  • Good thing neither of them needed a respirator!

  • It's like when I wake up my Mom when she's sleeping

  • The power company has a breakdown.

  • This confused me when I was young.

Didn't seem all that dark and boy what was Ernie thinking calling oscar? He had to have known what he was doing.

BTW, check out the SW site. You hear a crew women shouting just before this begins.

  • What makings for the next president! Ernie irritates Bert with obvious questions. Then he decides to call someone to state the obvious. And as if that were not enough, he knows how to point the blames for his own actions elsewhere!

Impeach Obama, and make Ernie president!

  • what year is this skit from

  • It'd be even more freakier if the guy Ernie called was the cab driver that Oscar the Grouch was based on!!!

  • 3:49- Two words: Dick move!

  • i wonder what time was it exactly and what is LMAO?

  • Oscar: WHATS THE IDEA CALLING ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT?? WHO IS THIS ANYWAY BECAUSE I WILL SEE TO IT THAT YOU DON'T SLEEP FOR A WEEK! WHO IS THIS TELL ME WHO IS THIS??? LMAO

  • What clip is that before Bert and Ernie? All I see is a black spot on a white back ground.

  • He set him up! :^X

  • @Cuteblondie1972 How'd you know?

  • @Cuteblondie1972 I felt sorry for Erine, if he didn't want Oscar to yell at him he should've called him

  • We can put on the coffee machine for some pitch black coffee Bert!

  • How is the phone working when there's a blackout?!

  • @MrTornado300 Because Phone is no electricity.

  • PLEASE GO TO SLEEP!!!!! XD

  • @webkinzrocks300 Elmo wasn't on the show yet then. He didn't come til later.

  • Trudy: Penny, YA CAN'T LISTEN TO YOUR IPOD CUZ THE IPOD NEEDS ELECTRICITY AND YOU SCREWED UP THE BATTERIES ON IT A LONG TIME AGO JUST LIKE THE TV SET AND THE COMPUTER AND THERE'S A BLACKOUT

Penny: Hmm I Think I'll Call Dijonay Maybe She Knows Something About It

Riing: GET LOST DAUGHTER! Zaap POP!

Penny: Hey Trudy It's OK I Know Who Caused The Blackout, Dijonay Smashed The Fusebox

Trudy: WILL YOU QUIT BOTHERING DIJONAY AND GET TO YOUR SWEET 16 PARTY.

  • this isn't from the 80s, it's from 1976

  • Note how Bert says "the ELECTRICITY company" instead of "the electric company." I assume this is so kids didn't get confused and think he was talking about the TV show.

  • @jhillst

I was thinking about that too!

  • What a rude nerd on the phone!

  • bert forgot to pay his electricity bill hahaha

  • CLASSIC! ERNIE AND BERT ROCK!

  • WHATS THE IDEA CALLING ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, HEY WHO IS THIS ANYWAY... CAUSE IM GOING TO SEE TO IT THAT YOU DONT SLEEP FOR A WEEK~!!!

    LMAO

  • Oscar: WHO IS THIS?!

    Ernie: Uh...it's Bert.

    lmao

  • If my memory is correct this is from an episode where everyone (full cast) experiences a power outage.

  • I believe Ernie called Oscar he got in trouble.

  • Ernie, you jerk!

  • Don't you have a battery powered raido?

  • @beaver371 uhh its the 80s

  • Ernie got Bert in troubble saying it was Bert and it was really Ernie.

  • I would've said Big Bird

  • Why would you say Big Bird?

  • Ernie and Bert blew a fuse, Ernie called Oscar, and Oscar blew a fuse!

  • I love them both, they are simply amazing!

  • BTW, thanks for uploading this sketch in English.

  • Man, did Oscar blew a fuse! I hope Bert has insurance, or better yet, E-Surance lol!

  • Well, jonnytbirdzback, worry your little head no more. applejax2006 and MarshalGrover both already posted the sketch from 1969 where Ernie and Bert are fighting over the TV, record player, radio and the blender and they both blew a fuse with two different audios instead of just one.

  • I already noticed!

  • @kungfujiapple Bert maybe Ernie meant a battery powered one.

  • holy shit, I have never heard Big Bird that pissed off!

  • oh, wait, that was Oscar, lol

  • That's because Carrol Spinney does both Big Bird and Oscar.

  • Needs to invent a flashlight with a battery in it or a burnt candle in the event of a blackout at night!

  • 0:47 i didn't know Bert could turn his head all the way around like an owl

  • i will be uploading 'sesameguy's version' of the appliance war from the first season,so please be patient and stay tuned to my channel.

  • bert and ernie forever!!!!!! lmfao!!!!

  • They should call CON EDISON!

  • I'm searching for a Bert and Ernie skit where Ernie is preparing to take a bath

and he brings things that have nothing to

do with taking a bath. Some things he brings are an umbrella, just in case it starts raining in the house( which it does) and a bowling ball in case someone needs to stop by and borrow a bowling ball( someone actually does) Does anyone remember this. Please post it if you do.

  • Try doing a search for "ernie umbrella bowling".

  • I remember that one. One of the things Ernie brought was a flashlight in case they blew a fuse and then at the end of the sketch it got really dark and Ernie said they blew a fuse.

  • That one's re-uploaded by "NantoVision".

  • "Hey, Bert? Why are those people breaking in all the windows at Mr. Hooper's store and taking all that stuff out, Bert? Huh, Bert?

  • I'm REALLY REALLY looking for this Bert and Ernie clip from waaay back in the early 80s where ernie was afraid of the blanket in the corner because it looked like a monster. Does anyone have this clip??

  • Look up Cookie Monster can't sleep.

  • Hahaha

  • Classic sketch

  • Anyone have the classic when Ernie and Bert blow the fuse after turning on all the appliances? Love their eyes in the dark and the scuffling of shoes in that one

  • I've heard of that one. The eyes-on-the-black-background bit reminds me of the Simpsons!

  • i will be uploading 'sesameguy's version' of the appliance war from the first season,so please be patient and stay tuned to my channel.

  • That sketch is already uploaded by "MarshalGrover" and "SesameStreet".

  • HA! Ernie called Caroll Spinney and Spinney is pissed off and rude saying "Who is this calling" rudely. This is too funny!

  • Boy! Was Oscar pissed off!

  • Oh this was SOO rude!

  • Moral of the story is: Always have batteries around in case of such emergencies.

  • this is cute what season is this?

  • Obviously from Season 7.

  • This skit is too funny!

  • Hey, I think this is now the second official SS skit where the "E" on Ernie's bed is missing!! What's up with that?!

  • Bert: Ernie, YA CANT LISTEN TO YOUR I POD CUZ THE IPOD NEEDS ELECTRICITY AND YOU SCREWED UP THE BATTERIES ON IT A LONG TIME AGO JUST LIKE THE TV SET AND THE COMPUTER and THERES A BLACKOUUT

Ernie: Hmm I think I'll call Oscar maybe he knows something about it

    Riing:GET LOST CREEP !Zaap POP!

Ernie: Hey bert its ok I know who caused the Blackout, Oscar ate the fusebox

Bert: WILL YOU QUIT BOTHERING OSCAR AND GET TO BEEED

  • LOL!

Or maybe if Ernie wanted to watch a DVD...

Ernie: How about we watch a DVD?

Bert: Ernie, you cannot watch DVDs because the television set and the DVD player both need electricity. You can't even watch videotapes because VCRs also need electricity.

  • I wish Jim Henson was still around so these ideas can be reality.

  • Yeah. I know that typically with new E&B segments, Frank Oz reprises the role of Bert, but in other cases Eric Jacobson does as good a job. Then there was the remake of the "La-La-La" song with the new puppets lip-synching to the old voice track.

  • I know. :)

  • I wish they did that more often.

  • With my Ipod I recharge it on the computer.

It can work without power for a little while before it needs recharging. Funny how the phone was the only electric thing still working.

  • Basic phones that just plug into the wall aren't really "electric", so they don't need electricity to run. That's why the instructions that come with cordless or VOIP phones warn you to always have a regular phone to use in case of emergency if there's a power failure.

  • If they don,t need electricity to run then there is no point in having them plugged in.

  • Maybe it worked differently in the late 60s?

  • Nope, even in a blackout, a regular phone always worked then, and it always works now...unless the phone line itself is cut.

  • Remember too in Jurassic Park when Ray Arnold was trying to call Nedry's people when he turned the power off when Arnold tried he said "Phones are out too."

  • nope.. nowadays people uses digital phone aka VoIP. so if electricity is down, line goes down too and you won't even be able to dial 911. unless it's analog phone. :)

  • Actually this segment wasn't from the late 1960s; it was from the 1980s

  • If this were made in the 2000s, Ernie would be using a cell phone to call Oscar! THAT would explain the calling scene

  • @RebelM87 There were no ipods back when this was made.

  • I don't remember Oscar being in this skit.

  • Now I see why Bert doesn't usually appear with Oscar.

  • 'PLEEASE GO TO SLEEP!!'

    Bert always rocked!

  • Well, it's not as though Bert would have gotten any sleep that week anyway.

  • If they made this today, I'd picture instead of a radio, Ernie would say "How about we go on the Internet, Bert?" and Bert would explain that the computer needs electricity, and that instead of a record, Ernie'd want to listen to a CD but the stereo needs electricity, and Ernie would call Oscar on a cell phone (that'd make more sense for using a phone in a blackout!)

  • Your updates make sense in theory, but there *are* battery-powered CD players and computers nowadays. Ernie'd probably say somethinh like "I *told* you we needed to get a laptop, ol' buddy..." ;-)

P.S. I've lived through an 8-day blackout after Hurricane Hugo came through...but still had working phone lines at home, believe it or not.

  • Ah. Maybe the battery would've been charging on their laptop? And I guess they just have an electricity-powered stereo in their den for the CDs and not a battery-powered CD player.

And Oscar might know who the caller was because he has Caller I.D.!

  • Yeah. I don,t think Oscar would think it,s Bert because Ernie said it in his real voice.

  • That's a good point. It was a little surprising how Oscar got angry that Ernie called him in the middle of the night since Oscar is a grouch and grouches like Oscar probably love getting bothered/angry at things. So I'm sure after Ernie got him angry, Oscar was probably hoping that it would happen again soon.

  • I,m surprised the phone was the only thing that worked.
