this film in a high school Health Education class (the teacher was a bit wacky). Sometimes I would need to view films more than once to synthesize the events. My mother would not watch this film with me, because she thought it would make HER too upset. It is disturbing to see that this mother was such an awful person.

  • @Lexxiii999 Well if it makes you feel any better, it was proven to be false and a result of her therapist's suggestion during hypnosis. This occurs often, which is why hypnosis and repressed memory therapy are considered fringe theories by the vast majority of psychologists and psychiatrists.

  • man that is some fucking bullshit, hitting an sweet innocent child like that, its really sad to know that shit happens everyday

  • hahahaha!

  • i'm watching this movie in my psychology class now. i feel like crying when i watch this! i have to hold back the tears. I don't understand though how no one every suspected that something was wrong. I would have done to her mother exactly what she did to Sybil.

  • Sybil's mother was a bitch if that's how she really was in real life! That poor kid!

  • OMG,how horrible!!!!!!!!!

  • I watched this film last night and it breaks my heart that any child has to go through such horrors, Why are people allowed to get away with this, because no one can say this only happened in the olden days, when you've only have to pick a paper up today and read such stories like baby p's, breaks my heart.

  • Her mother was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, but her father was super religious and did not believe the doctors. So it's his fault all of this happened to her. You never see him in the movie while she is a young girl, so he wasn't really around to protect her like he should have been.

  • well shes diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia shes not dumb. she wouldn't do anything to Sybil while the dad is around

  • Leonard Rosenman's brilliance will truly be missed. With the passing of so many incredible film scorers like Jerry Goldsmith, your great uncle and others....the era of great movie and television music is slowly fading to black.

His main theme for the movie "East of Eden" is one of the most memorable ever to come out of Hollywood and his Emmy award winning music for "Sybil" is absolutely heartbreaking.

And what are we left with? Absolute crap from talentless hacks like Clint Mansell.

  • Leonard Rosenman? Leonard Rosenman? I remember Paul Newman on the set. Where was Leo? Estelle Parsons/Elizabeth Quinn/ Pier Angelina was the producer which rules out Leo. Leo? Was he the camera man? I don't think so. He didn't write neither the book nor the script. Sybil Jason wrote the biography of time spent with a so called adoptive mother...one of about a dozen adoptive parents. Leo? Don't remember him. Sorry

  • Well I always had the suspicion that movies such as "Sybil" would attract the comments of the bi-polar,borderline, personality disordered crowd....thanks for confirming it.

  • omfg so scary

  • that women is fucking crazy.

  • we watch this in my psychology class when we were studying chemical imbalances in the brain that makes you think you have multiple personalities also called skitzofrenia i like cried through this entire movie!!!

  • Schizophrenia and dissociative identity disorder (multiple personality disorder) are two different things. Do not confuse the two. If you're unsure which is which, look it up. Unfortunately many people make this mistake without realizing it.

  • Schizophrenia and Multiple Personality Disorder are different things. Schizophrenics often suffer from auditory hallucinations, but they do not have completely separate personalities like those with MPD do.

  • @TayeCRhodes

It's not schizophrenia, that's hallucinations and massive mood swings. Dissociative Identity Disorder (I think also called multiple personality disorder) is different from that.

  • hahaha what the helL!??!

  • I cried and died a little when I saw this scene

  • Comment removed

  • crazy bitch

  • What the hell is this? is this a US show or film or something, never seen it before....

  • Yes, it's a made for tv movie from the 70's about a woman dealing with the trauma of abuse at the hands of her profoundly mentally ill mother. Caused quite a buzz when it was aired.

  • she has 16 different personalities!

  • @miniaturecaff It's Sybil, a 1976 mini series that established Sally Field as a world class actor.

Sally won an Emmy for this role & in 1979 won her first Oscar for

"Norma Rae" & her second Oscar for "Places in the Heart."

  • Oh shit its mommy dearest

  • sybil's mother is crazy.............

    poor girl

  • sybils mother is...well sybil

  • yeah really disturbing

  • her mother SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • why dose she do these things to her daughter????

  • No wonder Sybil need an Alters to cope, her mom is fucking crazy!!!!!!!!!!!! Poor Sybil.

  • Remember the human wastes names' then take revenge when ice cold. No one will connect you with the turd. Then you get away with it and the authorities are none the wiser. Usually no one cares about them and they get what they deserve. Time is the ultimate avenger. Just wait, noone can look over their shoulder forever, they'll slip and you'll be there. This is highly effective against those who would abuse children, women, and animals. Justice is exacted nice and cold.

  • /\ Pure poetry

    I

    I

    I

    I

  • List. Verse. Fucking. RULES!

  • its cute how she says mama

  • this movie was sooooooooooo sad but soooooooo good. and i totally wanted to like kill sybil's mother!

  • it's even worse, when you know your mother has gone evil, manipulation, setomas, lies, you know I'm glad she was nice when I was kid, not when i'm in my 20's. PTSD, derealization from not believing who you know has changed, cruel.

  • I've never seen anyone that excited to trip a child in my life!

Notice that she gets all toungy right before she trips the girl.
