I'm Italian but I live in Yellowknife (Northwest Territories, Canada) and I like very much Canadian accent coz it's so... beautiful. It has a musical and weird sound. Yes, I like it!!!
Im from Nebraska and I do enjoy a Canadian/northern Minnesota accent. Its pleasant to my ears, as where I find deep southern accent or new England accents very off putting, and give off unintelligent vibe. Ive never thought Canadians sound like they say "aboot" to me it sounds more like "aboat". For some reason, alot of people think Im Canadian, I get asked alot at work. Not sure where it comes from I was born and raised in NE, so go figure. Eh! lol
Oh wow i love your accent its lovely!!! I don't know why American media makes fun of it!!
As for my favourite English speaking accent, if i was to generalize either Australian or Scottish! But i'm Irish and i absolutely LOVE the Northern Irish accent (somewhat similar to a Scottsh accent), specifically a Derry accent! Its soooooooo sexy!!
As for the planet, i dunno maybe Venus or Saturn. No real reason though!
I do like the Canadian accent. It's so like a mic between American and British English :) But if I were to choose a favourite accent it'd have to be the Australian accent. It's so awesome sounding ;)
As for what planet, I'd have to choose Neptune... Although I doubt I'd survive for very long....
American and Canadian accent sound the same to me but the way canadians pronounce some words like "out" are differently which defines their nationality
do you know what accent says "a dog" as "ay dog" (opposed to "ah dog"). i can't seem to figure out what accent does that. the word "a" sounds like "say".
Appearntly because once i was with a few people ive never met in the usa and they said i have a canadian accent im like wtf??!?!?!? its the same thing
Im British, from Northern UK, and my hubby is Canadian-American, hailing originally from Vancouver, BC...and I must say, though he IS sexy the way he speaks, I couldn't discern that he was a Canadian, and thought he was rather a native Californian (as we live here in Southern CA)...Anyway, once he said "about" and been", and "skookum", I knew my Prince Charming was from elsewhere!! Well I thought he was trying to British up his accent when he met me, but no.....he's a sexy Canadian man!!
When I compare my "out" to "loud" I do notice it. I really do have a canadian accent, huh. I don't say "oot" but there definitely is an "oo" sound in there...
Canadian accent is cute on girls, and I speak "American." There's no giant differences, but when there is, it's cute. I don't see how other Americans make fun of it. Teasing, (which I do) maybe, but not to insult or make fun of.
To me the only noticeable difference between Canadian and American accents is the out and about. You pronounce it as oat or aboat whereas Americans, British and all other native English speakers say out as in rhyming with loud. I never noticed the bean thing or the sorry thing until you pointed it out. As for favourite accents I like an Irish accent, not sure about which planet I'd want to travel to though.
I am a kiwi and "kiwi" is not an offensive word!! It is so much easier than saying New Zealander.. I was so surprised when you thought kiwi was an offensive word LOL.
Also a side note I can barely tell the difference between you and Americans. I think the Americans make fun of the other Canadians from Quebec and that area where they sound different and the accent is much thicker almost kinda Scottish or Irish.
im from California and lived in georgia for YEARS my family is from georgia. I have a "western"accent cause theres definitely a subtle difference at least is most cases obvious difference. I have picked up the word Ya'll but thats from living with family. Ive never heard anyone say 'Arange' i say 'orange' my out about and loud are all the same
I noticed being from california i tend to leave out consonants, like caught, i dont emphasis the T so much, ive never heard anyone say flArida,
I think all the accents are awesome (e.g. british, australian, canadian) but i love to speak to people with british accents. I have only met an extremely small amount of brits so i usually find it to be a treat when i get to talk to one. brits make good narrators. I would like to travel to UK.

I'm from British Columbia, and when I moved to California they made fun of how I say tag and bag. I say it like bayg. And they said it like baaag lol ..They told be it was like i was saying beg like begging for something.. Which confused me.. Was also hard learning to say soda instead of pop lol

Interesting video. First and foremost: I am a multi-cultural Dutchman living in England. The most attractive 'English' accent: I actually have a top 5 :
1. New York(ian)
2. Canadian
3. Kiwi - NZ
4. Irish
5. (Correct) BBC British-English
No offense, but most of the dialects spoken within the UK, especially Scouse (Liverpudlian) sound really ugly to me.
What planet would I like to travel to? I love planet Earth the most, but Mars would be interesting to visit for a day.
Wow just reading some of the text to this video. There's alot of love being thrown at Canadian's. My accent is Sexy. I might have to blush on that one. Never heard that before.
@Foxiesz I live in Northern Ontario, and I can tell you there is a difference, subtle, mind you... Even my friends who live in Windsor, Ont. don't realize how their accents have changed. They sound kind of American, to us.. Up here, we notice the variance a little more. ex: they say huh, where we'd say eh? etc.... minor... we say pop, they say "soda pap" etc... he he
@Foxiesz Wow, really?! The Michigan accent is one of the few Northern US accents that I can distinguish from the Standard Canadian accent...seeing as how it's pretty different...well, that and the New Jersey/New York accent.
canadians sound sexy? i dont know how to describe it but canadians basically sound like american but more proper.....so much that you guys kinda sound robotic. it seems like black canadians pretty much sound like the whites as well
I Am American && I LOVE LOVE LOVE accents(: I Wish I Had One. (: I Apologize For All The Other Immature Americans That Bring Up Accents Like They Are Bad. ):
I live in the UK but have visited the US many times and every time I go my accent is brought up. Americans do poke fun at accents but it's merely facetious. With so many cultures converging in one place you're bound to have a cacophony of accents. Amercans are fond of them and if you get made fun of just laugh. They're always imitating foreign and domestic accents so have fun, lighten up! Nice post btw. I for one can't tell the difference in Canadian and American speech.
As a northern american from PA I've never noticed a difference in the way we speak here and the way canadians speak. To me they generally don't have an accent but that may be because we're so close to Canada here in PA. However I do have a friend who has heard some canadians say "aboot" but I've never met a canadian who said it that way. So canadians kinda sound the same to me. Or at least the ones from southern Ontario.
@eouillette lol thanks :) yeah its somewhat lame cause Californian's get shit lol... haha almost forgot.. But I'd Travel to Neptune :) I love blue haha
Ok I'm from Toronto and I say "out" and "about" exactly like "loud". Sooo I really don't get where people get the idea that we pronounce it like "oot"
@AnnaMidnightStar I'm from Toronto too but say them kind of between "oat" and "owt" and that's the way I find most Canadians say them, like the girl in the video. It's more and more noticeable when you compare Americans speaking to Canadians...
@AnnaMidnightStar yeah i have friends who when they try imitate Canadian accents they do that, but i can't say I've ever heard anyone do it, and i know a few Canadians. They also say you guys say 'boat', 'about' and 'boot' all the same, can't say i agree.
kiwi accents are funny they say 'pen' and 'pin' exactly the same, 'Sarah' sounds like 'seerah' and 'Claire' sounds like 'clear' hehe
@AnnaMidnightStar I think it could have been from the tv series "How I Met Your Mother." That's where I was exposed to the 'oot' that the show portrays canadian as.
I don't get why nobody makes fun of the way Americans talk. America's the one with four hundred different pronunciations for things with the same spelling.
@LaeBehleFere and you dont hear a canadian with a southern drawl.. and i have never in my life (except on tv) heard a canadian say aboot..where do they get that shit from
I've been perusing videos of accents because of a random stumble with someone bashing us Canadians.
I talk almost the exact same way you do. I live in Alberta. I say "out" and "about" with a little bit more of an "ow" sound than you do. I say been like "bin". I say drama/pyjama/pasta the same, and the sorry/sorrow/Florida.
I always chuckle when UK'ers call us wankers. It's supposed to be offensive but to us it just sounds so fay and quaint and well, British. Thus the intended impact is not conveyed.
Let me shed some light on what happened, I'm a kiwi, born and bred, living in Canada. He told you your Canadian accent was sexy cause he was trying to get into your pants.
@HeLovesCulture well Im from toronto and even I think newfie's talk funny, a lot of people I know like to make fun of their accent..... but ya I say 'a-gen' too (:
how much differnet is the canadian accent too an American one most ppl from the UK wouldnt be able to tell which is so different but i know its slightly less stronger than in terms of the accent
I'm Canadian too but I say sorry like the one that rimes with starry and I say drama with the aaah sound but pajama and pasta are the "canadian" way for me ... weird .. I guess it just depends...
The Australian accent is awesome^^ And I like British and Canadian, too. I'm Norwegian though, thus no English accents sounds particularly strange to me :)
im from vancouver and i talk a lot like you.. and i dont get why american people keep talking about canadian accent?? i mean, i live in rhode island (cuz i go to school here) and i think the accent here is a LOT more harsh?? and noticeable than canadian accent.. i dont get why so many americans have a preconception of canadians..
Pronouncing cot/caught the same is almost complete in Canada with about half the people in the U.S. I'm from Utah but I pronounce them differently . But here are some clues on how to replicate the distinction if you wish for fun. cot for me has the same unrounded vowel as in father, let's call it "ah." Caught has a rounded vowel that you have to round your lips to pronounce, "aw" You can always exaggerate "aw" like a Phillyite or a NYer and dial it back for a more standard American pronunciation
CANADIAN accent is FANTASTIC! I love it and I'd love to speak with that accent. But I guess it is almost impossible for me now unless I immigrate to Canada :( :P
I'm English. You sound American to me, apart from a few words.
I pronounce caught as CORT
I pronounce laugh as LARF
I am in love with the South African accent and the Welsh accent. I really don't like the American accent at times, but I am trying. I mean, you sound fine but sometimes the accent can sound whiny.
I'm swedish and after watching so much hockey (NHL) I've been told that I have a canadian accent. I like it though :). I've noticed myself using different sounds for "ou" than americans do and words like process and sorry, I say the "canadian way" too :). It's also the best accent btw :).
Hey I am from bham uk, I know it's not my fault lol, but you have a lovely accent, I also say bin as in where you bin, or I,ve bin, but do I detect a hint of Irish in there somewhere, sorry I hope I don't offend, but yes sexy accent, your pretty too, cool.
I am in Southern ontario, and you definitely have a different accent then the other people living here. I am from northern ontario, and I also speak differently than everyone here. I have a more Minnesota/Wisconsin accent I find. When I say not, it sort of sounds like nat, and i get made fun of for it. I don't really fit in here :P
I'm surprised nobody's said this about the 'roof' thing yet:
The way I understand that americans pronounce roof is that they use the 'oo' sound from 'look' rather than 'loop'. So Canadians would say "roof-loop" with the same vowel sound in both words whereas some (most?) americans would have a difference. I don't really think many americans say 'roof' so that it rhymes with 'stuff'.
americans are taught to pronounce vowels in two different ways, if it ends with an E then we pronounce the vowel in the CAPITAL tone which is how you say it in the alphabet (unless the word has two consecutive letters, like APPLE is the lower pronounciation as apposed to ACE being the capital pronounciation) in this case, how you say SORRY has two consecutive R's in it, so we pronounce it as SAWRRY. lower pronounciation O is AW as opposed OWE
02:33 I've noticed the biggest difference between Canadian and American accents is the way Canadians say anything with "-ar", like "car" or in this case, "fart". It sounds like "Faaehhrt" or "Caaeerhh".
I'm canadian, I don't say "bean", I say Been as in "ben" ha. But, I do say sorry, as Sore-Y. haha. I say that word a lot and people catch it quickly and they think I'm like weird or something at my school.
I am American and British accents are most attractive, to me, at least. Also, I say pah-sta. (the second way you said it.) And I don't say bin or bean for been. I say "ben" as in pen. :) Interesting vid, btw.
to answer your questions noufoundlander is my fav english because of the history. the planet i'd like to visit would be the moon. and other afew of thoes words are both corect speach.
I really liked your video, and as an American I think you speak almost the same as what would be considered a "normal" American accent. There are some subtle differences, but whatever. It makes you sound more exotic :) I LOVE the Irish accent, but there are plenty of other ones I find attractive as well. If I could go to any planet, I think it would be one that was like Earth that we have yet to discover.
actually, what wikipedia is referring to is the canadian-specific pronunciation of "been" as "bean." we tend to say "bin" in quicker, more casual speech, and "been" (like bean) when emphasizing the word. americans, however, never say "been" to sound like "bean." they pronounce the word as "ben" or sometimes "bin."
NICE

I'm from S. Ontario and I can't tell any difference between us and Americans in the surrounding area like Michigan
Foxiesz 9 months ago
@Foxiesz I live in Northern Ontario, and I can tell you there is a difference, subtle, mind you... Even my friends who live in Windsor, Ont. don't realize how their accents have changed. They sound kind of American, to us.. Up here, we notice the variance a little more. ex: they say huh, where we'd say eh? etc.... minor... we say pop, they say "soda pap" etc... he he
ralphyization 8 months ago
@Foxiesz Wow, really?! The Michigan accent is one of the few Northern US accents that I can distinguish from the Standard Canadian accent...seeing as how it's pretty different...well, that and the New Jersey/New York accent.

TheZeebraTV 10 months ago
I live in the UK but have visited the US many times and every time I go my accent is brought up. Americans do poke fun at accents but it's merely facetious. With so many cultures converging in one place you're bound to have a cacophony of accents. Amercans are fond of them and if you get made fun of just laugh. They're always imitating foreign and domestic accents so have fun, lighten up! Nice post btw. I for one can't tell the difference in Canadian and American speech.

as a canadian i feel we as a multicultural and miltilingual contry so we do tend to use both pronounciations.
thequietcanadian 10 months ago
As a northern american from PA I've never noticed a difference in the way we speak here and the way canadians speak. To me they generally don't have an accent but that may be because we're so close to Canada here in PA. However I do have a friend who has heard some canadians say "aboot" but I've never met a canadian who said it that way. So canadians kinda sound the same to me. Or at least the ones from southern Ontario.

Ok I'm from Toronto and I say "out" and "about" exactly like "loud". Sooo I really don't get where people get the idea that we pronounce it like "oot"
AnnaMidnightStar 10 months ago 15
@AnnaMidnightStar I'm from Toronto too but say them kind of between "oat" and "owt" and that's the way I find most Canadians say them, like the girl in the video. It's more and more noticeable when you compare Americans speaking to Canadians...
vanhuxel 7 months ago
@AnnaMidnightStar yeah i have friends who when they try imitate Canadian accents they do that, but i can't say I've ever heard anyone do it, and i know a few Canadians. They also say you guys say 'boat', 'about' and 'boot' all the same, can't say i agree.
kiwi accents are funny they say 'pen' and 'pin' exactly the same, 'Sarah' sounds like 'seerah' and 'Claire' sounds like 'clear' hehe

I also say again as "ah-gen" not "ah-gain".
And I have to say I love an Aussie accent.

Forget the whole "aboot" and "oot". I'm American and I've never heard Canadians say that lol.
Basically it sounds to us like:
Hey guys, I'm going OAT this evening.
or...
Hey, what ABOAT your jacket?
Americans pronounce it less like "oat" and more like a strong "ow" sound, like COW. lol

I am Canadian btw.

americans are taught to pronounce vowels in two different ways, if it ends with an E then we pronounce the vowel in the CAPITAL tone which is how you say it in the alphabet (unless the word has two consecutive letters, like APPLE is the lower pronounciation as apposed to ACE being the capital pronounciation) in this case, how you say SORRY has two consecutive R's in it, so we pronounce it as SAWRRY. lower pronounciation O is AW as opposed OWE
ThePetarrrrr 1 year ago
02:33 I've noticed the biggest difference between Canadian and American accents is the way Canadians say anything with "-ar", like "car" or in this case, "fart". It sounds like "Faaehhrt" or "Caaeerhh".

I really liked your video, and as an American I think you speak almost the same as what would be considered a "normal" American accent. There are some subtle differences, but whatever. It makes you sound more exotic :) I LOVE the Irish accent, but there are plenty of other ones I find attractive as well. If I could go to any planet, I think it would be one that was like Earth that we have yet to discover.

oxfordpictionary 1 year ago
actually, what wikipedia is referring to is the canadian-specific pronunciation of "been" as "bean." we tend to say "bin" in quicker, more casual speech, and "been" (like bean) when emphasizing the word. americans, however, never say "been" to sound like "bean." they pronounce the word as "ben" or sometimes "bin."
