That’s awesome, now I finally really know how to make them. But if you have more than just one person in the scene with a stick (lightsaber), how do you make it for all of them at the same time. Im still new at Motion.
@JWiggs187 Your comment was posted 3 months ago so I don't know if you figured it out yet or not, but I was having the same problem at school. After all of your layers have the color filter, just play around with the highlights. The midtones don't really seem to do anything.
I'm very familiar with After Effects (CS5). I prefer FCP over Premiere though. I'm considering moving exclusively to FCP Studio and using Motion for my special effects needs. Does Motion have lightning effects and the various special effects that After Effects has become known for. Also, anybody that has used AE and Motion which do you prefer?
You've really helped me to make the initial transition into Shake as well, always found it very unfamiliar and daunting. Your tutorials just make sense, always a pleasure :)
@ZaneProductionsTRC Just do the whole clip with one color, and render your movie. Then you will import the movie into motion and do the same process with a different color.
@Pverm With the motion of the lightsaber it will never get a solid color, and it will have the overflow of the possibly bad chroma key job. Unless you have a camera with an extremely high frame rate, and a large lightsaber, it wont work too well, and you also wont get the feather effect.
Most studios do motion capturing for any scenes they plan on roto scoping.... The first films to use this technique as a rule was, the Two Towers... for the golum character.
Nice job! I've wondered how to do this and I'm glad to see the demo. How tedious! Certainly makes you appreciate those long light saber duels in the later Star Wars movies.
when i make the shape of my mask it just shows the line and the screen stays white. why is this. do i have a setting on that i need turned off?

dylanbriz19 2 years ago
so, we are saying that we can do this same effect with:
After effects, Apple Motion, Shake, and I guess Nuke can do it too.
Which are the differences?

why not make a green lightsaber, and use it as a green"screen"?
