Eeeeee.... that was close at the end. I had someone overtake me on the Jake the otherday on an electric LOL. I was faster on the hill though as I was lighter. I'd love to see how that roadie reacts to an old biddy like that HAHA!!
I ride in jeans and a hoody when commuting. That way you feel like a hero when you overtake those in Lycra on carbon bikes. But there's always someone faster than you out there.
is it absolutely essential to wear those biking clothes? im only 13, a keen biker and i just wanna know if i can go long distance like you did there but with everyday shorts and a shirt?
Gecko, you don't need to wear cycling lycra, but it's better for longer rides. I'm happy with anything up to 10 miles or so in normal clothes, but further than that and I want to be wearing lycra. It just works better. My commute is 43 miles round trip, so lycra for me.
cycling shorts don't ride up your legs and leave your legs rubbing the saddle, not good over longer distances, the neater the fit the less wind resistance :-)
just finished this years pedal for scotland in about 3 and a half hours :D

Never mind the white roadie. At 3.50 you overtook the world champion.

Gecko, you dont need lycra to ride, but it does have some good properties like getting rid of sweat better, cotton tends to soak it up and sit there.
Sometimes you can get cheap sports fabrics from walking shops (Blacks or Oswald Baileys) and these will do just as well.
