i got a 78 kz650b for free im gunna get a new battery but i have no idea how to pull my carbs off the bike and i cant find a repair manual. kinda scared to fuck with the bike but o well it was free right?
Nice, I just picked up a 86 Yamaha Radian that wouldnt run. $550. The thing sounded like it wanted to catch so I took the carbs apart and cleaned them. Now it will idle fine, choke when cold, zero choke after a few min. warming up.
Here is my problem: I shift into gear and let the clutch out SLOWLY! as soon as it encounters load it dies. Sometimes I can save it by clutch in and playing with throttle. Did I miss something in the carb, or is there another problem? It will start ok, just no power.
he is doing a good job cleaning this carburetor, but there is an easier way and more effective way always using air to blow out the passages set at 120 pounds PSI also use a sonic cleaner water and simple green run it through at its highest setting two times.
And them blow carburetor passages out at 120 pounds PSI perfectly a clean carburetor is the result.
damn, thats awesome. just got a 98 zx7r and put a new old motor in it, cleaned the carbs, and it still took a lot longer than that to get it to even start. Amazing
Three years ago I rode mine from St Petersburg Fla. to Columbus, Oh. in three days via the Tail of The Dragon. Then took it to Saginaw, Mi. and rode it for a year, trailered it to Tulsa, OK. rode it there 3 mos, then stored there for a year until just picked up 2 mos ago and brought to Paris, Tx. Will be working on it this winter, gas tank dented and scratched from laydown in OH, car went sideways in front of me. Pipes need a little TLC, and seat reupholstered but otherwise solid! Great bike!
so u hadn't started the bike in 20 years, and then u cleaned the carbs and/or did a carb over-haul and it's running like that? is that the story? nice job!
You cannot clean out the idle jet with carb spray.
You have to remove the float bowl and remove the idle jet .
The idle jet has a very small hole and can easily get clogged with dried up gas while sitting.
It will never idle right until you do that.
You can use a guitar string which is .009 of an inch.
DO NOT try to use a paper clip! It is too large and will ruin e opening of the jet hole.

@lucky51762 i took a spring from a pen and stretched it out. i believe the hole on mine was .0012. small as hell and took hrs to get.
