According to "Big Chuck" Schodowski's autobiography,"Big Chuck" just out over the weekend. Andy was very good to work with in this skit..He (Andy) was actually headlining a CBS-TV special called "The Andy Griffith Uptown-Downtown Show" with Don Knotts and Tennessee Ernie Ford, scheduled to air Tuesday, February 21, 1967, which is why Andy threw out those names as "people he knew" The book will be available by nest week in local bookstores..A great read..lots of good stories
Andy knew that..and so did the hosts..This was more of a plug for his CBS Special as a kind of "network-to- affiliate"thing..as WJW-8 was a major CBS affiliate at the time..
The slate right at the beginning said the show was done on February 17, 1967..I believe it was done live, just a couple months after Hoolihan and Big Chuck's Premiere show on 12-16-1966. Andy's Birthday was June 1..Hard to believe Andy will be 81 in a few weeks..
He said he was 40, and he was born in 1926, so we can deduce that it was taped in 1966. Fun (and odd) to see Andy self-deprcating and slumming with these local yokuls at the height of his success
The man on the left reminds me of Hugh Hefner
