I love how they call the 'U-boat' a menace. British American French fleets more than doubled German fleets. They had to use other means, it was necessary.
@pogpogcasino how did the US copy U-boats? ... shows how much you know about submarine history, did you know its actually the americans who invented the concept? And they who confirmed the requirements of a submarine?
The germans invented nothing in regard to the submarine
@pogpogcasino well not really, stuff like the subs germans had in even the first world war were already being used by everyone else, germany was the first to make proper use of them and take them through a revolution in design but they certainly didnt invent them
@PhilosopherGaming I agree. They were the first TERROR in the SEA and their brilliance was the foundation of how deadly a well-equip submarine can be.
why is there never a mention of USS Argonaut S166? the largest sub in Navy until the boomers. over 300 feet. long. built to lay mines. converted to carry marines on clandistine missions. 1st Marine Raiders went on the first mission of WWll in the pacific aboard Argonaut and Narwal. She was sent on essentially a suicide mission and was lost on jan 10 1943 with all hands including my Uncle Roy
At 7:45, look at the symbol painted on the conning tower of the boat. Doesn't it resemble a Klingon Trefoil from Star Trek? hmmmmm....the symbol of a stealthy predator of war...a universal theme it seems.
I like that C-Class submarine ....I have the 1/35 scale. Well if in the Europe theater of war U-Boot spread the death from the deep. In the Pacific, C-Class subs rules!!!
It was Arthur L. Busch who "gave birth" to America's first submarines/not who his former company, Electric Boat ,claims to have built "their" first submarine. Company's record's are indeed distorted and do not accurately reflect what it was that transpired during the compny's initial success and foundations. Company dishonest about many things, including their character etc...
IF "The History Channel" were to "investagate" the "vain" (and extent) in which John P. Holland and Arthur L. Busch were involved with the initial (submarine) company known as Electric Boat, then they will have made a decent (unbiased) attempt to set General Dynamic's origins (and history) straight -as never honestly done before.
American's have lost a part of their (true) character, due, in part, to the reckless inability to keep records relating to this (milestone) in NavalHistory straight
Technically it was "The Turtle" by David Bushnel in 1776 that was Americas' first sub. Then the first sub to sink a ship was "The Hunley" by Horace Hunley in 1863. It sank the SS Housitanic on Feb 17 1884. Busch emmigrated to the US in 1892 ; and with John Holland in 1896 started building Hollands' first sub. Hollands' 6th sub was the first commissioned sub in 1900. To disregard or ignore the accomplishments of thoses prior is a dishonor to my submarine heritage.
Yes, You can be considered correct in this matter. I'm not in anyway downplaying the contributions of those who came before Holland, I'm just trying to set the record straight as never honestly done before... as The Electric Boat Company has been less than honest about these events and their true character - which somehow downplays Mr. Busch's role in their initial success. Companys records are distorted and do not reflect their history w/any sense of accuracy. Known to be "steeped in scandals"
@logancody07 yeah, those days everything was glory, when it comes to submarines they are the most intelligent. Like Intellectuals never show off, submarines never show off the sea, they are silent and on the job. Of cource stealth is more important in modern warfare than glory and size.
