Very sad. Great idea for a safety and awareness. I have to ride along the road sometimes and am careful because -some- drivers can be idiots. One semi truck driver BLEW HIS AIR HORN at my friend and I while we rode. Thank god we saw him and pointed our horses into a field & that's where they ran. We were all safe, our horses only spooked a few steps, but if we hadn't had them facing the field, we would've ended up in the road.

but hes boarded so we drive alot to see him and i get to see other riders with there horses and i yell at my mom to slow down even more so i can yell hello and see their pretty horse
tragic, absolutely tragic. I keep telling silly riders to wear hi-vis jackets because as a driver I know what a difference it makes. Really annoys me when riders canter on grass verges as well, it goes for us too we don't know what is round the bend and cars do 60mph on country roads so in the time it takes for you to do all the downward transitions and move over its too late. And the modern engines are so quiet the minor roads are a death trap for riders. Be safe always x RIP HOLLY x

I think its a great thing that your doing, a good friend of mine was hit on the side of the rode while riding a horse i loved very very much by a hit and run driver the police never found and I remember the heartache i went through :(
We live in Spain up a mountain with lots of bends. The people that live up the mountain (our neighbours) drive crazy. We have had so many near misses.
We have even visited some of the neighbours too to ask them to slow down but that is taken the wrong way. Don´t know what we can do Tazzsmum. I am sorry to hear about your horse I hope time has healed a little bit for you.
@BREYERKID i did pretty much the same thing when my 1st ever pony died of old age. at least i have the satisfaction of knowing that it was a natural death. if my boy res or any of the other horses i know were hurt by cars, i would track them down and kill them. i always wear high vis jackets, exercise sheets, leg and tail wraps, rein wraps, nosebands, etc. make it as safe as possible. and i salute Tracey and anyone else who's trying to prevent road accidents involving horses.
one of my horses is extremely spooked by motorbikes (because his old owner who neglected him rode a motorbike) and i was riding him down a bridleway and 20 odd motorbikes came it was horrrid he absoloutly freaked luckily they all slowed down and stopped but i had to et on my mums horse and she lead him becuse he was so freaked and could have gotten hurt (but luckily he didnt cus one of the motorbikes broke down so they all had to go th eopposite direction to get sum1
i hate it how some drivers don't give a damn! around where i ride,theres hardly any horse signs which doesn't help ,and the only horse and rider sign is half covered by a over grown tree. :(

My horse was killed by other horses AND a motorbike - the story is i was riding and so was a hunt far off. i cud hear the dogs yapping, and a motorbike came and zoomed into the hunt, scariung the horses aklong the lanes. Then the horses ran into me and my horse and my horse got crushed to death (he was a small welsh mountain)
today, my friend fell off her horse because a motorbike passed on the road beside the field we were riding in. it was weaving between cars and going sooo fast. luckily, nobody was hurt...but what an asshole!!

Its a verry sad thing, even here in the us drivers don't pay attention or have no respect for people on horse back. I've had peopeel come within inches just flying past me an my horses in the past. We make it a habbit to carry cell phoens for peoelw who do thinsg like that an try an get heir tag numbers an report them.
We have even had peopel pass us with onc oming traffic just feet away, an even weave in an out between horses or try to. It can be really dangerous :S.
This is my worst nightmare!! If I have to go on thre roads I always wear my hi viz gear and ride in single file. The one thing that really shocks me is the number of riders in our area (Usually the hunt lot) who don't wear hi viz gear & insist on riding 2 wide around blind bends & refusing to move over. When I was younger & there were less horses on the roads everyone but few slowed down. Now nobody does. Sadly I Think its riders as well as drivers that need educating. Keep up the good work x
I posted your video to my FB page w/over 3800 friends, & 100 are horse people who I pray will post to theirs. I live on a busy country road and its rare for anyone to slow down. Speed limit 60 mph and motorcycle racers have been seen going in excess of 100 mph. The fire department up the road however, will slow down, even if on an emergency run. Sorry for the loss. One of my old horses got hit by a train because some stupid peole thought they would pull down the fencing to the fields there was also 6 other horses who got hit by a train or a car and there was only 15 horses in the field altogether

this is brilliant stuff! I'll ask around the yard I'm at if they know anything about this next time I'm up. We're at the edge of a small village and the main road to get to all the hacks is full of blind corners used by lorries often going at high speeds. I can't take my horse out because he's too spooky and unpredictable. Will spook at almost anything even a crack in the road!
I hope your campaign brings safety to both horse and rider and also brings you some kind of closure. The loss of Holly must be devastating and I know your pain in losing such a close friend as her. Holly is free of pain now but also free to run in fields of green and watch over you every day. She is free to keep her hooves above the grass and fly.

i always stop till horses pass or give a very wide berth as i had my own , the worst example of bad manners and obnoxiousness was a car seeing i had stopped for a horse blew his horn shot down the middle of the road accelerating past the speed limmit ( a driving school car ) if i'd remmembered his name i would have posted it for free advertising for him..

I live in Spain where the drivers seem to even speed up when they go past horses. I ride into the traffic because otherwise they come right up behind the horse so it almost sits on the bonnet and take a long dressage whip to hold out at 90º angle to mark ´my space´. This reminded me of something that happened 30 years ago on Long Island. The usual jackass- young- man in a hotrod showing off on a country road. My horse saved my life and kept the other horse and rider from panicking. In herds, the head mare keeps the young males in line with proper behavior. But what do we humans have?
omg thats so sad my horse got killed by a semi he was in the pasture and a car cut off the semi and the semie flew acros the road into the ditch flew up and hit 4 horses 1 was mine 2 where my uncles and 1 was my litteles sisters 1 of my uncles horses live but cannot be ridden the others died

my frend went out on her horse pilgrim and this driver came up behind her at about 50mph and beeped his horn at her!!! her horse then bolted down a main road on the rong side of the road and all she could do was hold on!!!

One of my horses has a sad story she is called lucy she is a bay connamira. I got lucy from a rescue centre 2 years ago when i was 8.Lucys old owners had starved her and one day they tried to load her and she refused to go in so they tied her up to the back of the trailer and she walked trotted and cantered for 5 miles untill the police took action.
I road-ride all the time. I am very careful about cars. Moving over and all. But the thing that gets me is when they don't slow down and then they think it is funny to honk. RIP Holly.
i ride in iowa around a little town but i grew up in the counrty on gravel roads and when i'm riding i always make my horse get off the road and into the ditch because drivers don't expect you most of the time i'm sorry about holly and i'm glad your ok but i get off the road i NEVER EXPECT a driver to move around me thats probably why i'm still alive GOD bless you and holly
May I suggest that now the driver has been fined that you take a private prosecution action against him and take him to the cleaners. That will send a message to drivers to take more care when approaching and passing horses.

I know how it feels to lose a horse. My horse was hit and killed on Thursday. She got out of her pasture on Wed with her two other buddies. She died instantly. She well be greatly missed. R.I.P Reba and Holly

Yeah there are some drivers who slow down and give you a chance, it's so important that we thank these drivers by holding put our hand or with a nod and a smile so that they know we are greatful
this is sooo true. your horse can be dancing around in the middle of the road and drivers will still try to pass you. I don't think that ppl realise that a horse cn jump out in front of a car without a moments notice and how many of those cars would stop if a horse jumped out in front of them. The one thing that really shocks me is the number of riders in our area (Usually the hunt lot) who don't wear hi viz gear & insist on riding 2 wide around blind bends & refusing to move over. When I was younger & there were less horses on the roads everyone but few slowed down. Now nobody does. Sadly I Think its riders as well as drivers that need educating. Keep up the good work x

I posted your video to my FB page w/over 3800 friends, & 100 are horse people who I pray will post to theirs. I live on a busy country road and its rare for anyone to slow down. Speed limit 60 mph and motorcycle racers have been seen going in excess of 100 mph. The fire department up the road however, will slow down, even if on an emergency run. Sorry for the loss. One of my old horses got hit by a train because some stupid peole thought they would pull down the fencing to the fields there was also 6 other horses who got hit by a train or a car and there was only 15 horses in the field altogether

this is awful! the amount of times ive gone out riding on my horse and had to flag drivers done is unbelievable...cos shes a cob they think shes guna be fine and safe as houses but shes very spooky. yo are very brave for doing this well done :)

this is brilliant stuff! I'll ask around the yard I'm at if they know anything about this next time I'm up. We're at the edge of a small village and the main road to get to all the hacks is full of blind corners used by lorries often going at high speeds. I can't take my horse out because he's too spooky and unpredictable. Will spook at almost anything even a crack in the road!

I hope your campaign brings safety to both horse and rider and also brings you some kind of closure. The loss of Holly must be devastating and I know your pain in losing such a close friend as her. Holly is free of pain now but also free to run in fields of green and watch over you every day. She is free to keep her hooves above the grass and fly.

Me and my friend were riding down the raod and two teenagers were driving past. . .
At first they seemed respectable, seeing as though they were going rather slow, but the next thing I know they are blaring thier horn and speeding away in a matter of seconds. I can only be so thankful that I have a bomb-proof horse that won't spook at that -.-

Tracey honey i feel so badd for you.Your horse was beautiful.Last weekend me and my friend were riding on a dirt road and the speed limit was 15mph and here comes this car come flying around the corner doing at least 25mph.He almosts hits me and my friend it was horrible. I love my horses with all my heart and im sure you loved Holly just as much!This is a wounderful campaign i love it,because people truly need to kill their speed not our horses!And once again my heart goes out to you and Holly!

i always stop till horses pass or give a very wide berth as i had my own , the worst example of bad manners and obnoxiousness was a car seeing i had stopped for a horse blew his horn shot down the middle of the road accelerating past the speed limmit ( a driving school car ) if i'd remmembered his name i would have posted it for free advertising for him..

Oh Tracey. My heart goes out to you and for sure Holly is with all her friends that have passed over the Rainbow Bridge. It is just such a shame that ignorance took here before her time. I live in Spain where the drivers seem to even speed up when they go past horses. I ride into the traffic because otherwise they come right up behind the horse so it almost sits on the bonnet and take a long dressage whip to hold out at 90º angle to mark ´my space´. If the car comes to close I whip it!

This reminded me of something that happened 30 years ago on Long Island. The usual jackass- young- man in a hotrod showing off on a country road. My horse saved my life and kept the other horse and rider from panicking. In herds, the head mare keeps the young males in line with proper behavior. But what do we humans have?

omg thats so sad my horse got killed by a semi he was in the pasture and a car cut off the semi and the semie flew acros the road into the ditch flew up and hit 4 horses 1 was mine 2 where my uncles and 1 was my litteles sisters 1 of my uncles horses live but cannot be ridden the others died

some people are idiots! once when i was out whit my horse this car speeded up as they pased me from behind and the same time on of the gyes in the car tok his head out the window and scremed as they pased! i was glad i had my old mare she is verry calm and just jumped a bit, if it was my younger mare she would get totaly panic! and it was a big trafic!... realy sad to read this.. I know how you feel at least I was only lucky enough to watch my horse get hit..Her name was Brandy and amazig lill horse she slid down on some leaves and out into the road and i was lucky enough to grab onto a tree i can still here her scream and scramble along the road

my frend went out on her horse pilgrim and this driver came up behind her at about 50mph and beeped his horn at her!!! her horse then bolted down a main road on the rong side of the road and all she could do was hold on!!!
wen she came back she was in total shock and could not speak at all!!! both of them were fine but it explains that its happening to ppl all over the world and it has to stop

One of my horses has a sad story she is called lucy she is a bay connamira. I got lucy from a rescue centre 2 years ago when i was 8.Lucys old owners had starved her and one day they tried to load her and she refused to go in so they tied her up to the back of the trailer and she walked trotted and cantered for 5 miles untill the police took action.

I road-ride all the time. I am very careful about cars. Moving over and all. But the thing that gets me is when they don't slow down and then they think it is funny to honk. RIP Holly.

May I suggest that now the driver has been fined that you take a private prosecution action against him and take him to the cleaners. That will send a message to drivers to take more care when approaching and passing horses.

I know how it feels to lose a horse. My horse was hit and killed on Thursday. She got out of her pasture on Wed with her two other buddies. She died instantly. She well be greatly missed. R.I.P Reba and Holly

thats sad, im sooo sorry, me and zook were nearly hit by a car on my first hack out on him and its been my last, worst was i new the driver it was a quite dirt rd and he was going 70kmph, its pathetic how sum ppl drive and look wat happned tracey lost her beautiful mare coz of idioticness.

this is sooo true. your horse can be dancing around in the middle of the road and drivers will still try to pass you. I don't think that ppl realise that a horse cn jump out in front of a car without a moments notice and how many of those cars would stop if a horse jumped out in front of them. I dont like riding on the roads anymore cz of the stupid speeds that drivers do. Hardly any1 slows down these days.

I live on a counrty road, the speed cars go past is frightening, it's like they think they can do what ever speed they like because there is no police around. I've had so many near misses with my horses, I don't take Jack out on the roads anymore because he's so spokey and you can't trust cars to slow down if he starts messing about

oh my god hun thats just horid iv been in a car accident with my old pony when i was 9 it was 2 mins away from my farm when a car came around the bend and hit my horse in the belly aswell as me leg with its mirror i fell off but held on it was so scary we even had the police involved and the guy was band for 7 months from driving its very scary at any age horses are r life we would be lost with out them xxx soo sorry RIP holly
