I'm pretty much like you. A PC gamer whose friends play xbl so it kinda pushes me to play xbox too. The only question I have is although I don't play xbox often I'm pretty solid with the controller. I'm much more solid on PC games but generally playing Reach or cod I'm top 2 on the scoreboard. Almost never worse than second for my team. JW is it worth the upgrade for me? I'm a PC gamer at heart and I dominate with k/m. Is it worth the $150 vs a newer gfx card (which I def need on PC [thxbf3])?

I'm leaning towards the GPU. If you can already manage using a gamepad comfortably, the benefit of using a XIM is mixed. It depends on where you play more often, but having a $150 larger GPU budget is the difference between mid-level, best price-to-performance ratio and high-end cards.

The XIM3 runs at the standard USB polling rate of 125Hz. Translation time is quoted at 11ms, so input lag is less than one frame @60fps or around half of the lower limit perceptible by the average human. You're unlikely to feel any mouse lag unless the screen you are using is already fairly slow and on the threshold of you noticing with a gamepad. If you use said screen with PC mouse and can not feel lag, the chance of feeling it with the XIM3 is extremely remote.

i'm willing to bet that the next generation of consoles (except wii U) will either let you plug a mouse and keyboard directly into the system and set up, or Microsoft and Sony will make "their own" version of this XIM3 type of device. 2.) most console players are used to controllers

@Zk2500 yeah if it was an actual device dedicated to the function, but it could easily be built into the system's software. Just like when you plug a usb mouse and keyboard into your laptop it automatically recognizes them. Microsoft makes Windows. . I'm sure they'd be able to copy and paste some code in, and write a little bit of extra to allow for key mapping and sensitivity for the mouse. Just saying it could be done very easily, they just need to do it.

Sony already offers native mouse support with the PS3, but developers need to support it in their games for it to be usable. Given Nintendo's seemingly more open-ended approach to peripherals, I could see them offering a similar setup on their consoles. Unfortunately, Microsoft seem to have developed a fear of being too PC-like after the first Xbox, and they have been steadily moving away from that image ever since. I'm doubtful that will change, but it would be nice if it did.

Keyboard and mouse is the only way I'd ever be tempted to play on a console. I've tried playing at my friends' houses for years but I find it too frustrating to use a controller. If the sensitivity is low enough for me to aim precisely then I can't turn around quickly enough. If it's high enough to turn then I can't hit small targets consistently. It's a pity the xbox doesn't support other USB input devices as standard. I guess Microsoft wouldn't be as rich if they did.

So everyone knows, you can have multiple configurations for the same game which you can change while in game. So you can have it so when you zoom in with RMB it changes the configuration with much more sensitivity so it is just as fast as when zoomed out.

@ABL36 it comes with the needed software for most popular games, but if a new game comes out after you buy it, you will need to update it, or the aiming won't be very precise. You can set all controls yourself anyway, but if you aren't using the right software for the game you're playing, the aiming will be jumpy and may not be usable.

The wording of Treyarch's Security & Enforcement Policy technically puts them in a position where they can ban for any perceivable peripheral advantage between two players, but their reach ends at their own servers and I haven't seen a single case where they've caught someone using an autofire macro, let alone XIM. If you go around boasting, maybe, just maybe they'll manage to do something, but they're relatively powerless to prove much of anything if they aren't handed a confession.

you can fix the ads slow sensitivity by creating a secondary translator, its called COD:BO ADS. create that as your secondary mouse/aim and it fixes it.

As an avid PC player I must say this is rather unfair. Keyboard + mouse is just SO much more responsive and intuitive for FPS games than a controller. It's why you see autoaim features in most console FPS (COD, Halo, I believe Gears has it too) but not in PC games. Microsoft originally intended for PC gamers to be able to play with Xbros, but ended up canning it because the people using the controllers got creamed every time. Either PC gamers are just better, or their controllers are.

@graytesthits I've used a XIM, it feels nothing like PC. You'll be able to do well, but you won't completely dominate like you might think you will. I've played competitive CS and my KD is about 2.4 on the PC version of Black Ops and I didn't do that great on the console version. Auto aim is strong, very strong and can win gun fights. Lag plays a huge role in gun fights and who will win and there is a bunch of other stuff.
