def good race, a 425i... i have to say would have been even up. i have on and that one looks more less a 85 bi turbo they had some flaws had a carb set-up on early models and no intercooler, they had 185 flywheel hp. y 425i is fuel injected and water to air intercooler. The lude would def have a harder time messing with a 425i. specially one modified. What all was done to the lude? I/H/E? def nice lil run.
@mattprincler at that time i think it had just full exhaust. now its beat up since hes neglected alot but its still a pretty quick car! it can keep up with my 350z!
Biturbo haters be damned. Say what you will. And the prelude is STOCK of course, is the Maserati. Let's see.... which would I rater say I have in the garage..... give me the italian. MASERATI FOREVER !
oh well the Vtec won it fair and square...regardless the biturbo engine and all its still an era of cars shoddily built by the detomaso management. try dragging with a 3200 or a 4200
The Biturbo era cars being shoddily built is a myth propagated by those who didn't take care of them. Yes they have 'quirks' and the pre 85's had a design flaw in the heads but what exotic car doesn't have these quirks?
Well lets see a honda prelude... geared for low end power. A maserati biturbo...geared for high end top speed...who' gonna win a DRAG RACE. try racing those two cars on a highway were the maserati can use its high end speed.
'Honda Prelude geared for low end power'? What the heck are you talking about. VTEC kicks in at 5k RPM on an H22A prelude giving you anything but 'low end power'. Know what you are talking about before you comment...
LMAO! I own a Maserati Biturbo...The reason itthrows you back into your seat isbecasue the 1 bar of boost it builds, and besides im not talking about the engine itself im refering to the gearbox and rear end. So dont tell me that the 185hp engine is geared for torqe. Im sorry if you wernt trying to be mean but im tired of hearing ever little honda boy cry about the Vtech not engaging until 5K.
Ok. I own one too. I don't' know much about VTEC, but what I do know is my Biturbo has allot of low end torque and a high top speed. You are right about the boost though. For a while I was running with no boost, and it would barley move. As far as the video, the winner depends on who has spent more money and who is a better driver; allot more than the stock specs of the two cars.
That's not a Maserati 3500 GT. It's a 1984 to 1987 425 Biturbo, carburated. I have an '89 2800 FI spyder, 330 rwhp, some mods. pretty good for a 17 year old car.

Not a 425 just a regular Biturbo. 425's were sedans. Biturbos were about 200 horsepower from 2.5L - not bad for 1984.

Was that a US 425 ? most likely an automatic wich are sloooooww !!! the name Maserati sounds faster than it is (only counts for early biturbo's)

No dude you got it backwards. the Maserati is geared for low end tourqe. thats how a 185hp engine can sling you back in your seat.

Your so right. I garentee you that is a stock biturbo vs a tuned prelude
grimreper912003 4 years ago
Absolutely. i have no doubt that a stock Biturbo would beat stock Prelude.
