  • LOST!!!

  • Framerate, depth of field and shutterspeed are all very important, and will help to achieve a more film like look. But by just shooting 24p on a handy-cam is not going to give you the same look as shooting 24p on a RED or CineAlta Camera. Quality and range of colour depth will give you the look, and now because of new DSLRs, people can get pretty close :)

  • i would like to know the edit software used in this demostration.. please!

  • Watch my short (it's in a movie look)

    thank you!

  • Great video! It's really useful to have not only the instructions of WHAT to do but also the background information so you know WHY to do it. That's something many other "tips" videos lack, but this one includes plenty of info so good job!

  • Pink Floyd!!

  • so they still use film in modern movies today??

  • @samanferrari yes

  • @samanferrari depends on director, some of them want to use film and some use digital cameras like RED.

  • Great video, very informative

  • hey really enjoyed this video some very good information ive honestly never heard of before but know it makes since! Food for thought I guess but seriously Great information!

  • @RandoCommandoBandito Glad to hear this!

  • lol hes watching lost in the begining

  • how do you like the xh a1(s?)

  • Hahaha the wonderful wizard of oz

  • 1. Buy a Canon

    2. Set to 24p

    3. ????

    4. Profit

  • Which software u suggest 4 editing.pal 30fps is smother or NTSC 30fps.plzz ans.

  • @tomcruise19002 : If I may respond... PAL or NTSC has two differences: the resolution of the image (when speaking about standard definition that is) and the amount of interlaced frames per second, so PAL or NTSC will make no difference in "smoothness" in motion.

NTSC is a lot more prone to deviation in colors compared to PAL because of the fact that PAL uses precisely the half of the mains voltage's frequency for clock rates to base it's frames-per-second signal on.

  • Just buy a Red One.

  • 24p and 25p. Noticable difference in the 'look'?

  • lost season 1!

  • IM CONFUSED

so 30fps for fast motion and clear display

so why use 24fps? benefits? and when?

  • nice show but why 240p?

  • @DexterEvilGenius You can see higher quality videos on our website at Videomaker(dot)com.

    Cheers,

    The Videomaker Team

  • @videomaker Thanks, but It doesn't matter if it'shigher quality, I can get the info I need with these and these load faster :D

  • @DexterEvilGenius 24p because they used 24 frames per second when they were using film.It gives it a choppy look

  • @cotea100 Well I mean the video quality not 24fps 240p

  • Respond to this video... I use a cannon power shot sd780IS digital ELPH HDMI 12.1 mega pixels (walmart 169 bucks!)

  • Comment removed

  • i cant find that setting

  • My camera has 1/50 (25fps), if I edit it in 24.95fps on Premiere will the smooth film look be achived? thanks

  • @BuckBrotherStudios Yes, that would work.

    Cheers,

    The Videomaker Team

  • Can I pull down the frame rate in Vegas Pro 9? I only have a cheap Canon camcorder with no filters or frame rate adjustment capabilities. Working with what I've got, is there anything I can do to make the crummy DV footage look more filmic?

  • @MordaciousFilms Vegas Pro 9 can work with any frame rate, but for more details you might want to post your question on the Videomaker forums at Videomaker(dot)com. All questions posted there get reviewed by both Videomaker's staff experts and knowledgeable people in the community.

  • is it necesary that we have to use music composed by us..or we can take music from other songs n movies...n do we need to have to get the film certified by the film board..before putting a documentary into a

    competition?

  • @poplu13 That's a whole other can of worms. If you want to know more, you can find videos on our channel dealing with copyright and fair use issues that should answer your question.

    Cheers,

    The Videomaker Team

  • Hey, look at the bright side, It can buffer quickly. :)

  • what about 25fps?

  • @cactus248productions With 25fps, you can get a good film look with a good deinterlacer.

    Cheers,

    The Videomaker Team

  • films we grew up watching? lol, how old are you? 85? I don't know anyone alive who grew up watching Ben Hur and The Wizard of Oz. anyways, good stuff.

  • @mike7743 said: "I don't know anyone alive who grew up watching Ben Hur and The Wizard of Oz."

Right now there is a 6yr old growing up watching Wizard of Oz. I always laugh when people say they are too young to know about certain things. They don't get erased. They're still there. ;)

  • @VideoMenu that's called the "exception" not the rule. now ask yourself, how many 6yr old children are currently watching the Wizard of Oz? would they be a large number enough to be representatives of this generation's taste?

  • @mike7743 What movies do you think would replace Wizard of Oz for today's kids?

  • @mike7743

I'm going to poke another hole in your incredulity: You don't know anyone 85yrs old therefore no 85 years old exist?

  • @mike7743

By the way, many filmmakers love film... period. It may not be *your* taste, but you always hear about successful artists who were raised on the old stuff, be it music, painting, film, books, etc.

  • what camera is that ???

  • How to change 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:9 in Adobe after effects ??

  • Color Grading.

  • haha hes watching lost in the backround... lost is awesome

  • this is alright but thats if you have the cameras you are talking about. which 90 percent of the people who viewed, do not have.

  • fr being a professional company, your videos sure are blurry...

  • Buy a Canon XH A1! Great film look on that camera!

  • how to make your film look like a film

  • hi saw ur video looks nice

    i got question

    i got 7d canon + 24 105 lens + 50 mm1.2

is this both lens work to shoot film looks?

  • Really useful stuff :)

  • Would the video look just as smooth if it shot in 60 progressive frames as it does in 60 interlaced frames?

  • thanks, i was wondering how they did it, but im confussed lol!

  • I suddenly feel very nauseous

  • sounds like to me you down grading the image to look like old film, why? Digital is much better Q then film.

  • @devonmale69 True, but sometimes people just prefer the grainier look because of the associations it has with old style cinema.

    Cheers,

    The Videomaker Team

  • @videomaker Luddites is all I can say, we still be using glass plates for photography like Fox Talbot if we had the same attitude...

  • @videomaker Film is still vastly superior to digital in overall image quality. Have you ever seen an IMAX movie? Arri's Alexa has come close to 35, but it certainly isn't there yet.

  • @SalilSundresh True that. IMAX is the best and they haven't shot a format that large on video. But that's not to poo-poo what video is doing in cinema. The Red Epic has the best quality image second only to the IMAX format.

  • @devonmale69 On the high end, hollywood movies film is still widely used.

  • MagicBullet...hahaha

  • COOL I LIKE IT & THANK YOU, SIR.

  • take a look at mye Panasonic sd60 videos, great quality.

  • Im in Aus so we normally shoot 25fps, yet I would like to shoot in 24fps so achieve the film look. I'm using a panasonic DVCPro HDcam, what settings would I change to shoot filmesque? Also I'll be shooting against a green screen do you advise shooting 24p with green screen shots? or should i work on frame rate in post?

  • LOST!! The best serie evah!

  • Can you please recommend a professional Digital Video Cam ,Under 2500$!

That does 24p, HD footage ? I was looking at the sony hdr-fx7 but it doesn't do 24p. can anyone give me some good advice ... I want to try to make small films.!

  • @MrTestNTune the canon xh-a1 is near your $2500 price limit. I recently bought a canon xh-a1s and it was $3250 from B&H video but it came with an extra battery, 5 tapes, a wide angel lens and a case. the xh-a1 is a little cheaper than the xh-a1s and it is HD and shoots 24P.

  • @matthewTpeet Oh ok , that's most then I wanna spend on my first cam , Plus U said tapes I'm looking for digital film . I like to edit unliner :)

  • 24fps ,color correction , wide angle , fpsx2= shutter speed for realistic motion blur

  • Is 24p the same as pf24?

  • Does Anybody Know HOw To Make a Music Video Look Professional?

  • YAY! LOST!

  • Which camera is better, canon GL2 or Panasonic DVX 100?

  • isn't it jitter?

  • Ironically, this video that talks about hundreds or thousands of dollars cameras, is presented in 240p...

  • LOST!!!

  • Nice advice

  • HE'S FLYING IN THE END!

  • I have a Canon GL2. Does it have a 24p setting? If so, is it located in the menu somewhere?

  • why all the videos are for cameras worth more than a car?? why can't anyone make tutorial like this for normal home camcorders!!!!

  • I love this guy!! So far all the advices and tips he has givin are amazing! And really simple and easy to do. 5 stars mate!

  • I'm using the Sony HDR-CX 105e HD 1080i camcorder, and judging by the design, it doesn't really look 35mm lens compatible. is it? og the external lenses only compatible with videocameras with the same design as the SLR digital cameras? (poorly explained, hopefully you get the picture) I'm really interested in knowing if there exists a 35 mm lens for my camera, I'm really into film...

    THX.

  • I like that adobe premiere pro there.

  • How do you make the trick when from inside the camera is going outside and doesn't stop flying. Thes you can see it better exactly in the begining of the movie Hostage and in Dirty Harry

  • @OgrAdaY shut up! You should just be happy that we get these great videos!

  • The haters need to stop hating, everything in this video is true and useful. Shut your mouth, you might learn something.

  • i use a canon vixia VF R10 will it work for me?

  • Thanks very much very helpful.

  • thank you for the tutorial!

    GBY

  • TO MAKE YOUR VIDEO LOOK LIKE A FILM YOU HAVE TO DO COLOUR CORRECTION!!

  • @rakib567

    Exactly.

  • @rakib567 How do you do color correction???? I have a Sony HDR 550 which is 1080i, i'm feeling really bad about not getting a Canon and a 1080p camera! It makes me want to cry! Can someone please make me feel better about my purchase? I plan on putting my video on DVD for sale and i knew that DVD is standard def so it wouldn't matter but i may do a Blue ray DVD later.....is there much difference between 1080i and 1080p? Can you still make 1080i look movie like?

  • Why do you guys use so bad camera?

  • @MrTeddytroll lol so true- they give us tips but don't use them

  • This is a really useful video! Well explained too.

  • That's very, very informative. Thank you very much. :)

One question though, if I may: You mentioned using video editing software to convert an interlaced video into progressive scan. I'm guessing the whole point of interlaced film is so that you can increase frame rate without increasing the cost too much. That said, do most video cameras film in an interlaced format? I would guess that that's the case, except for high-end video cameras. Still, confirmation would be nice. Thank you.

  • I have a Panasonic AG-DVC20 Camcorder and there is not a setting for 24p. However, there is and LP and SP setting, and I was wondering if the LP mode shoots in 24p because it takes up less film. Couldn't find the frame rate anywhere in the mannual

  • just a question. Is it possible to achieve that frame look while shooting at 50i? Thanks

  • Hi video maker, I have a question to ask. What's the difference in video between 24fps and 25fps?

  • @kelvintan1108 I think it's like 29.97 fps is the same as saying 30 fps. Like instead of saying 24.92 fps some cameras/software just say 25 fps...Not sure though, just a theory :D

  • @Addman03 24fps(23.987) is film, 25fps is PAL which is Australian and Europe video/tv standard. In America it's 30fps. There's really not much visual difference between shooting 25 and 24

  • Nice Channel Dude thumps up.

    greetings

  • Maybe you could use a video editing suite that has an adjustable frame rate. As far as I'm concerned, Windows Movie Maker, Adobe Premiere Elements, and even iMovie all used a fixed frame rate of 30p. If you can change the frame rate in Premiere Pro to 24p, that would probably give a more accurate film look.

  • "fewer" frames per second

  • @OgrAdaY

high rez version available on our website (see link in description). Cheers.

  • people its not that I don't have a digital its the digital is my dads
