  • This clip is so amazing.. Great to see jeffrey lee in his early years! Hhahaha how smaked out is he tho in this video? hahaha fucking awesome!

  • And to the idiot who said Ian Curtis is better - go fucking die

  • So this is from New Wave Theatre? Is this the only clip? Please tell me there's more! Does anyone know if there's any more footage of this line up?

  • I don`t have a clue..

  • @heklngjekl yes i've read somewhere that there is an entire set played by the gun club at the new wave theatre. if the rest is like this, well it could be one of the greatest performance of all time

  • ol jeff lee, what a front man, hypnotizing.....posessing...

  • Miss them.

  • Would love to see the whole show!

  • Ohhh JEFFREY I MISS YOU!!! GREAT SINGER!

  • the great jeffry lee

  • honest rock and roll

  • Looks like Corey Feldman in "The Lost Boys."

  • Is this the earliest G.C. vid on youtube? and the only one w the original line-up? surely there's more footage out there!?

  • Lady Gaga 222,416,947 views, Jeffrey Lee Pierce 48,226... i'm so proud to listen to you my friend, we are few but we know you are a God.

R.I.P. Robert Johnson, Jeffrey Lee Pierce and the Devil.... I love you.

  • Check out the proto gothy chicks in the audience.

  • @exeuroweenie Looks like Texacala to me, from Tex and the Horseheads.

  • @madmotoscooter Any idea what happened to her? Loved her Lucky Strike unfiltered voice and that song "Oh Mother".

  • Rob Ritter was criminally underrated. What a bassist!

  • @markeesmith

Yes, and amazing to see him (Rob) playing again. I agree, he was so good, and criminally underrated, at least by history (he was adored by all who knew him - what a sweet gentle soul).

  • Where was I?

  • Invention was betrayed by the machine...

  • Jeffrey looks like Maradonna in this video.

  • NO f... WAY!

  • The tag say's Kid Congo Powers, but that is Ward Dotson on guitar.

  • yup, that IS Ward Dotson.

    i want some Liquor Giants!

  • awesome singing! it differs beautifully from the original

  • I love how the Gun Club are labeled a thousand times over. Punk-blues! Deathrock! Garage! Gothic! In reality, they don't sound like The White Stripes, or 45 Grave, or The Cramps, or Bauhaus. Jeffrey had his own sound, from the early "tribal" days to the more blues-laden last albums.

On the topic of goths and history, its just a damn shame Christian Death isn't a household name. Those boys should be equaled with Bauhaus by now. Rozz's era of course. Some of the smartest music ever . . .

  • Right on! I'm surprised by the number of people I've run into who love the Only Theatre of Pain record. I always thought no one remembered it. Kudos to you for giving CD and Rozz props.

  • Los Angeles baby!

    From my diamond eyes.

  • Yeah, gorgeous Jeffrey!

  • fucking cool to see rob playing in the gun club for once

  • I CAN SEE CREALY!

  • with my diamond eyes

  • Brilliant. Wish the quality was a bit better, although it does add to the nostalgia. Great stuff Stago

  • congratulations. today this video was selected by the NYC Punk Rock Evolution Foundation. way to go. one of our favorite bands ever!!!!

  • One of the coolest Gun Club clips on YT. Brilliant early goths in the audience.

I love it that people quote JLP's lyrics on these threads. They so totally deserve to be quoted.

  • You're from UK, yeah? Funny I was just telling someone how I never heard the word "goth" in the '80's. "Death Rockers," it was, in my circle of Bad America.

  • Interesting that, bll. Yeah, I'm from the UK and there were always goths, from as early as I was going to gigs, starting around '82. There was a whole club for them in London, the Batcave, and then there were usually goth support bands, total loser groups you just knew weren't going anywhere. It looked like a movement with no traction and little imagination and I never imagined goths would still be around even ten years later.

  • Right, well in any scene there always seems to be one good group for every hundred or two going through the motions. As for goth, to each his own. . . but why didn't the "burundi sound" last? Indians! Ants and pirates for The Kids!

  • In some parallel universe, that's what made it. Marilyn Manson is called Indign Ant, wears cloaks and swashbuckler boots and has two drummers. Goth is a forgotten footnote of pop history.

  • I was just thinking the same thing. It was called the new wave here in Europe. I recall the term gothic only appeared like in the 90's.

  • Um, no

  • Speechless, this is damn good, Stag any more golden gems in the arsenal ? One of my all time favorites bands ...

  • god love club is so wonderfull

  • AGH! It cut off just a few seconds short! Nooooo! This was too great a clip. shit.

wish there was a dvd release of the best of New Wave Theatre; or early Gun Club...oh well.

  • Goddamn I miss this band! Sound better than memory even! Thanks Stag

  • invention was betrayed by the machine

  • promised like it was promised to me...

  • I'm going up to the mountain to see

how the last thing, will set them free, yeah...

  • One of the best shows ever at 688 Atlanta

  • So great to see Gun Club live on!!

  • yeah Rob!

  • The best line up of all right here!! Cathey, Whiskey, Club 88, Skeleton Club...etc....! Awesome!!!

  • rob graves cool on bass

  • at an afterhours jam at small's k.o. in la one night, jeffrey walked in with keith m of circle jerks. he sang hank williams' ramblin man with us. just awesome.

  • This is PRICELESS!!

  • Thank you Jeffrey Lee.

And thanks to Peter Ivers for giving artists like the Gun Club a platform.

  • I played a support slot for them twice, at the Paradiso in Amsterdam (with patricia on bass) and I think in Utrecht.

Pretty intimidating, but not unfriendly people - especially Patricia, who wanted to know how old my Rickenbacker bass was!

  • In which bands you played?are you dutch?Do you know the band God from Holland? They was amazing....

  • That's correct: Dutch! I was in a moderately successful, relatively short-lived band named Paradogs (and after that more succesfully rocking out in the Ace-Tones, Link Wray Band, and more).

Very funny that you should mention that band God. Paradogs had a promo photo made of all four guys in the nude, and when we were looking at the contact sheets, God had done just the same thing - and they got published first. They didn't know about our photo, we didn't know about theirs!

  • seen them once ,

    a concert in the effenaar,eindhoven.

    unforgettable.

    thx for this

  • lOU REED TAUGHT ME ABOUT LIFE JLP TAUGHT

    ME THE BLUES

  • One of the sexiest songs ever!

  • i have take internet juste to catch some of old lyrics from the gun club ^^

  • Well, to each his own.

  • well i can see how some people consider this man their favorite he has this something about him .. GREAt voice and so powerful

  • Strange choice of words, though Ian Curtis would have appreciated it I'm sure.

  • He may not be as great as Ian Curtis but how is that relevant to anything?

  • @alansready This band has NOTHING to do with joy division ,man.

  • I love this song and this group when did they dend therir music?? and is anyone here dead??

  • jeffrey lee pierce was the band died in slc cerebral hemorrhage.supposedly hiv +.ROBGRAVES ROB RITTER ALSO DEAD FROM BAND VERSION THAT RECORDED THIS SONG

  • was he gay or was he transgender??? Jeff that is?? thx for thw answer by the way

  • You would think so, wouldn`t you. But I believe he wasn`t. Although there were a lot of gay references in his lyrics.

  • THX FOR THE ANSWER. i DONT LIKE COUNTRY AND THE BLUES BASICALLY BUT I JUST LOVE THIS GUY. THIS IS SUCH GREAT MUSIC. . i ONLY GOT ON OF HIS ALBUMS 20 YEARS AGO. DOES HE HAVE A COMPLILATION OF HIS BEST SONGS IN CD VERSION ??

  • Try 'In Exile'. Although you should buy all the re-issues that came out recently.

  • @alansready - He was a purveyor of that hoary old clicke, the rockstar-dude into Asian chicks...

  • still the best

  • This band created the greatest music I have ever had the fortunate of hearing in my 21 years on this planet, I hear the word "underrated" thrown around a lot in reference to them.... let me just say if there was 20ft high golden statues of Jeffrey Lee Pierce in every major city in the world, i'd be posting here arguing they should be 50ft and that they got his eye's wrong.... the man was one of few truely worthy of the overused tag of GENIUS.

  • long live the gun club
