  • OMG!!!! I never saw this before!! Thank you SO much for posting this!!!!!

  • This is a very "grotesque" video. =p

  • @dancecamerondance123 soft parade best doors album by far (my opinion)

  • 41 people arent ancient lunatics

  • the ancient lunatic is whispering, the silver birch baby with idol's eye...check out the youtube channel...try to remember

  • JE vais vous dire à tous eh bien je suis vivant comme ein fish im wasser.

  • remember when we were in africa????

  • Who else thinks the soft parade should have gotten better reviews than it did?

  • an ancient lunatic reigns in the trees of the night..... HA HA HA HA HA HA.

  • Wild child save humain race

  • @miaben77 please save us....

  • that laugh sounds a bit like will farrell's laugh.

  • Jim was cool. But where would he be without Robbie; a magic guitarist,

  • This video went viral on Venezuela

  • @danielbarret1025 take aspirine

  • I always feel the ecstasy of the crawlin kingsnake and the gritty americana, I'd put him in ranks with Whitman, if you include the music. He wasn't a poet, he was a performer, but in an early-greek / dionysian way. Long live MoJo!

  • love Robbies guitar in this song

  • An Ancient Lunatic Reigns in the Trees At Night..aha!

  • Love how Jim laughs and then suddenly his smile dissapears haha

  • was known as wild child back in the day

  • God he was stoned out of his mind, look at his eyes!!

Just amazing, this is so soulful, Jim is so sexy and authentic!

  • Jim was a poet' and u know it!

  • Pretty good. Checkin in. Agreed @noobpowner901...Rimbaud my hero. Do the funky chicken all over my empty Parisian grave. Don't believe everything you hear or read. Not even what you see. The hand is quicker than the eye. Then create something new w/ your mind. TLK

  • J'adore son faux rire :D

  • No Jim, I don't remember when we were in Africa.

  • he is a god

  • Обажаю этих парней.

  • Hatta er óføra góður tónleikur

  • could anyone say what they mean @ remember when we were in africa.

  • @ghola2010

He's talking about a wild child saving the human race.

So the part with Africa means the wild origin of the human race, Africa !

  • Best band from LA ever

  • Ray Manzarek used to play the bassline with his left hand and keyboards with his right.

  • impressive how The Doors seem to grab every generation... i became a fan as a teenager... so are younger people of today... thats quality for you.

  • Wow! Back when E! had a big asss exclamation mark!

  • HEY 37, how can you not enjoy this piece of poetic justice. HAHA!!!!

  • @wearywallow I think that if it was 27 your comment would make more sense.. :)

  • peyote

  • who plays bass on this? carol kaye?

  • I think this is becoming my fave Doors song. I love that little laugh Jim does at 1:04

  • all ways follows thed shamen

  • this is awesomwe

  • you remember when we were in affrica

  • I watch this and all I can see is Val Kilmer's face. I swear he did such a good job playing Jim they are almost undistinguishable

  • i play this over and over and just to here tht laugh he does.

  • @ImJordanRamone1 LOVE THAT LAUGH GOT THAT IN SHAMAN BLUES TOO U KNOW

  • With all the sensoring that went on back on 60's TV I am surprised they

let him sing this one. I remember the Smother's Brother's show. I guess

that really dates me. The Doors had Jim for the poetry and singer, but I

do believe the rest of the band had to really work to keep him going.

But I think all of them were onstage sometimes high on acid. Love them.

  • Icon to behold. Love ya Jim!

  • JIM MORRISON THE GOD OF ROCK!!

  • an ancient lunatic reigns in the trees at night....

  • eita esse Morrison era gostoso hein

  • Love his laugh after the "lunatic " part. Very frightening. Ha.

  • The thing that makes Jim special is that some people think he was a genius while other people think he was a madmen. I think he was both. which is positive.

  • @RuberCapillus Those thing often go hand in hand

  • It's about time most The Doors videos have a million views or more

  • These lyrics are terrible. Jim had no talent. He was just a poser pretending to be a poet. He wanted to be seen as legendary. Obviously.

Only about 10% of what Jim did I would consider talent or something that I liked. The real talented band member was Robby Krieger.

  • @pashedmotatos i feel sorry for you..

  • @pashedmotatos I disagree man, He was a poet before a rockstar. In fact, he hated being known as a rock singer. His real vision was to be a poet. He was an amazing showman and a genius. Musically I'd say that Ray was the glue holding everything together; but if it wasn't for Jim; The Doors wouldn't have been famous.

  • @nosdog136 read Walt Whitman, Wordsworth, Mirza Ghalib ,Jelaluddin Rumi even L. Cohen and then tell me Jimbo was a poet. He was a rock lyricist and a front man for a very hot live band .

His 'poetry ' on "American prayer" is often laughable. I still dig the doors and am looking for a copy of full circle and other voices b/c I like the music more than the words.

  • @taariqtaariq Whatever man, I'm not gonna start a huge argument over nothing...

  • @taariqtaariq Literary snobs like you are disgusting... You think you know shit because you read Whitman, Wordsworth, and Cohen? Bravo, why don't you go spit out some more generic names. As for Jim Morrison, he was a rock lyricist verging on poetic, yes they are different mediums but you must understand poetry is words. Poetry is song. Get off your high horse and stop trying to make yourself feel better.

  • @NGilmore13 i agree with you but whitman was a great poet and so was wordsworth and morrison was a great poet as well

  • @NGilmore13 Right on brother!

  • @taariqtaariq go read William Blake and Arthur Rimbaud and tell me Jim Morrison isn't a poet.

  • @noobpowner901 he is, it's just that if you read blake and rimbaud you realize he wasn't that good of one.

  • @Macknsteez I don't think he was as good as Blake but I certainly think he was better than Rimbaud. Rimbaud is just such a legend and his hallucinatory depictions were unlike anything else the world had ever seen. It's like saying Jimi Hendrix was a better guitarist than Stevie Ray Vaughan; stevie was just as good but Jimi came first and was the innovator and influence of stevie's playing

  • @noobpowner901 I respect that you have such an interest in poetry, but by your statements I feel like you have never read A Season in Hell?!! If you have, it would be clear how Morrison is literally nowhere near Rimbaud status, in fact no one since Rimbaud has been anywhere close to broaching the energy and passion the way Rimbaud does. Morrison was the greatest lyricist and vocalist of all time, but Rimbaud is on a whole 'nother level. PS SRV in my opinion kinda sucks, so ya...

  • @taariqtaariq

maybe you didnt understand??^^he sometimes deals with totally different topics......but if you listened to "the severed garden" and you say he was no poet, then you are the one who knows nothing about it.......and dont you think its strange to say.....the way a writes is poetry, the person b writes isnt???

  • @taariqtaariq

I didn't care when i found out the literary world dislikes Bukowski and i don't care when i realise simple minded people such as yourself dislike Jim Morrison.

  • @pashedmotatos All due respect to Robby and the rest of the band, I doubt they would have been anything were it not for Jim. I believe that Jim was the intellectual core of the band. He gave The Doors their image and their power. That is talent. And just so you know, every intellectual, every musician, every poet is a poser. Poerty is not above music. It is attractive to the senses, to the aesthetic. It is no more nursing to the intellect than music.

  • An Ancient lunatic reigns in the trees of the night !!!

  • @scat311 .......yah ha ha ha ha ha ha hawh!

  • Why did he have to be taken so soon? I mean damn, who hasn't snorted a little blow and gotten laid? Such great music, such a god. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • Even if there were no drugs back then, he still would have drank himself to death. Another fatality for the records.

  • Oh man, he was sexy

  • He looks truly miserable in this studio.

  • THE LIZARD KING!!!!!!!!

  • Where's the guy with the penis!?

  • God! Why does everyone think they know what went on in jim's life. You only know what you have read. So why dont you let the guy rest in peace, and just enjoy the music.

  • @Denisecochrane1 the only thing that i know about jims life is that i wish id lived it

  • @omedicius GOOD ONE! I LIKE IT!

  • @omedicius a night out with him would do me fine

  • wow the doors on the smothers brothers showand were on the E channel!!!!!! lmfao

  • Ive never seen this, thanks for posting it!....b

  • I love the fact that even though that jimm is high he can still sing all the lyrics. Its like he sings way better when hes high!!!!

  • I LOVE MORRISON ! :D LOVE THE FACT THAT HE WAS A JUNKIE :B

  • @MarthaCobo He wasn't a junkie. In fact, he had an aversion to needles. Heroin was the one drug that he didn't get into to. Now his girlfriend, Pam, was a junkie. And ironically, it has been speculated that he may have od' on Pam's heroin, in the form of powder, which led to his death when he tried it in Paris, mistaking it for cocaine. He did enjoy coke, too. Of course, this is just one theory. And no one really knows for sure. The death certificate just said heart failure, w/o an autopsy.

  • LOVE that at the end "Remember when we were in Africa?"

  • que lindo mi jim mnorrison

  • was he jsut on acid all the time?

  • @douchecock427 obviously not

  • @Kuqulkan how is it obvious that he wasnt on acid all the time?? Were you there? Did you hang out with him?? im just curious how you're so sure. Im not agreeing or disagreeing.

  • @mbphofan I tend to agree with the idea that he wasn't constantly stoned out on acid or peyote. Both are drugs you build a tolerence to pretty quickly. They also have very specific side effects. Sweating profusly and unstoppable laughter are the 2 I am most personally familar with. Peyote also tends to give you the pukes. Jim usually just looks drunk in these old videos. I have no personal experience gained by hanging out with him. In the end it was heroin that got him by all reputable accounts.

  • @voodootex2u but you know what? having such a high iq, and the personality he had, he was able to handle hallucinogens and function just fine. You should check out his biography (if u havent already) it makes for some amazing reading. And im sure youve seen his biopic?? And one more thing...it was never proven that he died from heroin. He died from a heart attack

  • @mbphofan Intelligence has nothing to do with being able to handle or function while high on acid.

  • @voodootex2u It's not conclusive whether he died from Heroin, if he did it was because he snorted while already incredibly intoxicated, leading to a cardia arrest. Plus he hated needles so it's unlikely that he died or was addicted to heroin.

  • @douchecock427 im sure he did acid quite often, among other hallucinogens like psylocibin, DMT, mescaline etc...but peyote along with booze were what he was using for the most part. And yes he was on it alllll the time. The entire band would do peyote and then write music in the desert. Peyote also remains active (half life) up to 3 days

  • @mbphofan hahaha u know what i mean. i do DXM cuz im hardcore....

  • @mbphofan The band did not go out into the desert and write music, that's just wildly over exaggerated in the movie, plus if you've ever seen any documentaries, the band excluding Morrison realized acid would not lead to enlightenment, however Morrison just continued to booze it up.

  • @Macknsteez before you start telling me whats false and whats accurate....read his biography. i know you have not read it because you wouldnt argue my statement if you had. Morrison was obsessed with the desert, with snakes and indians because of what he saw as a kid. The rest of his family says theyy remember nothing about an accident and dead indians. I never said once that acid leads to enlightenment, but mescaline and peyote do. And yes, having a higher IQ leads to better funcionality

  • @mbphofan It's clear you've read his biographies, but you've failed to read my comment. I said the entire band did not go out into the desert and write music, I never said he did not have a fascination with the desert, and did not venture out their while tripping. And no, intelligence has nothing to do with being able to function. However, biographies on him and others tend to exaggerate the myth of him, and to have discussion based on his personal life that you have memorized is pathetic.

  • @Macknsteez lol my bad.....i apologize for the fact that when i read someting, my mind retains it. I wish i didnt have this curse

  • @mbphofan It is unfortunate because not everything that is written is true... I do pity gullible people... sorry, don't mean to brag.

  • @Macknsteez why are you still talking? ?? u dont know me, stop talking to me, ur a loser bro. i bet ur day job is driving around in an old cargo van with cardboard windows, holding a bag of candy out the window in a school zone, u fucking weirdo you

  • @mbphofan That may have been the worst retort I've ever seen... you went from speaking somewhat intelligently to just a random jumble of incoherent insults. And my current "day job" has been swimming on the beach as all 15 years should be... A little embarrassing that you can't compete intellectually with a teenager huh?

  • @mbphofan And which biography do you want me to read? The one that claims he was a homosexual or...??

  • woooooooooo!!! one of the best bands!!

  • @TheGreeengarden no no no THE best

  • If you guys want to hear a good vocal cover to this check out the video response to this u will enjoy it guys:) cheers

  • Un antiguo lunático reinado en los árboles de la noche

    Y libertad en sus ojos...

  • Mr Mojo Risin is the coolest anagram ever.

  • he is one hell of a wild child

    love him

  • Mr Mojo Risin

  • Lou's is better

  • I think it's interesting that The Doors actually got to play a song--on nationwide TV--that wasn't one of their hits. It was the B-side of "Touch Me" and was also on "The Soft Parade" LP. I've always liked this song. It's weird, but it's cool.

  • "I am the lizard king. I can do anything."

  • Gotta Love The Lizard King!!!!

  • I noticed they didn't put him on the revolving part of the set.. Hes proably got a hard enough time standing up on the still stage.. lol, I love me some jim morrison.. Greatist Rocker of all time

  • the song talks about Arthur Rimbaud? so Jim was a great admirer of Rimbaud...

  • One of Jim's heroes was an 19th century explorer-gun runner who supposedly just disappeared one day in Africa after getting fed up with "The Lifestyle". This could be related to the song.

  • Odd, I just noticed he looks very young in this video, more so than in "Touch Me," done on the same show. To me, Jim always looked older than he was.

  • what does he mean when he says remember when we were in Africa? maybe he had a weird trip while doing drugs over there, he was tripping, he's got some unfoggetable experience, who knows what uh!

  • fuck yeah jim sing the fucking shit out of this song . i wish that jim was still alive

  • @DEADHEAD71344 he died young so we'll always remember him young instead of aging; maybe he had a fear of getting old

  • Why doesn't E! play this kind of greatness now?!

  • Totally digging the laugh @ 1:03

  • 0:58 An ancient lunatic reins In the trees of the night Ha, ha, ha, ha.

I dunno why put i love that Part especially his Laugh(NO HOMO)

  • He was just awesome.

The laugh was pure Jim. He always admired Sinatra and apparently was self conscious of his singing voice, if you can believe it. One of a kind. I've been a Doors fan since I was 10, and I'm 45 now. We cover them in my band, and I enjoy playing them more than any other band.

  • @jpcmd Keep on going dude!

Would like to hear you playing!

  • Auch unglaublich Geil........Yeah

  • that laugh is pure badass rock.

  • eterno!

  • always loved this song jim didnt tak
