This song always WAS sad for me, but also really like, beautiful. I think it's the melody, and at least for me, the intensity of his voice contrasted with the tinkly piano and bells.

Whatever he IS singing about, he seems pretty passionate about it.

It's a masterpeice.

Also: When Julian says, "Love you guys!" and when they're joking around at the end I get all sad, because they're having so much fun and being so happy but the song is sad, so I feel like it's all some bittersweet memory.

I hope this album sells poorly and is fogotten quickly. Is This It is one of the 20 greatest albums ever made, and Casablancas wrote every one of it's songs, as well as all the songs from the awesome Room On Fire. That's what makes his mediocre solo songs so hard to take. It's as if the 2010 line of BMW's were just unveiled and they looked just like 1970's Ford Pintos. It's like the menu of the greatest steakhouse only offering corn dogs. I don't get it.

Julian is brilliant and through Phrazes he really showed what he can accomplish. The strokes are good but its like comparing a rockband to a symphony composer. The rockband is cooler and gets more fans but the real genius in music is the symphony writer. His goal was to make music like classical music but catchy like mainstream and he did just that which is the best goal any artist can do

If Casablancas finds joy in creating this type of music, then I am happy for him and wish him well. As an artist he marches to the beat of his own drum, and in a way I admire that, but it doesn't mean I have to like the end product. I defended most of the experimental songs of the last Strokes album that many people hated, but I can't defend this.

I'll admit that my criticism is a bit harsh. The first three songs on the album are growing on me, track 6 is cool in a way that reminds me of The Church, and the bonus tracks are descent. It's better than most new music out there. I'd rather hear new stuff from Casablancas that doesn't quit measure up to the old stuff than nothing at all. One can only listen to ITI so many times.
