Worked on this video March '84. Long day. Stage built on risers on one side of soundstage and "audience" area in the other. The car didn't run, so we pushed it into place. One Chapman crane, with all of us pulling it up and down. Stacy was a trouper. No complaints. The video was made by High 5 Productions. The director, Bud Schaetzle, went on to direct Garth Brooks' big stadium videos. The cameraman, Robert Brinkmann, later married actress Mena Suvari. Mena was 5 years old when we shot this.
@Velodynamic Yeah man, I agree. It does look fake. The instrument has been set up to explode on impact by removing the screws, so they probably used a dummy.
for some reason synthesizers became out of style for rock in the late 80's to 90's , because of like great bands like g n,r n stuff that didnt need it, n grunge period. etc. but now i think they can get back into em cause 80's music is missed.
In Atlanta we had a radio station called Album 88. 88.5 played the best New Wave music, commercial radio played the shitty music,.Sunday's nights 88.5 had a show called "the best of britain" the music was amazing.Boy do i miss the 80's.
You can say that really about any era of music. There are a lot of elements of baroque, classical, jazz, 50's, 60's, 70's all rolled into the 80's. Music is constantly evolving. But the 80's was a great time for music no doubt it.
I can't believe Stacey Q has for an alternative voice! She has turned more cutesy-girlie bop girl tune after getting out of SSQ! She must have forgotten her falsetto in this song I think. Looks like Madonna has a contender before then. I love Stacey Q in SSQ rather than being Stacey Q alone. Sad enoguh the band didn't click so far.
looks like some folks know. It took me years to find this also. Very sentimental. This was the 80s band that I remembered and had on tape but nobody knew what I was talking about. Back when she came out as Stacy Q I was so excited then the music was a let down after SSQ. I miss electronic music that has melodies and is not much mindless techno.
I forgot all about this song until I was going through some of my 80's music books today. I remember when this song was playing every time I turned MTV on; in the good old days when they actually played music.
OMG....I have been looking for this song for years. For some reason I thought the band was called SST but after going to an 80s movie page to see if the name of the movie this was in would appear,I then IMDB'd the movie and voila my 17 yr hunt is over....THANK YOU
Love this video. We used to play it quite a bit at a nightclub in Atlanta back in '84.
Trivia: SSQ stood for Stacey Swain, and the Q was an homage to "Q" from the James Bond films.
Both Stacey and Jon St. James (her producer/bandmate) were very nice, down to earth people when we did a track date with Stacey in '86 in Pittsburgh, PA. I remember running over to the grocery store to get her some snacks for the upcoming plane ride to wherever they were heading next (chocolate pop tarts).
Did you know that Jon St. James(Stacey's Producer) was the engineer for Berlin and was instrumental in developing their sound, at his own studio in Fullerton, CA?
OMG that is so awesome. I just recently found out about these guys but it seems to be impossible to fins anyofthier stuff anywhere. i really like thier some walkman on...
I have "Screaming in My Pillow" as well, but it's too inappropriate to post here. Do you have an e-mail address that can handle a big file (i.e. GMail)?

@MidnightNSavannah There's actually a new show on Album 88 called Synthicide that plays a lot of new wave/synth-pop/electro-pop and such.

i'm tired of people trying to make 80's style music today...come up with your own shit and enjoy REAL SYNTHCORE likes this that was already made!!

@dong604 I fully agree. Many are stealing these greats and butchering them. They need to get some talent and do something original instead.

Damn! Love it! Just proves that the 80's was a time for music innovation. Everything we hear now are just spin-offs of what the bands did back then.

Compare this music to the song they did in "Return of the Living Dead". That was pop/dance/punk. Like 2 different bands. That's a good thing!

That would be the Jupiter 8, that was the main keyboard Jon used. The solo was done on that, by V.T. (John Van Tongren)
