he was around for so long and I never knew anything about him, except that he was a guitar maker? or that there were guitars named after him. I knew nothing more. how did I miss this? that is criminal. meanwhile I had to suffer through soooooooo much crap on the top 40, No wonder why I stopped listening to music. Now I will never stop. I love youtube. thank you for posting this!!!!! I think you might have just saved my soul. :>)
LP was a sharp businessman, endorsements make money. nothing wrong with that Joe Pass didn't like his Ibanez. Fender currently endorse some truly dire rock guitarist - what do they care? pick up my comments from word ten, that's what I care about.
I think the recording industry would have got there without him.
To wake up at 93 is an accomplishment, but to play a gig on a weekly basis? Incredible. One of the greatest music legends; even aside from all of his other accomplishments, just his invention of multi-tracking alone would have been one of the major contributions to recorded music. What a talented gentleman.
the guys in his 90's --we can only hope to live so long--he brought guitars and guitar playing techniques to a whole new level in music-a true explorer who believed and loved what he could pass on to us all-he should have been recognized to be greater than what he was ---And in time i think he will to those who know greatness.
kick this asshole aliceband2 out. He ist just taling shit on many videos without having any postings himself. We don´t need people like him here. Something must be wrong in his head.
Not much genius, dear trolls. Just a sack of corn. There are and always were so many better guitarists. From the start there was George Barnes.
Check out Buzz Evans, Roy Lanham, Phil Baugh, and perhaps slightly more accesable to fans of Les Paul, Neil le Vang, and Buddy Merrill all on YouTube.
Les came up with a plank of wood with pickups on it, Gibson designed the guitar you know and love, I don't think Les even liked it. I relish a quip made by Dizzy but I dare not repeat it here.
@aliceband2 not to mention that Les pioneered many ideas for recording sound and music, without him, we probably wouldnt have the music recording capabilities that we have today, and of course he liked the les paul or he wouldnt have given it his namesake and used it in so many shows. TROLLFAIL
@aliceband2 Not much genius? Are you referring to Les Paul's entire career or? just this video. I cannot say that there are better guitarists or not. I do know that LP said he really looked up to Django. He was fabulous too.
You can see the arthritis. If you ever heard Les describe teaching himself to play all over again after arthritis, it'd tear your heart out. Third time in his life--same thing after the car wreck, where he told the docs to fuse his shattered elbow in guitar-playing position! The guy just wouldn't quit.
I can't beleive I hadn't heard this until recently. He is truly amazing. I'm not saying that because he made the solid-body electric guitar, or easier ways to produce and have music. He was a pure genuis when it came to playing as well. It's actually really good. R.I.P. Les Paul, and; Thanks for your creations and gifts to the people, especially the music.
Les paul guitars are overpriced, delicate, and a sound that makes mediocre guitar playing sound good. The greats of rock and country always end up playing a Fender, or something like a Fender. Les Paul may have invented the electric guitar, but to me it was just a prototype. Les, RIP
@jaxson27 we all have opinions. I feel that most country guys play a fender or something like that cuz of the twang, they want that highend tinny sound, where as most gibson les pauls that ive come across, can be bright, but in most cases are mellow and have a heavy chunky sound. Its all Humbucker, not single coil pickups. His guitars can be overpriced, but imo its quality. fenders are just as expensive, If you dont have money you can always buy a mexican strat, or a korean epiphone, for $300.
He played right until he passed. Now that is a legend! He can never be erased from music history. He invented music as we know it. anyone who says other wise obviously don't know anything about music. Les Paul was the most Important man in History and he will be truely missed . There cannot be another Les Paul
hes 93! hes obviously not going to be able to play like he did when he was 30,40,50,60
This man created electric guitars, so be thankfull he did, or else you would have no "good" music...whatever you consider good music....in your case, probably nickelback haha
Wow. I only wish I could do anything that well when I am 93. I never would have thought of putting the Tennessee Waltz melody over a boogie woogie bass.
This guy doesn't play with the same kind of mobility as he once had. (He's 93!) But he still understands music and he still understands guitar playing! And he still has the passion for guitar playing it appears! Keep on rockin', Les!

Blind hero worship is a stupid thing.

even at 93 he could blow away pretty much any modern guitarist with his eyes closed.

my daddy saw him perform many times--wish I could've even just once.

Mein Gott, Ernst, I am entitled to my opinion. A nice brown shirt would go well with your Burns.
