I find Speer's architecture to be a triumph of scale over originality. The Nazis wanted rural areas to return to/retain twee rustic characteristics. For Germania and the cities they wanted neo-classicism on a scale which was distorted and of inhuman proportions. Le Corbusier, Eames, Frank Lloyd-Wright and the Bauhaus designers had more originality and taste. Speer was talented but I suspect he was fettered by Hitler's expectations. It's a shame he was Nazi scum.

Actually, most european architects and artist of this era detested nazi art and architecture, it was megalomaniac, pretentious and self proclaimed historic. The nazi's exaggerated, enlarged and multiplied everything about the neo-baroque style, much to the dislike of even the neo-baroque architects.
Opinions differ, some may like the neo-classical style, but it was outdated, even for that era.
This Nazi architecture is ugly. It's all heavy and imposing. The Greeks and the Romans knew how to create structures that displayed power in an aestically pleasing manner that also provided some useful public amenity. No such vision here.
I like Speer too but he was a bit of a sellout. In order to save himself from the gallows he lied about a lot of things at the Nuremberg trials and talked a lot of shit about Hitler that was either distorted for flat out untrue... simply because it was what the Allies wanted to hear and record in the history books.

Acropolis is a Greek name given for the structural "fortress and temple" of the polis, usually built on a hill. Athens for example, has an Acropolis today. Hitler's Germania is based on Classical design, from Greece - so I'd assume he was talking about the Acropolis.

The guy who designed the model above (Albert speer) took over as minister for munitions in 1942 and organised everything to such a degree so they were producing 3 times as much with only a 15% increase in raw materials. Theyd be nothing without speer.
In Nazi Germany there was less than one car for every 30 people. Didn't stop the Nazis demolishing a synagogue and claiming that they "needed the land for a car park" though. How lame...

architecture in Germany left,that can be visited.For example a street like
"Grazer Damm" in Berlin-Friedenau,built in the late 1930ies.
Absolutely monotonous and sad,a street for cars,not for human beings.

hte cultural palace in Warsaw (I have been to this city twice) as well as the main-street of Kiev,
which is nearly completely from this time ( Chrestchatik).

The allied forced covered up most of the Jewish Soviet Union's crimes and succeeded in making the Nazi's look so evil. In truth however there is no concrete figure of how many people they killed and no references to gassing in any nazi document! Look beyond the veil, research both interpretations of history.

Generalplan Ost was secret (and therefore could conceivably have been faked), but the Hunger Plan was openly discussed (and approved of) by almost all of Germany's leaders.
The fundamental problem is that Western Europe was incapable of food self-sufficiency under 1940s conditions. Once the British Navy cut off imports from the Americas, the Germans were dependent on Russia (either as an ally as was the case pre-Barbarossa, or as depopulated Lebensraum.)

@GCarty80 Generalplan Ost is a 'reconstructed' document (no original copy or carbon copies exist - there never was one in all truth - but after getting a Nazi doctor's [who evaded capture for 2 months] 'confession' that it did apparently exist [that man wasn't found guilty at Nuremburg, unlike many other Nazi doctors] the British thought they would claim it as fact). Truth is, the man cut a deal. I am aware the leaders discussed the food problem in Russia. That is a sad thing.

Acropolis is a Greek name given for the structural "fortress and temple" of the polis, usually built on a hill. Athens for example, has an Acropolis today. Hitler's Germania is based on Classical design, from Greece - so I'd assume he was talking about the Acropolis.
Necropolis would be a dead polis - and I'm sure Germania was not intended to be full of dead people; a massive cemetery.

It was called an acropolis, because it mimics the classical style of the acropolis - and if it should be called a necropolis, it would have to resemble the byzantium/middle age mausoleums, or catacombs of Paris. I don't care to make this a "they killed more than them."

Yeah, it was officially referred to as "Neo-classicism with size" - Hitler was a big fan of Roman (classical) architecture. He and Speer planned to base Germania on an upsized and modernised version of this classical Roman architecture, with possible Greek influence too.

A old man who served under General Patton was the one who explained this to me.......think he is qualified on this topic? That's right....he was actually THERE. He said the German army was an incredible fighting machine (much better than anticipated) and because Hitler foolishly spread out his armies (by invading Russia) the German army lost their advantage.

@colderbeer Yeah the German Army itself I believe (cant remember) still outnumbered the Allies even in the later period of 1944-45 when the Axis were in full retreat on all fronts (Italy, France and Russia/Poland). The guy who designed the model above (Albert speer) took over as minister for munitions in 1942 and organised everything to such a degree so they were producing 3 times as much with only a 15% increase in raw materials. Theyd be nothing without speer.
