15 DAY ATHEIST CHALLENGE. Day 5: Friend and Family Reaction.

It has never affected me having or keeping friends. In the beginning (for the first few years after I spoke up), I was yelled at and told I was going to hell whenever family got angry. Also, to keep that fact a secret unless I shame family or endanger my social/school/college chances/relationships. Right now their stance is that I'll come back to my religion at some point in my life. Or so they so they think.

@ThreeofThree I'm sorry you have to go through that. I understand that the state of Texas is like an epicenter of atheist/theist debate. Especially regarding education. I just recently came out fully to my mother as an atheist and she hasn't spoken to me since. It's been a little over a week and I'm starting to get worried.

"Fundamental"...That's the point for me... Being too outspoken about a belief would make me feel like the religious fundamentalist I don't care for... Thankfully my friends don't fall into that bracket...

Did I lose any friends when I became/was an atheist?

I had nothing else to go on. Like I said, IAMWA. I was not allowed to watch the church channels (study the word of god). I wanted so desperately to understand, that, if my parents were so opposed to the messiah, then what was it that made them say, "Yep! The Messiah is Fiction!"..???

The only friends I had were Hoods, Pot Heads, Satan's Sluts, and Runaways.

I keep to myself, yet I go to Town Hall Meetings, Eat at Restaraunts, etc

@ClockNumerology Once again, it sounds like you had a rough time. Nobody should be held back from knowledge, and the study of ancient myths is a very enriching look into cultures of the past. But, nonetheless, they are myths and should be treated as such.
