John Wanamaker's is considered the Nations first Department Store, originally opened to the public in 1876 to culminate with the Nations Centenial Expostion which was also being held in Philadelphia. The first store was in fact the old Pennsylvania Railroad train station. Wanamaker purchased it, and named it John Wanamaker's 'Grand Depot' it featured small specialty shops and galleries and a restaurant. Hence the Department store was born.
I was there for this! I was on the third floor right in front! I really hope they put out a CD of this event...it was so nice helping them prepare for this.
AWESOME! I was waiting for someone to post something from this concert! A truly memorable and historic concert. My only hope is that the Philly Orchestra allows the FOWO to release a recording of the performance. My all time favorite Pipe Organ!!!
Thank God the CD is coming out! Already ordered mine
