Yes, im from long beach also. And I hear all sorts of things. Im glad you havent experienced what I have and what others have too. Thats why I decided to post this video. When I go outside of long beach, I experience the same thibg too. But mostly in long beach, where there are a lot of cambodians.
I've also never heard anyone call Cambodians ghetto , uneducated , and whatever else you said , lol . I don't know where you guys are from , but here in Long Beach , we are PROUD Cambodians . Also , people think I'm Filipino >.> LOL .
Never have I EVER been embarrassed to be Khmer ! Wtf ! -.- Here's what I say .. Khmer pride world wide . Most of the 'popular' people at my school are Khmer .. THEN there are the s'dikes >.> LOL .
Glad u made this video not all Cambodians are dark skin, I get put on just from my mates cousins saying my mates Cambo French and his 2x darker than me, so I get called a viet instead like jooyyyy...
I think you made a great video. This is the truth and Cambodian-American should be proud of the strong heritage and culture that we have. Most Cambodians never hesitate to tell others that they are mixed w/ other ethnicity. I have many friends who claim they are half Thai and the only truth to the matter was that they were born at the border of Thailand. We should be like other culture, where they are not ashamed of their heritage. As Khmers, we need to create our own unique identity.
I feel that more people should start looking at others as a person first before placing cultural standards or misconceptions on them. I don't think of race as a means to define the kind of person you are, it's more of what you make of your culture that shapes you into what kind of person you want to be. Ok, great, I'm Cambodian. That doesn't mean I'm a total jack ass... I'll just be a jack ass if I felt like being one, not because I am Cambodian.
I think many Cambodians are ashamed of themselves because they don't have pride in the country since it's not developed and hasn't progressed. Also b/c they see that some people are associating Cambodians with those stereotypes of being ghetto, uneducated, etc. and would rather ignore their culture and be ignorant rather teach other people how rich our culture is, how kind our people are, and how beautiful the country is. They can't appreciate/understand the country b/c they've never been there.

Many are embarrassed because they are uneducated about their roots and the country itself.
