  • Bob's still got it and guys like that always will. A local friend of mine, Charlie Kulp "The Flying Farmer" was constantly harrassed his last few years of doing airshows until he was finally forced to hand over his license because of those FAA snobs. That was Charlie's living that they took away and he was and is still the best pilot I know. Ever so cautious and perfect safety record at 82+ years old doing airshows and flight training all his life!

  • the faa were idiots and according to rumor is that bob hit on one of the faa inspectors wife and he got pod and yanked his liscence. they got him on some idiotic deal. faa are a bunch of dimwits.

  • @straighttailpilot Gee, I didn't see anything like that in his book, but as Bob was described to me by those who met and worked with him during his visits to Aus as a gentleman and as everyone knows, when a gentleman encounters beauty, be it an airplane, a painting or an attractive woman, he is duty bound to express his admiration. If your story is true, I think no less of Mr Hoover.

  • @planesounds I cannot reassure you of that happening. I do remember several pilots talking about that when it happened but it is unfounded that is why I said rumor. according to the rumor again is that during that airshow they got him on something like dangerous low level flight or something to that effect. ridiculous. I respect Mr. hoover incredibly and it saddens me that FAA would do something like that. I disdain faa lol. but at the end I am glad Mr. Hoover flew again a true ace of the skies!

  • It's not easy to fly the T-28 aerobatically. Its engine is angled downward a few degrees, making good aileron rolls virtually impossible. Plus, its torque factor is quite high and it has very limited zero/negative G time.

Once again, Bob Hoover shows his mastery!

  • Xzqzq - that was Tex Johnson who rolled the 707 and I don't believe any executives were on board. Bob Hoover is most famous for his dead stick commander displays and aileron rolls while pouring tea without spilling a drop.

  • I love the story of Bob Hoover rolling the prototype 707, with airline executives aboard, to demonstrate how strong the airframe was.... wish I had been there !!

  • If God is a pilot then surely no less a person than Bob Hoover carries his j**kstrap. Let's be correct here. The miserable m.f.s at the FAA pulled his Medical Certificate. You wonderful Cobbers (I'm just a mere Pommie Bastard) gave him back a Medical Certificate and validated his licence/se so he was legal anywhere except in US airspace. Eventually he got the FAA medical back as well. I remember an ex E.T.P.S pilot (Norman K.) telling us even a brick will fly given (i) wings + (ii) 'nuff speed

  • But it did bring him over to do a few airshows in Australia. And several thousand Aussies got to see his magic in the air. I am grateful for that.

  • @vid30nasty Bob is 88 now and I'd still trust his flying!
