@ugonhurchobak Your question WAS "what was denotative meaning ?" @ReassuringSmile Just curious, my question is/was what is your foundation in stating what you did. Well this is the problem, those kinds of plots ruin a good movie, where a girl from one religion falls in love with a man from another religion. We've seen enough of this in b-wood movies. The movie should have been about the death and killing and everyone should have been blamed for it not just one group. Maybe tap into the psychology of why humans do such acts, in a group mentality etc, what inspires them etc. The whole love scene does nothing for the movie, other then making it unrealistic.
you guys are a bunch of poor losers...come out of it...u should be thankful u did not get to see the partition...then all of ur hinduness and muslimness will have vapourised into thin air...All of those who participated in riots during partition , after and even now are empty brained dogs who have no right to live...Dont u have any thing else to do? Humans were better off before religion occured...
I found that the story, written by Sarin, does not point a finger of blame on either side, simply comments on the the death and suffering that 'religion' has brought to the world since the beginning of mankind. still didnt see the movie watch at BigOnlineMovies . c o m
The pathetic part of the partition is India still has more Muslims, for whom the country was divided into two. one for Muslims and the other for Hindus.
Yeah it sucks. Muslims are like 13% of Indian population right now. But, Muslims are further divided on regional basis like we have marathi muslims and so on. It was really difficult to get each and every muslim from India over to pakistan It was only possible for jammu kashmir Muslim and so on close to the border and with Muslim majority regions..
Aside from the religious divisions there are cultural differences heavily. Which leads me to think the creation of Pakistan was dumb. My grandparents moved from India Punjab to Pakistan Punjab, Now that I live in Canada I see that my people have more in common with Sikh Punjabis rather than Pakistani non Punjabi Muslims
Muslims are better of in Pakistan then in India. Before partition most of punjabi Muslims were poor peasants and were exploited by these extremist sikhs and hindus who use to own much of the property. Muslims were majority yet most properties were own mostly by non-muslims. Atleast Pakistani Muslims are free and their destiny is not controlled by a hindu majority.
Ask the Muslims who have remained in Indian Punjab and you would see they are poor marginalized people.
Punjabi Muslims poor peasants? Punjabi Muslims are the same as Punjabi Sikhs or Hindus, just different religion. Punjab has always been majority Muslim since the 1200s
for example, Im a Jatt and there is Jatts of the same family clan as me that are Sikh, same goes for other high classes like Khatris and Rajputs
Dont act like you know a single shred of Punjabi history you idiot.
Muslims in Punjab and bengal were generally poor and uneducated. Lahore was a mostly Muslim city yet most of the property of Lahore was owned by hindus before parition.
The british were generally against Muslims and prefered hindus and sikhs in government jobs etc. There was a systematic british attempt to weaken Muslims who wanted to revive mughal empire under bahadur shah zafar.
these sikhs were the biggest lap dogs of the british, hence alot of them served in british army
Im a Jatt and Rajput, two of the highest tribes of India and Pakistan, the majority of Pakistan Punjabi is Jatt, Rajput, Khatri, Gujjar, Arain, all tribes which are dominant in all areas of history and present day. You must be from Karachi where people have no tribal identity or culture, just chew pan and ride rick shaws, 4 foot tall dark skinned bhaiyas
You sound like either a Karachi Mohajir or a Gujarati Hindu...Honestly there is no real difference between the two
why doent u be more under standing (kylejones7) the guy saved her life and he treated her good and u say she should get beat up, cuz she saved her life by living with a guy omg what u whant her living in the forest and sacrifise till she dies i feel so sorry for u, im a muslim and if that was my daughter or who ever i would thank that guy for the rest of my life.... i wish people like u r more educated.
You probaly aren't a good muslim either. do't be talking about krsiten Kruek she an amazing actress and you should try to live up to who she was in the movie.
you are clearly retarded. I was merely being sarcastic. Kristen Kreuk is not a muslim, and neither am I. I was implying that her character is a bad muslim because.........read the rest.
I like movies that don't look at the political aspects of the partition of India but the affect of partition on it's normal people be they are Muslim, Hindu or Sikh.
if u guys are talking about Kristin Laura Kreuk , Her father, Peter Kreuk, is of Dutch descent; her mother, Deanna Che, is of Chinese descent, but was born in Indonesia; her maternal grandmother was born in Jamaica of Chinese descent.
the reason she has green eyes and looks almost white is because she's actually more like 60-65% white.she's not really half because you have to also count her great grandma being white, her grandma being white/half chinese and mother being 1/4 white aswell even though she looks really chinese.
the actor is also a mix race british/pakistani.without the beard he could somehwhat past for an hispanic too.
yes she is ..i loved her in smallville..although i don't know why people hated her so much in smallville....she is so pretty :)..i'm gonna try and find this movie.
A PEACEFUL WORLD? Bullshit! The English are the greatest mass murders in history. There will never be peace until that shitty little island is sunk, after of course first recovering all the stuff they stole from around the world.
@velvetfog Enough blame to go around I'd say--Yes the Brits were an arrogant bunch of SOBs' back in the day, but let's not forget the the Greeks (Alexander), Muslim conquests (of Europe,Asia, and India) the Americans (Nixon,etc.,etc.) the French (Napoleon), The Russians ( Stalin, etc.) , the Chinese (Mao,etc.) the Germans (Hitler), Serbia (Meolosovic), and last but by no means least the Roman Catholic Church (the Crusades and the Inquisition)--that's just the short list.
I found this movie to be romantic and bittersweet, but beautiful in every way. "Partition" is a tremendously moving and awe-inspiring story of love that sees no boundaries. Just as Naseem had said, "Let them see who their enemy is," I have learned immensely from this film, and this film has showed me that love can blossom in a time of hatred.
The sikhs lost half their population because of partition. it wasnt just muslims killing sikh and sikhs killing muslims. it was the sikhs who stayed in pakistan and converted because they chose there land over their faith and people. Muslims in india never had to convert.
Pakistani I don't think so. your facial/skull structure is no where relative to a Pakistani. If she was a Korean instead of Chinese she would have a better chance of looking Pakistani.
she doesnt have pakistani blood.. but yea her looks can pass off more as pakistani, she actually doesnt look too different, i know a lot of people in pakistan that look like her, and i have a lot of family that does too
Gaddar copied Shaheed-E-Mohabbat (punjabi movie) n basically blew the story out of proportion to fit into the masala bollywood genre. Watch the Shaheed-E-Mohabbat, its a really good movie and much more realistic. From wut I hear its actually based on a true story
I haven't seen this film, and I'm sure it's great, and this is by no means meant to be an insult against Kreuk who probably does a great job, but it's a shame they didn't cast an Indian/Pakistani actress for the role. There's so few roles already out their for South Asian actors, and the ones that are available are being given to people that don't really look the part.
i guess i agree there but i think it's probably because they wanted publicity...but also casting a complete newbie (culture-wise) is a bold and interesting thing to do...it helps for non-asians to relate to kristins character better because they may consider the amount of research she put into her character...i think its pretty inspiring...:D
was this movie a flop or sucess? and i think its great that their trying to make peace between indians and pakistani's even if its just a movie. i think its stupid how there are so many movies made with pakistani pun's and criticism and vice versa. all this hate needs to stop for crying out loud we're next door neighbors. we should be the best of friends
this is a total copy off of a bollywood film called '1947.' a muslim girl gets parted from her family during partition and a former classmate of hers who is sikh finds her and saves her, protecting her from those who want to kill her bc she's a muslim. they end up falling in love, gettng married and having kids.
why is it a movie like this, whether its bolly/hollywood that its always a Muslim women and a Hindu/Sikh man? why not the other way round? Is it difficult to portray a Muslim man as an honorable, dignified human, who rescues or falls in love with a Hindu/Sikh women?. Secondly they never seem to show a Hindu women rebelling against her parents wishes to be with a Muslim man, seems to me they wish to portray Muslim women are led easily astray by hindu/sikh man, but yet their women are honorable.
Well, this story is a real life story, with real life characters bearing different names. And I guess, love and life is far higher than our man made castes and religions. Hunderds of Sikhs and Muslim boys and girls might have faced the same fate. They might have fallen in love and rebelled. The thing is that being a Sikh or a Muslim means to honour this love, and not to bring forward issues like how come boy a Sikh/Muslim or girl a Muslim/Sikh...
Well for one, this movie is based on Shaheed-E-Mohabbat which was a real story. Another thing is "izzat" is generally attached to women in the south asian culture and thats y u hardly ever see a muslim man n a hindu woman in hindi movies. I watched a really bad pakistani movie "Ladki Punjaban" n that had a muslim man and a sikh girl pair. So it works both ways depending upon the majority the film is trying to appeal to.
If u watch quality movies with a good storyline, these things do not occur. I wanna give Pinjar as an example. Rashid kidnapped a hindu girl but u find out the hindus started it by kidnapping his aunt in the past and the entire movies goes back n forth showing good and bad sides of both. It wasn't the religion it was the ppl n the culture. That movie does not try to demonize 1 or the other.
Unfortunately commercialized films have to appeal to the majority where as independent and art movies don't and I enjoy those because they focus on the raw truth n explore. So if u want to watch a unbiased movie, pick something that isn't there to entertain the mass.
There I m done my rant :P n I know I replying to a really old post but I thought I'd share something :)
Just to add I found out Pakistan made a movie called "Kartar Singh" in 1959 which is the same story. Chek it out. No idea how it is but I will definitely give it a go. If any1 has any idea of "Boota Singh's " memorial ( I heard there is 1 in pakistan) please post.
This movie was so sad but wonderful at the same time! The story between Jimmy and Kristen was obviously amazing, but I really like Neve Campbell's character as well. She really loved him, and even took care of his wife and child.
This film has similar taglines from the hindi movie Gadar which relesased in 2001. Gadar was based on a true story therefore I think that this movie too is based on that true story.
I just searched for that movie "Gadar" and that movie was the worse movie I have ever seen.. yea probably based 50% on true story and 50% indian hate to pakistan..
"Gadar" is a typical stupid indian movie. yes of course against the pakistanis!!
Its amazing how Kristin became the pakistani girl, I mean she acted it really well and i totally forgot that she was western she looked asian somehow. And for those who think Sikhs are bad or Muslims are bad, u dont really know wat happened after partition. There was a vicious cycle of hatred where many innocent ppl from both sides were killed. Sometimes we cant blame anyone this was one such situation.
I kind of blame england! read your own country's history (all the countries england occupied) and if England hadn't been in india and pakistan for 350 years then maybe things would have been better.. even after the partition.. Kashmeer belongs to pakistan, and they're muslims.. but being killed by non-muslim indians! STILL TODAY. AND WE'RE IN 2008!
Check out my rendition of Partition!

CallMeDaddyHoe 2 years ago 2
if u guys are talking about Kristin Laura Kreuk , Her father, Peter Kreuk, is of Dutch descent; her mother, Deanna Che, is of Chinese descent, but was born in Indonesia; her maternal grandmother was born in Jamaica of Chinese descent.
:o)

Anyway this movie was good really sad and depressive. This is a lesson for people, learn to promote peace and love.
heroesofpeace 2 years ago
the reason she has green eyes and looks almost white is because she's actually more like 60-65% white.she's not really half because you have to also count her great grandma being white, her grandma being white/half chinese and mother being 1/4 white aswell even though she looks really chinese.
the actor is also a mix race british/pakistani.without the beard he could somehwhat past for an hispanic too.

A PEACEFUL WORLD? Bullshit! The English are the greatest mass murders in history. There will never be peace until that shitty little island is sunk, after of course first recovering all the stuff they stole from around the world.
velvetfog 2 years ago 15

@velvetfog well that doesn't sound like the warrior cry of a mass murderer...

THIS IS A STORY OF A PEDOPHILE!!
lazybone74 2 years ago
The sikhs lost half their population because of partition. it wasnt just muslims killing sikh and sikhs killing muslims. it was the sikhs who stayed in pakistan and converted because they chose there land over their faith and people. Muslims in india never had to convert.

i really love kristin but why didn't they cast an indian girl for the part ?!
bollytash 2 years ago 13
actually pakistani, not indian...
she has pakistani blood in her...and looks like a pakistani girl.
baigette 2 years ago
really? i read that she was part chinese. either way, she is lovely.
SpiritedxAway 2 years ago
actually shes half dutch, half chinese, born in vancouver
haha but she could pass off a role as an asian, white, and pakistani...which is pretty cool
pinaypower94 2 years ago
Pakistani I don't think so. your facial/skull structure is no where relative to a Pakistani. If she was a Korean instead of Chinese she would have a better chance of looking Pakistani.
whatupchica 2 years ago
Why that? Since as far as I know most koreans have strong mogolid features whereas especially souther and western chinese can look oriental.
But Kreuk looks like somewhere around the silkroad to me here...doesn't matter shes pretty! :)

well she played pakistani in here...and i think she did pretty damn good
but thats just my opinion

this is an axact copy of the indian film gaddar starring sunny deol!
hshabs 3 years ago
Gaddar copied Shaheed-E-Mohabbat (punjabi movie) n basically blew the story out of proportion to fit into the masala bollywood genre. Watch the Shaheed-E-Mohabbat, its a really good movie and much more realistic. From wut I hear its actually based on a true story
nworb 2 years ago
I haven't seen this film, and I'm sure it's great, and this is by no means meant to be an insult against Kreuk who probably does a great job, but it's a shame they didn't cast an Indian/Pakistani actress for the role. There's so few roles already out their for South Asian actors, and the ones that are available are being given to people that don't really look the part.
bullzman23 3 years ago 5
i guess i agree there but i think it's probably because they wanted publicity...but also casting a complete newbie (culture-wise) is a bold and interesting thing to do...it helps for non-asians to relate to kristins character better because they may consider the amount of research she put into her character...i think its pretty inspiring...:D
peace

this is a total copy off of a bollywood film called '1947.' a muslim girl gets parted from her family during partition and a former classmate of hers who is sikh finds her and saves her, protecting her from those who want to kill her bc she's a muslim. they end up falling in love, gettng married and having kids.
yea, this movie's a total ripoff.

why is it a movie like this, whether its bolly/hollywood that its always a Muslim women and a Hindu/Sikh man? why not the other way round? Is it difficult to portray a Muslim man as an honorable, dignified human, who rescues or falls in love with a Hindu/Sikh women?. Secondly they never seem to show a Hindu women rebelling against her parents wishes to be with a Muslim man, seems to me they wish to portray Muslim women are led easily astray by hindu/sikh man, but yet their women are honorable.
haraampilla 3 years ago
Well, this story is a real life story, with real life characters bearing different names. And I guess, love and life is far higher than our man made castes and religions. Hunderds of Sikhs and Muslim boys and girls might have faced the same fate. They might have fallen in love and rebelled. The thing is that being a Sikh or a Muslim means to honour this love, and not to bring forward issues like how come boy a Sikh/Muslim or girl a Muslim/Sikh...
Regards.
despunjab 3 years ago
Well for one, this movie is based on Shaheed-E-Mohabbat which was a real story. Another thing is "izzat" is generally attached to women in the south asian culture and thats y u hardly ever see a muslim man n a hindu woman in hindi movies. I watched a really bad pakistani movie "Ladki Punjaban" n that had a muslim man and a sikh girl pair. So it works both ways depending upon the majority the film is trying to appeal to.
nworb 2 years ago
If u watch quality movies with a good storyline, these things do not occur. I wanna give Pinjar as an example. Rashid kidnapped a hindu girl but u find out the hindus started it by kidnapping his aunt in the past and the entire movies goes back n forth showing good and bad sides of both. It wasn't the religion it was the ppl n the culture. That movie does not try to demonize 1 or the other.
nworb 2 years ago

Gadar was based on a true story therefore I think that this movie too is based on that true story.
sabbirsa 3 years ago
I just searched for that movie "Gadar" and that movie was the worse movie I have ever seen.. yea probably based 50% on true story and 50% indian hate to pakistan..
"Gadar" is a typical stupid indian movie. yes of course against the pakistanis!!
Partition is a beautiful movie..
TrustW0rthy 3 years ago
Its amazing how Kristin became the pakistani girl, I mean she acted it really well and i totally forgot that she was western she looked asian somehow. And for those who think Sikhs are bad or Muslims are bad, u dont really know wat happened after partition. There was a vicious cycle of hatred where many innocent ppl from both sides were killed. Sometimes we cant blame anyone this was one such situation.
GARRYKINGLIVE 3 years ago 5
Kristin is half Dutch, half Chinese so that's why she looked Asian. lol.
I haven't seen this movie but I'm going to look for it.
