@AtariMaxiToriyama I believe it's called "content". It's the message in the song... It's comforting to the believer, and a lot of us need that comfort. Knowing that God's grace is there for you is a very powerful message... I'm guessing a lot of people relate to it ;-) . AND, I'm a sucker for "Howie songs"... I love his voice!
@texjoy777 Sure, but a lot of songs have a similar message. This one just happens to have a bland melody in addition to a good but not unique message.
@AtariMaxiToriyama Ok, I think THIS could be classified as a difference of opinion... IMO, the melody is not bland. And true, there are a TON of songs that touch on the subject of grace... but this one is my favorite(other than "Amazing Grace" that is!). It really helped me through a tough time in my spiritual walk, and I'm guessing many of Legacy Five's fans have been touched by it too. Whatever failings you may think the song has, people are still requesting it... so it must be working!
If I were to say, "The melody is bland," then that would be an opinion.
If I were to say, "The melody bores me," then that wouldn't be an opinion. Not wanting to be presumptuous, I shall, instead of saying the melody is bland, say that the melody makes me dull. This, I think, puts an interesting spin, for we may now consider the philosophical reason for why the song seems very dull to me, while others clamor to hear it.
@AtariMaxiToriyama In all honesty (and really, no offence meant), I don't really have the extra time in my day to get into a deep philosophical discussion! I love the song, I'm sorry that you don't, and I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree ;-) Thanks!
@texjoy777 You had time to write these comments, it seems to me you have plenty enough time for a philosophical conversation. I'll tell you what annoys me a lot, though: People who, under the guise of formal kindness, prematurely end a discussion because they feel like there is some sort of argument occurring. If one cannot talk about the meaning of the word "opinion" without becoming upset, then how can he function in a society based upon that selfsame thing?
@AtariMaxiToriyama I'm not trying to aviod an argument. I'm just not interested in going deeper into the issue. I've already spent more time talking about it than I care to, and I have too many pressing and far more important things to do than to continue to carry on a conversation that really leads back to the same conclusion: You have your reasons for disliking the song, I have my reasons for loving it. I think the simplest thing to do is to, as I said "Agree to disagree".
I love this song!!! Such an encouragement!!

Can't imagine why this is the band's most requested song. Maybe they just like the baritone's voice. I do.

@texjoy777 Well, the difference works like this:
If I were to say, "The melody is bland," then that would be an opinion.
If I were to say, "The melody bores me," then that wouldn't be an opinion. Not wanting to be presumptuous, I shall, instead of saying the melody is bland, say that the melody makes me dull. @texjoy777 But I agree with you. And you agree with me. So what, exactly, are we disagreeing on?
