I have always felt this composition has a bittersweet quality to it; the joy of the many variations on the theme seems to coincide with the tinge of sorrow. This is especially true at the 1st violin high notes beginning at 4:02 then through the end of the piece. Some of the later versions, especially the "romanticized" versions of the Canon in D really play this up. It's nice to hear more of the joy than the sorrow comes through in the original composition and performance.
@bsm12i1 (Part 1) Violin music is written in the trebble cleff and, simplistically speaking, has the same letter notes as any other instrument. The lines are, from bottom to top, E G B D and F, and the spaces are, from bottom to top F, A, C, and E. Middle C is 2 notes below the bottom line of the trebble cleff and is always written in with a ledger line. 2 ledger lines below is A. G is just below that, which is the low string on your violin. Open D is 1 note below the trebble cleff.
@bsm12i1 (Part 2 of 2. Read part 1 first.) Open A is the 2nd space up on the trebble cleff, and open E is the 4th space up. So, a violin's tuned in 5ths .. G D A E. The G is below middle C. The D is 1 note above middle C. The A is a 6th above middle C, and is the 2nd space. The E is an octave plus a 3rd above middle C and is the 4th space on the trebble cleff. The notes in between are line space line space, etc. E-1st line, F-1st space, G-2nd line, A-2nd space, B-3rd line, etc.
Just beautiful....how wonderful to be able to hear it played as the maestro intended. Being able to follow the sheet music makes me appreciate the musicians talent even more. Thanks for posting.
i suggest everyone can listen to pachelbel's ciaconas for organ. (they are available on my channel). His ciaconas are very beautiful too . Pachelbel is genius.
@squirrelskickbutt752 Actually, violins were tuned to a different, lower frequency during Baroque times. This version of Canon in D utilizes a baroque pitch and temperament from the time of Pachelbel. The piece is in D Major, but at A=415.3 Hz, NOT today's standard of 440 Hz.
Why no comments? so surprising ...so amazingly beautiful it always brings me to tears of joy...if ever I marry it will be the wedding march...made in heaven...
