the park was left standing not only with rides and buildings but with furniture and other objects that wer free game to be stolen. i personally know wer to find the copmplete furnishings of 2 separte hotel rooms. also you can prob go into alot of houses out der and find stolen propety from that park and hotel
This amusement Park has always scared me, and now they make a movie. My bros and sisters went in there before and there was a blue truk driving with no one in it. And theres a blue truk or car in the movie. So creeepy.
I'm from Chippewa, so sad they are going to tear it all down next spring for condos and a new hotel. The Tumble Bug, I'm afraid, is definitely going to the garbage dump. The new owners want the land cleared and don't care about the remaining rides/structures. Funny as this is the 30th anniversary of the park's closing.
I talked to a construction worker at the park, apparently they cant tear the park down because there is an endangered species of bat living there! great news!
Well that's semi-true. Demolition could not begin until the bats migrated out for the winter, so that means this spring demo will begin. I know that the owners were meeting with investors two weeks ago as they toured the park.
as much as i hate everything they are doing, and i think it's absolutley stupid.... I doubt anybody would let them get away with putting the tumbler in a landfill.... i heard there was only 3 still standing in the world. im sure somebody scooped it up for a museum, at least i hope.
All the old nostalgic parks are closed.... Chippewa, Coney Island in Long Island NY, Idora Park in Y-Town, and Conneaut Lake Park in Meadville, PA. I'm surprised that Kennywood in Pttsburgh hasn't closed their doors yet.
So sad.....SAVE THE TUMBLE BUG!Only one is operational but it may not be save!Lets hope either one day some park like kings Island or cedar point steals it or if its for sale, youll be seeing me at the bank!
I went there once with my family, in the fall of 2007, its always been in the back of my mind. My mom and i were walking up to the "Big Dipper" and something in the abandoned game booth kept banging things together every time we got close, it definetly was not a wild animal.
it's an amazing place to visit...my friends and I had a picnic on the dock there this summer, watching the sun set. you know Elvis once played on that stage?!
Chippewa closed in 1978... why I am not sure, but I wanna say maybe lack of business.. because of Cedar Point?
They just shut down this park.. left everything there. Just locked the gate.. that was it. it's crazy to see to this day some of these rides are still here.. just rotting away.
Beautiful photography. I keep on comming back to watch this video. It is so speicial and haunting seeing that wooden roller coster standing so lonely and sad. The music fits is so well also. So sad...

This brought tears to my eyes. It's so sad to see what has become of a place that helped create so many wonderful memories for me as a child.

It's sad that all of these smaller parks close because nobody wants to go to them anymore. Another piece of americana gone.....
