Say what you want about Metallica, yes Les is too good of a bass player for them, however, Kirk Hammet is a guitar god, Lars is meh (average) on the drums, and James is a decent singer and rhythm guitarist. I agree, most of this band sucks too much for Les, but I think that a Kirk and Les combo would be EPIC!

@duli14 Rob Trujillo is also too good to be a rhythm bass player, yet that is what he has been reduced to being in Metallica. If you listen to his work with Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves, you can hear what an amazing bass player he is. In Metallica, you hear very little of his obvious flair and talent. I'm not bashing Metallica here, but I don't know why they'd restrict their bass player so much when he is so talented on that instrument.

@TopTenCrew cliff was dead 3 years before primus had some anything. and in cliffs 24 years he helped to popularize metal and create a new style of playing bass guitar.
I respect the hell out of Les Claypool and the members of Primus as individual musicians, but fucking Christ I hate that band. I am glad to see that there is at least one more soul on the internet who thinks that Primus is terrible.

Yes. Les was to good. He would've outshun Cliff as the best bassist of Metallica, but to top it off he wouldn't have been able to do his own music with Primus, which would have been a damn shame since Primus sucks!
