More suspension travel in the ass end. Keep the front stable. Then keep the front on the level ground and let the rear roll over whatever. If youve still got the rear sway but want it for highway, pop off one link before the trail. Just remember to bolt it back up when you hit the pavement
@jhhwingnut im also going to say that he needs a new suspension set up. it looks stock which is okay but for what he was doing he needs something that will allow greater articulation of the axles so its not stiff and he can keep the tires on the ground longer. he could have also used a spotter to point out a path. he looks like he just went for it and as we found out, picked the wrong path.
@bldeagle10 All that is true for sure......greater articulaion would have helped emensely, always does, I was just saying that just the addition of lockers would have been the single one thing that would have made the difference (in my opinion).....especially if you're on a limited budget and want to maintain a daily driver, I would suggest at least a 4" lift, at least 33X12.5, winch, at least 4.11x1 gears & most of all lockers (actually the winch above all, then lockers for sure) .
@jhhwingnut I know someone will prolly correct me so I'll do it b4 they get the chance....it's "immensely" !! lol Ohh those things I mentioned above will be several thousand dollars but they made my TJ a lot more "effective"....a winch can be a real confidence builder.....believe me, mine saved me from a cold nite alone, stranded in a mud bog just below Mesquito Pass Colo. I had just installed it for that trip, I also love Moab, Utah !!!
@jhhwingnut true. in my mind lockers can be even more important than a lift kit. ive seen a lifted truck struggle to get through a spot in a trail then a stock height cherokee run through with air lockers without breaking a sweat. deffinetely worth the money. you will get through and it helps reduce impact on the trails
@bldeagle10 That's true....like I said above....I would get a winch first and then lockers and change gear ratios for the bigger tires to come later, actually the winch, lockers & a lift are really about equally important, but if I couldn't get it all at once and had to save for each, thats the way I might proceed, I truly love the lockers but the winch is truly the "safety net".....my winch made the difference of spending a cold lonely night stuck in a bog in the back country of Colo or not !!
@jhhwingnut Even though I'm usually always prepared for a cold, unscheduled overniter, due to being stuck or equipment failure......the winch can really very often make it very possible to be fixin steaks back at camp, around the warm fire tellin lies of the days run.....lol, instead of half sleeping, dreading the thought of "diggin out in the morning.....no better way to get to that great trout stream, or just enjoy so many beautiful sites you just can't get to in a car or regular truck....!!!
@jhhwingnut the winch is more important i agree. and with the new line of warn winches they are affordable. especially for my cherokee. ill end up spending 1000 for the winch/bumper/ and winch plate. alot cheaper than 3k for a set of ARB air lockers! i know there are cheaper ones on the market but those are the only ones i trust to last. might as well do it right and buy the best first... i know i will end up getting a winch and the bumpers i want before i get lockers.
@bldeagle10 If you haven't already checked them out, you should check out some really cool videos of 4wheeling over the passes out in Colorado....like "black bear" pass above Teluride, Colo. Some really good ones are made by "Jeepstergal".......good job video editing & some great music to accompany them, right here on YouTube....just type in "Jeepstergal" .....enjoy !!!
someone asked about what good offroading vehicles are there. hummers are NOT maybe ok for overland if you dont have to climb technical stuff and you dont care about gas. rovers suck. the new ones at least. the discoveries are damn good. and the first rovers were literally jeeps with body panels put on them. jeeps are the over all best. perfect wheel base and they go anywhere you want it to if you know how to drive and build it for the intended application
Jeeps. Hummers are too a) big b) shiny and c) expensive and d) gay. Rovers are exactly the same as hummers...only more of point C. I'd take a 4-runner there, but that's pushing the size limits, imo.
Did you ask him if he could taste the driver's seat through his asshole On his way down? We call that "pucker factor"! I'd love an old CJ like this, problem is those leaf-sprung suspensions don't flex very well, as we can see.
Did this in a stock 08 Land Rover LR3 in August 08. 6 of us all made it with no problems. Just need a good spotter ahead watching your line next time.

Every where they are in this Vid is on the trail... You have to get past this spot to complete the trail, there is NO going around it!
The dude in the red shirt hanging on to the Jeep however is just asking to be hurt in some way...lol.

@bldeagle10 If he had had lockers he wouldn't have had any trouble at all...!! That right tire would have pulled him out and away from the wall...!!

Those guys hanging off the side of the truck would have been better (and safer) spotting the big rock that he drove over.
