I think it may coincide with the book numbering system.

Not the book numbering system. The numbers are a bit odd so that floors 100, 200 and 300 in our old stacks are level with floors 1,2, and 3 in our new stacks. Rush Rhees Library got a large addition added on in the 60's.

in Saudi arabic i was in the Movenbeck some thing like that and the elevator there is cleaaaane the floor was like the water we were jumping to do not touch the floor cuz we thought that the floor was full of the water but that was shining !!

Looks exactly like the old stacks elevator at the U of MN before they tore that part of the building down. It still had the original black buttons from when it was installed back in the 40-50's.
