  • I wish these two would do a whole album of tones like this one

  • I listen to this drunk and sad in my dark room, streetlights coming in through the blinds, over and over. Feels good.

  • and nobody called...and nobody came.

  • Fantastically dark performance...genius

  • Sam the happy cat, who died and went to pussy heaven

  • "if he has quit drinking then why is he still so mean?"

  • Amazing song, did Cale and Reed actually wrote the lyrics ? I kind of wished Warhol would have, but...

  • @NoirOrchestre He did...

  • If have not already, listen to this song in total darkness for max. effect.

  • I'd love to find out however Lou played those amazing sounds. I mean, a delay pedal, sure, but what technique?

  • Lou reed reads this story on his live video release of the concert for Magic & Loss, but his reading is done in a bad faggy imitation of Warhols voice. Cales version has so much more depth.

  • you can never tell anyone anything

  • God that must have been hard for them to perform. Absolutely amazing though.

  • un putain de chef-d'œuvre !

  • this one is simply beautiful

  • Thanks! I really love this one.

  • And then I saw John Cale. And he's been looking really great.

  • This particular composition was written entirely by Lou Reed based on the Andy Warhol Diaries, although not quoted verbatim, he said he just wanted to create a feeling through Warhol's perspective...John Cale, in my opinion gives an absolutely brilliant reading of this work, if you remember, he also recited The Gift, another Lou Reed story on the Velvet Underground's White Light, White Heat...his monotone Welsh accent is transfixing....

  • I thought that it was John Cale who wrote this. Are the credits on the CD wrong?

  • No, I'm certain it was written by Lou..

He spoke in a couple of interviews about

trying to create the personae of Andy in the lyrics.

I understand even Laurie Anderson had a go

at reading them! But no question, this album is in my all time top ten.

  • @boliverful1, Reed also claimed to have composed all of the Velvets songs which is´nt true. Reed mainly wrote the lyrics, the music and sound of the Velvets to a large extent are a product of Cale´s contribution.

It was also Reed´s selfishness that led to the 2nd split up during the reunion tour in 1992. IMO Reed is a pain in the ass!

  • renversant...........

  • Je passais par là pour envoyer cette vidéo à un ami et voilà que je croise ton commentaire, ravi que tu l'aies apprécié !

  • è una canzone meravigliosa......

  • some of the lyrics from this album/session are SO moving. really, somehow, it's not about Andy... maybe it's about people in a broader sense? i mean, i think a lot of people can relate to these songs, even if we never knew Andy as a person.

  • i totally agree. i hrd this album in 90 and loved it, still do. i only recntly found out its about andy. coz andy is such a talentless deuschbag, just right placfe .... oh well

  • It IS about Andy. It just so happens that many of the words can be related to others in general. That's it's power.

  • One of the best songs ever

  • gee its so beautiful

  • by the way sorry to ask that but who wrote this text ? is it andy warhol ? ( it's incredible the atmosphere you can get with only two instrument...)

  • great the french subtitles ! my fav song from Song for Drella, a song to listen at night...

  • Their personal relationship may have been unstable - but once the sparks are there, they are a force to be reckoned with

  • Whatever you say about Lou, this is John's album. "Dream" is genius. "Forever Changed" is very good. I wonder if Lou really wanted to do "Drella," his songs are so uninspired. Lou's apologies for Old Banana Cover are at times ridiculous: Andy didn't actually say "Take drugs" - he just invited addicts and said "Lights, camera, action." He could have said "Cut - you're high!" anytime. Lou is slamming Edie again???

  • i don't understand what you're talking about, i mean lou reed composed all the song of this album...

  • The CD says all the music and lyrics were written by Cale and Reed, which doesn't tell you who wrote what. Maybe it was like Lennon & McCartney, who worked together loosely but mostly sang their own songs. In any case, there's a striking contrast between the songs sung by Cale and the others. Cale presents a very different image of Warhol and, I think, the music is better.

  • harrowing. brilliant. huge in its smallness...

  • Cale and Reed at their very, very best! The tension between them (at the time) adds to the 'edge' of this performance . . .

  • powerful, powerful stuff

  • this is brilliant.

  • i love velvet underground alot

  • If you like experimental music, just try TACUARA NOD, available on youtube

  • no DVD for this yet?? what's keeping them? who's responsible??

    a-mazing.

  • I was very cross the real me, they just better remember, what happened to Sam the bad cat, that was left at home, and got sick and went to pussy heaven.

  • Gee, that must be fun.
