  • This was the best game ever in college football until the Boise State-Oklahoma Fiesta Bowl. Northwestern was in the 3rd best game, too: It's loss to Auburn last year in the Outback Bowl.

  • This was the best game ever in college football until the Boise State-Oklahoma Fiesta Bowl.

  • It's not crazy to say this IS the greatest college football game ever played. True, it wasn't for a championship but (i) it was a packed house and nationally televised, (ii) it had a perennial cinderella against a perennial power, (iii) the emotional and scoreboard swings were endless, (iv) there was a twist at the end when you were sure Michigan had won after Damien's drop, and (v) the game changed college football by launching the spread offense. Oh, and the final score was 54-51!

  • Someone should seriously upload the game's highlights (from BOTH teams).

  • What happenned to the NU offense after that season?

  • the scored more points than some of the BIG 10 teams do in basketball!

  • This game is the reason that I fell in love with college football. It's certainly the best game I've ever seen played live, and the best Big Ten game I've heard of in modern history.

  • I feel like I'm a member of a special group that understands how incredible this game was; that it may be the greatest college football game of all time. Don't tell anyone.

  • The Penn State Nittany Lions are instilled into my heart and soul, and even I will admit that this is the greatest game in Big Ten history.

Ohio State/Michigan in 2006? Please. That game couldn't hold a candle to this.

  • @gi11ett

I'm a diehard Florida Gator fan, born and bred, and I've seen many great games Florida's played in the last decade that were truly legendary. However I remember the 2000 NW vs. UM game like it was yesterday and ESPECIALLY the final minute of the game where Anderson got redemption after the drop in the end zone. STILL one of the greatest games I've ever seen!

  • I was there and I bet with theses drunk people and the bet was that if NU was winning by halftime that they would get us what ever we wanted to eat and then the next was if NU won they would buy us anything from the merchandise place and They did so I got the coolest socks ever!

  • THIS was the best hame I have ever seen, barely ahead of the ND-USC game from 05.

  • This is the game that got me into college football

  • This game was a roller coaster ride (emotionally). My son, who was 2 yrs old at the time gave me a strange look when I was jumping and cheering at the end. Great game.

  • this is a great game, i'm a michigan fan. too bad we lost, our offense was on fire that day too.

  • I am a Florida Gator fan and I remember this game like it was yesterday. This was one of the greatest f'ing games of all time! I need to catch it on ESPN Classic some day.

  • I'm trying to get the full version of this game. When I get it, I will let you know!

  • That was one of the best games I've ever watched. Zak Kustok and Damien Anderson were one hell of a duo.

  • What happenned to NW's offense after 2000?

  • not only was i there to witness this amazing game! but zak kustok (northwestern's qb) is my cousin!

  • kobraf150 (1 week ago) Show Hide 0 Marked as spam Reply | Spam So Michigan scored 51 points in this game. Where the hell are they? Talk about biased, you are FOX news and Northwestern is Bush in this case.

Are you dense? look who posted the video - NUBears

And by the way after a combined 1,000+ yards of offense showing all the highlights would have taken about an hour.

  • So Michigan scored 51 points in this game. Where the hell are they? Talk about biased, you are FOX news and Northwestern is Bush in this case.

  • shouldve shown damien anderson's 4th-down dropped pass right before the fumble. of course, he redeemed himself in the last TD

  • my bad. there's the dropped pass. amazing game.

  • This game is why football - especially college - is perfect.

  • When people list the best games of this decade, I always think that this game deserves to be up there. As a purdue fan I would like to thank Northwestern for giving us an opening to end up going to the rose bowl that year. But as a college football fan I would like to thank both teams for giving me three hours watching one of the greatest games ever played.

  • If I recall, this one ran a bit longer than three hours. I believe it was like 5:30 MST when this one ended (after a 1:30 kickoff).

It was arguably the greatest game I've ever seen, and I'm a Nittany Lion fan.

Definitely should be rated amongst the greatest Big Ten games ever, if not THE absolute apex of football in the Big Ten.

  • go nu

  • The ABC college football theme that you hear at the end of this video...ive been looking for the full version of that song for a LONG time...anyone has it or knows where to get it? Go 'Cats!

  • The only reason NU didn't go to the Rose Bowl is because they went to the Rose Bowl in 1996. In the event of a tiebreak, whoever has gone the longest without a Rose bowl appearance gets to go. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • You're wrong.

Purdue/NW and Michigan finished in a three way tie for the Big 10 that year; since Purdue beat both Michigan and NW, Purdue went to the Rose Bowl

  • northwestern got blown out in the alamo bowl

  • yo momma got blowed out in bed last night hahahahah. jkjk i had to say it.... ik i was sooo sad when they were blew out

  • NU didn't win every B10 game that year and they didn't go to the Rose Bowl. They lost one, at Iowa, and went to the Alamo Bowl.

However, that NU team was probably the most exciting college football team I have EVER seen and I have some great memories from watching them in Evanston this year.

Now with Pat Fitzgerald, the future looks VERY bright. Go Cats!

  • Requiem,

How did the Bucks do that year? They lost a game right? We'll never know what woulda happened. They won EVERY Big10 game, I think that makes them deserving of going to the Rosebowl!

  • Lear,

If they were not the better team, how come they won? Also, how come they finished 8-0 in B10 play that year and went to the Rosebowl. The Cat's were the better team, end of story. I love the sorry grapes from these over zealous scUM fans all the time!!

  • "Also, how come they finished 8-0 in B10 play that year and went to the Rosebowl. "

Because they didn't play Ohio St.

  • There are games, there are great games, and then there is *this* game. It was a triumph of college football and the short version is nice, but doesn't do it justice. So many great plays, a back-and-forth pitched battle, it's a shame either team had to lose. Kind of like the great Duke-Kentucky matchup in the NCAA basketball tournament years ago, except this is college football and, hence, that much better.

  • michigan loses. again. go bucks.

  • They weren't a better team, they just played better on that day. Kudos to the 'Cats

  • the cats got you because they were the better team, end of story.

  • i cried on thsi day....drew henson was awesome....go blue...but the kats got us that day cuz of the fumble

  • Amazing!!! My dad took me to that game. I was like 13 at the time, but I still remember it like it was yesterday. Security kept trying to keep people from storming the field, but failed miserably. But they still chased them when they thought they had a shot. What an incredible game.

  • the best game in college football history. go cats!!!
