  • Great Speech I love it

  • Another American puppet. A monk should never have an effect on politics or globally.

  • I Love The Video It Can Increase My Knowledge He shares his thoughts on the necessity of friendship, altruism, family, selflessness, and religion,

  • Good, I like that you share this video, I wish success always He shares his thoughts on the necessity of friendship, altruism, family, selflessness, and religion, from the perspectives of such wide-ranging disciplines as education

  • Your Video Is Very Useful Sharing He shares his thoughts on the necessity of friendship, altruism, family, selflessness, and religion, from the perspectives of such wide-ranging disciplines as education, social psychology and the neurosciences.

  • my God, how could those guys sitting there listening to this stuff for an hour? it's nothing but just repeating couple of sentences....basically he's say only one thing: respect others in the way just as you wish them to respect you. But how could him extend such a simple ideology to such a long speech and the audience were listening so carefully? it doesn't make any sense to me

  • @worldmeus He gets many undeserved sycophants. If people actually looked up the old social model of Tibet that he wishes to revive then they would think twice (basically it was a nation where slaves served the monks and the Dalai Lama is an autocrat).

  • wonderful lecture!

  • do we really need to hear this kind of people to find the goodness? are we all bunch of morons? come onnnnnnnnnnn

  • I never understand why people look up to thy, high holiness the dalai lama.

He's full of shit to be honest.

  • @teawead Err, what?

  • i dont like the dalai lama he is evil

  • @DrPunjabi Oh the irony...

  • Thank you.... Wonderful to be able to follow the lecture, and to be able to read the word as well... (For those who don't know what I am speaking about: under the video you see symbols. The last one looks like a mobile, click on that and you can read what has been said...). What a wonderful job. Thank you for taking the effort to write the words. So easy to understand it now. Blessings to you all....

  • not to take any sides but if we all experienced what the dalai is speaking of, there could be great growth within humanity...

  • Boeddhisme is van oorsprong geen godsdienst maar een geloof, een manier van respectvol samen-leven met je omgeving. Het is gebaseerd op het oergeloof van de gnostiek. Modern boeddhisme is echter verchristelijkt, zoals bijna alles in onze maatschappij. Zodoende heeft men overleeft. De Dalai Lama weet.

Nu is de tijd gekomen om je eigen zoektocht te beginnen en terug te keren naar de bron om gnosis te hebben. Gnosis =weten. Weten =jezelf kennen. Jezelf kennen =compassie hebben. Compassie =vrede.

  • long live hh 14 dalai lama

  • he is a fake, he sold tibet for cash

  • @spacetraveller2521 something you just cant prove.

  • working on my biology lab write up while listening to this. How strange...

  • Wow, what a show.

  • Max Rafael Waller wrote "We all make mistakes. What should be the response? Should it be open to understand or narrow minded and draconian?"

  • how do you watch this its so long

  • how do you watch this

  • "Buddha's blessing must come through human hand, human action".

    Sadhu, sadhu, sadhu. :)

  • What the world needs now, is compassion, sweet compassion.

  • How I wish that the many self-proclaimed 'enlightened masters' who seem to pop up everywhere on the net these days, could take a look at this. This man exudes a natural, unaffected humility. None of this "I am awakened, and you can be too, just purchase my product" nonsense. The Dalai Lama might not be perfect, but he is nevertheless a great being. His humility is a symptom of much wisdom, IMO.

  • He is a great man

  • It's a shame this comments section is so loaded with trolling and that the featured comments have nothing to do with the video itself.

  • Excellent!

  • I love Dalai Lama

  • DEAR H.H. DALAI LAMA"! PLEASE BROKER THE PEACE TALKS BETWEEN ISRAEL AND PALESTINIANS !!

  • Its very hard to understand him fully, I think he should make more use of his translator :S

  • @tedoymisojos they have put subtitles for people who can not get used to accents! :)

  • Religion aside. His political idea suggests violence and destruction.

  • @dilegentelectron LoL, No cX He's a buddhist. A buddhist does not use violence. Some of them wont even hurt or eat animals. LoL u fail at life

  • @NativeNorwegian you are really naive . the world is not as pure as you think .

  • @NativeNorwegian Don't tell me what is buddhism. I'm from China. There are countless temples there. How old are you? 15 , 16? learn more . think more. I don't need you to tell me buddhists don't eat animals you are being foolish very foolish.

  • @dilegentelectron you are behaving like 15 or 16yr old. The problem is your neo-cortex cannot accept that Dalai lama is a good person. It's because your mind and million others has been trained by chinese politburo and ill-will you harbor cannot go away. If Dalai Lama is 'you are the son of your father...' you will also challenge that... second, you are using subversion tactics.. stating some irrelevant and quoting which is not required.. these techniques dont work on sane people.

  • @dilegentelectron Ohh... So thats why ... Youre a racist chinese dude. But actually, it is you who should learn more. just search on wikipedia ''Buddhism'' or Dhalai Lama, then you'll find out what buddhism really is.

  • @NativeNorwegian what make you think I am racist ? aren't you a racist against the Chinese? I know exactly what buddhist is? Why dalai lama just gave up his political power last year? and you people had kept saying he was a religous figure for 20 years ? do you support racial segregation? what about the innocent life lost in the tibetan riot? and BTW those murderers were mainly the monks cuz we took their privilege away . they were the masters of the tibetan peasants.

  • @dilegentelectron misquoting anyone is part of subversion and political tactics used by Nazis. spreading hate against tibetan holy figure and thus demeaning their culture is a part chinese propagandist use. Infact, they want tibetans and their culture non-existent in this world. pure cultural genocide.

    well done, dilegentelectron.

  • @dharmyoddha pure cultural genocide? stop using this expression. it's callled globalization. the han Chinese are losing their own culture too. idiot.

  • Perhaps a student would enjoy adding a subtitle for hard of hearing and sign language. Thank you STANFORD every life matters no matter how small that you for voting P.E.A.C.E. Please Educate All Children Everywhere forward the LOVE along if you CARE ONE LOVE CO~EQUAL for MOTHER EARTH immunity for abuses couldn't be worse stop bullying those who act upright and show more love LIVELY UP OUT OF SIGHT

  • <3

  • How can ANYONE dislike, and therefore disrespect the Dalai Llama

  • 1:18:40 how do we educate our children, or how to make compassionate human being..

again Dal Lai Lama's response didn't quiet meet the expected answer.. He said only through the secular way, because religious faith can bring complexity. So with 3 factors, common sense, science, and warm-heart(?) .. and after that, he again emphasized compassion by means of dialogue and STILL DIDN'T explain "how to educate to make someone compassionate" he rather explained the details on how to be compassionate

  • As far as i have understood the Dalai Lama on other occasions he actually means warm heart physically, that means you feel a tender warmth inside your upper torso&led it spread. One reason why he didn't go much into the howto's is maybe, that he doesn't want to be recognised as a Buddhist missionary man, because the actual training is according to Buddhist compassion training...too specific for a broad multireligious audience.if your interested, look up the word Tonglen or Mettameditation

  • @agnostoatomo I agree, And his Instructions on compassion arent Mapped out because he want's you to find your own way to an enlightenment through your own life experiences, Not through his. :)

  • @Dnash777 i agree with you partially. On the other Hand there are many means to go your own way and the Buddha gave extended teachings on these...there is a path to go of course and not MY way,but universal ways to contentment. The journey and the grade and way we adopt the understanding of the Buddhas is individual, but the "Landscape of Enlightenment" isn't.But maybe my comment is just a clarification for myself and clear to you anyway.Than:Thanx for reminding me&all happiness there is for you!

  • @RiseofBane You can only teach it to others by being compassionate/loving within your self, if your looking for a how to manual with step by step instructions you came to the wrong place.

  • 1:14:20 "When u see poor ppl , u feel like helping , but u dont. is it merely motivating sense of compassion or is there other factor" ?

Dal lai lama again didn't quiet correctly respond.. he responded that we will feel stronger compassion if we can't do anything because of situation (time or jobs u have).. He needs to say if there is any other factor than just the compassion..

  • 1:10 hmm. Dal lai Lama didn't really explain on "having compassion might distract us to survive on real world".. at the end he called the question ignorance.. he answered how the compassion can work in non-violent way.. But that doesn't fully explain having compassion can help u survive.

  • @RiseofBane Compassion helps you survive in the way of not mixing into the world and just giving in to wordly temptations, and in that it makes you a stronger person.

  • 1:01:15 I agree. I was laughing so hard, and tear came

  • hm.. from 38minutes, I can't really understand his english.. sorry dal lai lama.

  • Dal Lai lama's speech has power to make me focus very hard. Because he speaks the truth i think.

  • He was activated by the c.i.a just like the current pope...

  • heads up! cute guy at 12:14 :))

  • people are so quick to draw conclusion about this man or anyone else, because their minds are blocked by their biases and minds are too closed.

  • @2arunout this is a quickly drawn conclusion as well...

  • @herrbayer He is not insulting the fact that people are drawing quick conclusions... He is insulting the reasoning behind the conclusions. The only way your reply would make sense is if you think he thought other peoples' minds aren't open enough because his mind isn't open enough... that would be just silly.

  • Mark 10:6 However, from [the] beginning of creation ‘He made them male and female

Romans 1:20 For his invisible [qualities] are clearly seen from the world’s creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship, so that they are inexcusable; 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify him as God nor did they thank him, but they became empty-headed in their reasonings and their unintelligent heart became darkened.

  • Compassion should alway be with pride, but pride in terms of self satifaction, rather than concerns of who your self is view by everyone else.

This is our and everyones right

  • Wow wonderful conference with His Holiness! thanks lot to all.

  • yoda!

  • 从政治上来说,达赖还是很值钱的,是和中国谈判的筹码,但是真实的中国是不容他乱说的,希望大家用自己的眼睛去看中国。妄加臆断事不目见耳闻,而臆断其有无,可乎?(Old Chinese language,it means:To understand the truth, you should use your own eyes and do not speculate)

  • First,I would like to admit that I am a Chinese.Maybe there does exsit some kind of prejudice, but,I do feel that this guy makes me disgusted.

  • @tednapoleonking What exactly did Dalai Lama do to you or chinese people that make you feel disquested?

  • @oneviwatara he said that we should not invade tibet and take their resources and that kicking him out of china was wrong. for these things he is damnable.

  • "All religion is stemming from basic human good quality. Basic human values are secular values." - The 14th Dalai Lama

  • Look at all the peoples faces ,no glow no life where's the light, that shines from within? They're there to find Life's answer and it isn't here.

  • Amazing Video and message

  • I'm very confused how anyone could think wrongly about the man. I just saw him yesterday in Toronto - what an experience

  • @littlewingsfly wow! Thats the most confusing thing ive ever read!

  • great video

  • The Dali Lama is a political tool created by the CIA against China.

  • @cake89 I disagree

  • @cake89 so much IGNORANCE!!!!!!!!!!

  • they have a center for compassion and altruism research!? That's amazing! Haha. I love the Dalai Lama

  • @cheddyrod Post your verifiable source that the Dalai Lama is a tyrant. Who do you define as "these monsters"? Why should Stanford University be ashamed of itself? Character assassination is a tactic typically used by someone who doesn't like another person for personal reasons. Reposting the same comment is not clarifying anything. You should at least attempt to prove the words that you are posting. If the source is verifiable, fine. Otherwise you are a mindless troll with a personal vendetta.

  • @Lisa3679 I am sorry that you live in a cave. US ships were attacked in the Gulf of Tonkin, Lt. Calley killed 500 armed Viet Cong (according to Maj. Powell), Sadam assisted in blowing up the Twin Towers and Sadam has WDMs. If you believe all these things then you will believe that the 14th Dalai Lama is a saint and a man of peace. My source is certainly verifiable.

  • @cheddyrod Why can't you answer 2 simple questions and post your verifiable sources? I did not ask you anything about US ships being attacked, Lt. Calley killing 500 armed Viet Cong, or Sadam assisting in blowing up the Twin Towers or having WMD's! Can't you keep your focus straight for 500 characters? I do not believe in anything, because I am not believer. My focus is knowing the facts. That is all. Stating all that shit you did does not mean anything. Go stick your head back in the sand.

  • @Lisa3679 If you believed those four proven examples that I gave you. By these four facts gave proof and Americans like you believed them and went to war and slaughtered millions. These four examples were proved by the NSA, FBI, Pentagon, White House and CIA. The persona of the 14th Dalai Lama was created by the CIA. And yes I have proof. I talked to people who were in Tibet after the war. There are Chinese chronicles written in 1959 when the Chinese liberated the Tibetan slaves.

  • @Lisa3679 These stupid Chinese CP will never justify their point of view. they are infamous liar. They have never changed.

  • @Lisa3679 are you lisa simpson?

  • @Lisa3679

Ignore the idiot called ''cheddyrod'' he's clearly a dreamer with no grasp on reality. If Tibetans were ''liberated slaves'' the Chinese wouldn't need a mass flow of ethnic Chinese into the area nor a miltary presence to oppress the population. And the nonsense about the Dalai Lama being a CIA creation is just too ridiculous for words. The Dalai Lama is a tradition which has gone on since long before the CIA was thought of...or even before the USA was thought of.

    The guy's a plonker.

  • @1RationalMind Would you allow a dangerous sect to do as it pleases?

  • @NathanWubs I'm rather unconcerned that he might say "if you believe "X" you can't practice Buddhism in these temples." Religions are often irrational- they all have variations in their irrationality, nothing unusual there.

It was the claim that people in this sect were being denied ID cards for commerce & travel, which are serious violations of individual civil rights that disturbed me greatly. I am not very familiar with this dispute, having just read of it. Why is this sect dangerous?

  • @1RationalMind The sect is dangerous in most of the bhudist minds as it provokes violence. It has done so in the past.

The denial of ID cards for commerce and travel is not very substantial. I have not seen while researching any of this controversies that this has been the case.

However, their religious practices are denied.

Also I think people have the right to ban others from their religious institutions as they are private institutions after all.

  • @NathanWubs I agree is is a simple matter for a religious leader to tell people of a certain belief they may not practice their belief in the religion's buildings- it is private property.

I can see it is a difficult controversy to resolve, especially with China involved in the issue. I would certainly hope the Dalai Lama would not condone the initiation of violence or the withholding of civil liberties. The articles I read & the video I listed did not put him in a good light, obviously.

  • @1RationalMind Of course as detractors never do. That is why I looked up more then just the one side of the story. I like to see both sides before I declare anything.

I always get skeptical when people put down the persecution card and more. Also when they ignore what they have done as well.

  • @NathanWubs "I like to see both sides before I declare anything." Do keep in mind- I stated " I'm no expert, but it certainly seems..." and "This man does not appear..."

Not definitive declarations, rather non-definitive initial assessments of the side I've just been exposed to. Google's output is heavily skewed to the to one side, most likely due to the volume of page hits. You have investigated the issue- do you have a few references that show the other side of it? Thanks.

  • @1RationalMind

There have been of course extremist on both sides. The Dalai Lama himself has spoken out against these extremist.

These people that say this and this happened without having much evidence to back up what they are saying, makes things shaky.

  • Didn't he admit he is a Marxist?

He should fit right in with Stanford. LOL.

  • Keep ur heart open, listen and think

  • Do you think the chinese are better? Chinese solders impregnating tibetan women to eventually get rid of tibetan culture and nationhood doesnt help. At the end all religion or any leader needs an audience. And if humans need it they will get it.

  • @krustyegg keep drinking kool-aid and believe in the CIA.

  • @cheddyrod Do you have any links? I'm curious about this.

  • @rubberritchie My uncle was in Tibet shortly after the war. He was a young Monk and traveled with a small group of monks from his temple. The abbot of the temple advised against the trip, but did not forbid it and only gave them the advise to keep an open mind. In Tibet they practice a different form of Buddhism than we do. What he and his group was absolutely alarming. To put it mildly, the monks in Tibet do not follow the teachings of the Buddha.

  • @cheddyrod Do you think that we should listen to (for example) Angela Merkel, Queen Victoria or Barack Obama? All are leaders of nations that has done terrible things.

  • @cheddyrod sources please.

  • @NathanWubs My uncle.

  • @cheddyrod The Dalai Lama is all about peace. How is he a tyrant?

  • @cheddyrod

Hi, can you provide some dates and places this happened that I can make a search for? I went looking after reading this comment, but couldn't find anything to do with Dalai Lama engaging in slavery, mutilations or amputations.

In what way did he engage in these things, when, and what for?

    Thanks.

  • @Grysham My uncle was in Tibet shortly after the war. Not everything is on the internet and not everything on the internet is factual. If you do a search about the Dalai Lama you will find that he is a paid pawn of the CIA and that is a verifiable fact. If you have access to a very good library, preferably a university library with a very good sociology and history departments, you should be able to find some books that were written by British writers prior to the War.

  • @cheddyrod

I see. Never-the-less, in your previous comment you did say to "check". Doing so will be incredibly difficult if you can't point to any verifiable sources of information and say I should simply go to a university library and find "some books".

Can you mention any specific book titles? Any particular writers in particular? Perhaps some dates and times for events, or names of places?

Slavery for example, where and when was this practised by the Dalai Lama?
