SaxoRocks, look closely, it's a video about seppuku, samurais committed seppuku to avoid dishonor and shame.
This is just a demonstration, these men are acting, the man in the white is very much alive
after the video. It's just a look at what happens in a seppuku ceremony, maybe if you learned more about the samurai and what the meaning of seppuku is, you woulden't think this is crap. It's not, it's a beautiful reinactment! Chill dear!!
the problem with having a head, is that it can be removed and then you have nothing. how do you get from heads & those under heads, to a decentralised structure without any ego competition. this is a sad thing i also thought of last night after watching a show on the Mongols, had their leader not died the east would have taken Europe, and the capitalist nature-abusers would have had not much or no hold in this world.
No, it's disgusting. It's a form of extremism, like suicide bombs, burning oneself alive - and it doesn't belong in a civilzied world. It highlights what's WRONG with the traditional Japanese culture, not what's "beautiful".
Every culture has it's assgravy. The Japanese is no different.
@superhamzah85 - in terms of the falling into enemy hands part though, better dead than slave. better dead than in some way imprisoned. i'd agree that - due to concepts of what is in fact dishonorable ot not - some of the other reasons are indeed assgravy. did you mean burning alive in terms of the buddhist monks who did that as a protest? cause again, of course that is horrible, but the point is that what they were protesting against is far far worse.
@dlk190239 - i do. you seem to mistake honor for following things just-because - just because what? you cannot be sincere while you use earthly laws made by the unspiritual as a basis for anything. for example, take some laws of today - such as cannabis being illegal - that is unjustifyable. face the facts, god isn't fully in charge here, nature is abused, earthly rules are often evil and not in keeping with truth. therefore that isn't the right path to follow.
@dlk190239 - in a military situation then a leader needs to know their troops can be trusted - sadly that sometimes means they have to obey things & they may not know why they should obey them. however that kind of army is best avoided, as it leads to ruin. i hate how Japan and anywhere else was compromised and altered by capitalism, the fact some pop culture is really cool is besides the point. same story all over, evil gets in because some bad laws are permitted and adhered to.
@superhamzah85 So because you do not understand it Seppuku it is assgravy? The term Samurai means "to serve", that is their sole purpose and they dedicated their lives totally to serve. If they failed to serve in the highest possible way they would atone for this neglect with their lives. In this way they can restore their honour for themselves and their family. It is called being responsible for your every action, how exactly is that not civilized? Your definition of civilized is not exclusive.
Thanks for your schoolboy definition, I knew that when I was 10. I understand everything, it REMAINS ass gravy. Enough of your ideolizing and romanticizing a barbaric eastern practise - Japan has banned it, they don't see why ass gravy needs to continue.
@superhamzah85 A tad sensitive are we? No need for the superiority act, it makes no difference to me what you think. The West had the firing squad, is that civilized? Better to die by your own hand than strapped to a post and shot by strangers IMO. Go ahead and talk down to me because you are so learned .... your opinion however is just that and nothing more so do not come off so righteous it only makes you look like an ass.
Firing squad is also ass gravy, along with the electric chair, concentration camps and chemical weapons. What makes you think I'm defending the West? I'm calling ass gravy everything that wreaks of shit and flows like gravy from a rottten skunk's a-hole.
A bleeding heart who doesn't understand the desire to maintain one's honour above all else .... gee what a surprise. You are the one who used the term "barbaric eastern practise" are you not? Twist your argument one more time to make yourself smart. We are all so impressed.
I used "Eastern" because you're the kind that romanticizes the orient. I don't, I am in agreement with Japan, they and I agree that it should be banned - which it is. You live in a fantasy world, failing to see how these honour codes, be it martyrdom in Islam, payment of sins by killing infidels in Christianity or worshipping a "good death" in Japan are all simply ways for the powerful to make people fight and look forward to dying.
@superhamzah85 You are totally deluded. I in no way suggested that seppuku should still be in practice today. Open your narrow mind for a moment and realize that my point is that it is arrogant to apply your opinion to a specific cultural belief. Seppuku was a value system based in Bushido, it is banned today, but Japanese still revere those who committed seppuku for honour (Byakkotai, Chūshingura, etc.). It is not a matter of romance rather it embodies loyalty, duty and character. Rant on ....
In WW2, they used this code to brainwash kamekaze pilots. Why? Because there was a fuel shortage, and you save 50% in a one way trip. Very honourable indeed.
When they stab themselves, they actually had to cut across. The less noise they made the stronger they were. Then when the pain is to unbearable, a friend or family member cleaves their head off. It is also very honorable of the friend or family member in completeing this act.
I think that this is well acted out, but just think of the many people who committed this horrible act. Seppuku, killing oneself, and not to mention, it' s ever so painful.. I don't know how the ones who sentenced a samurai to death by seppuku could live with themselves. I never could get it, but it's their ritual,
we can just give our opinions, it is what it is, and what it was is painful.
I can tell that this was an act, and the actors were fantastic in here.

@railgun in the words of the samurai "This is the most beautiful death" i do not belive it to be beautiful but what i do belive is no one lives forever and its best to die with honour then without it.
@Beno2212 no he kills himself of dishonor but it takes courage to do hara kiri just that its a sign of same and defeat or dishonor if you did not know this you should study on samurai but this is seppuku another samurai kills you at the point of pain this is only required to the samurai who have served well and failed
@brianthao102 hirakiri is wrong and no man has the right to take his life, only God has the right,so u know the devil is real and he is the one behind all the heinous practices in the world. God loves everyone, he gives eternal life to everyone one who has the Lord Jesus as his Savior. be softened...there is hope.
@railgun HaraKiri is the deepest meaning of taking own life, it's not just a suicide. Hara is the core of energy, kiru means to cut. Brave men beyond understanding used to do harakiri to save a their honor, or even for smaller objectives. I honor and respect those bushi who committed harakiri, those who knew what they were up to, and faced death, even if it meaned eternal damnation
These people that commit seppuku are very honorable for what they have done for the common people. But to kill oneself over humiliation or by order, that is what I have a hard time agreeing with.
And especially modern day suicide in Japan...You become stronger by facing difficulties in life and learning from mistakes.
sigh... the japanese know far more about honor than any of you people who are calling it "cowardly" or "stupid". you have no idea what honor is or means. go out and fight for your country? what are you even talking about? read before you respond. Americans make me want to puke sometimes.
Sorry, but that is not subjective. Everyone including the Japanese HAVE to admit that this ritual is absurd. Honor as I know it is the evaluation of a person's worthiness and trustworthiness, what is a man worth if he kills himself?
Unfortunately, I'm Iraqi and I hear about terrorists blowing themselves up for the same reason, they claim they're honoring their country yet they don't know they're simply just ravaging it.
"honor as I know it." You are from a different culture. They are not about self. It's about the group collective. Bringing shame to the group. You are accepting what you brought on yourself by dealing the killing blow yourself, thus bringing honor back to your family. If someone else kills you, then died because you couldn't get out of it or because you had no choice. In doing it yourself, you bring honor. And you're definitely not killing anyone else, and it's not a radical religious thing.
thats some of the thoughest ways to kill yourself - thats even worse then burn yourself. but its cowardly^^ ...sure whatever. you like watching rambo movies, dont you?
where the fuck do you know its about a lost fight anyway? oh let me guess its your experience with japanese/chinese action movies where it is all about fighting...sadly that has never been reality!
and last thing: he dont ACT like hes now honorable again...damn he stick a sword in his stomach!
i know people who have gave me that reason many reason all of which I THINK ARE STPUID! AND IT DOESNT MATTER IF IM FROM A DIFFERENT CULTURE! i think killing yourself is the stupid way to go. i see no honor there at all. people keep replying to me and its annyoing ebcuase there repaeting theireslefs. ALL OF YOUR REASONS FOR THE REASON THEY DO THIS I DISSAGREE WITJH SO YOU CAN"T WIN! THIS RITUAL IS COWARDLY AN D WRONG!
lol, I think we can all agree from your "passionate" (to say the least) and rather erratic response, that you haven't really put much thought into seppuku, much less taken the time to research it in terms of context, so it doesn't really matter if you disagree. And this isn't a contest in which someone wins or loses. The ritual is anything but cowardly.
i read all your comments below since there is none above but whatever. I enevr said killing was cowardly i meant this ritual. you did it again. you gave me a reaosn that you seem and alot of other people to be honorble and to me the whole idea is stupid, its just bullcrap. so what 'if they had no chcoice" which is wrong they always do but i don't. so your going to kill yourself becuase you don't want someto kill you? then go try to fight them or kill them not kill yourself! thats stupid
ok, you obviously don't know anything about seppuku, you have no clue what you're talking about. and I don't mean your opinion, I mean, you actually don't know what seppuku is or what it involves. I'm guessing you're probably a teenager. I can't imagine someone over the age of 18 would respond to this issue with the word "stupid" so many times, but I may be wrong, you may be older. Go actually research seppuku and then respond.
You repeat yourself again. i am a teenager and your sterotyping. not only that i have reaseached and its illogical what you want me to use bigger words that virtully mean the same meaning? your probalby a japansese fanboy or something
ok that makes youa fangirl. a fanboy/girl is someone who is an extreme fan or someone who cna't admit flaws in things. everyone knows what a fanboy is
I am sorry to tell you this, but you are a kid. A very emotional one at that. I don't mean to sound condescending but it's obvious that you are not even remotely old enough to understand that there is an entire world outside of your neighborhood. Just because you were raised and conditioned to believe that certain things are "right" does not mean that they are. If anyone can't admit flaws in things, it's you and you are a fan of yourself and your way of thinking.
Seppuku may not be right for you, but it is not stupid, and it is very imature of you and childish for you to get so emotionally indignant over our culture and our way of doing things. I'm not saying that seppuku is necessarily a good thing, considering it was outlawed a long time ago, but the people who have done it are VERY honorable and respectable people and they are by no means stupid. They are people who are willing to sacrifice their lives for their people.
Again, i don't count it as honorble because my vveiw of honor is different, much like the sparatans with their glory and what not. Yes i am a kid but i can assume your just a adult. Im 14, so what? doesnt make you right doesnt make me wrong, doesnt mean your more intelligent doesnt mean 'm more intelligent
I might sound like reaklly pasinote and what not bu when i first commented i was fine juste xpressed my opinion. its been likea month and people keep replying which as angered me thats why i sound mad
@thezamzie You don't understand. When ordered to kill yourself like this, you are already condemned to death, it is more a test to see if you will take an honourable way out by killing yourself.
@thezamzie Ok say for example, you are accused of treason. Something then happens (you are set up) so it looks like you are a traitor. Your Daimyo already says "you have to die", so you will, one way or another. If you commit hara-kiri i was always told it was called, you wont die a traitor, but if you don't you're a traitor, and your family could be left dishonoured.
Ok, I belive the entire idea of killing your self, a leader telling you too, the japanese in any way whatsoever is cowardly and NOt honorble. I also think its unintelligent. I do understand why they do this. I just think the reason for this is stupid and illogical. so yea.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It would be very entertaining and funny had the two used rough edges bamboo or a dull wooden swords to commit seppuku instead, what a sight that would be,i want to see a slow agony death,a dishonored warrior doese not deserve a clean shinny sharp metal sword,he doese not deserve a swift death by a clean sword agree ?? hahahaaa..
actually, while they do cut off the head quickly to avoid needless suffering, it was also to avoid any mishaps. The one doing the "disembowelment" isn't exactly a surgeon so... weird things can happen...
oh... it takes 2 people to do this.. i was planning to kill my self with this method...

Enough downranking. We all hav our opinions on seppuku, and I have to agree, it's not beautiful, not in my eyes. I don't agree with what they did.
However. I know it was part of samurai life, and that punishment was very real, and I do
recgonize that. Nobody should feel bad here, we all have our opinions, and I just gave mine.
Peace to all and God rest the souls of all samurais gone before us.

So you have a way out to leave in honor, when you made something wrong.

ALL OF YOUR REASONS FOR THE REASON THEY DO THIS I DISSAGREE WITJH SO YOU CAN"T WIN! THIS RITUAL IS COWARDLY AN D WRONG!
thezamzie 2 years ago
lol, I think we can all agree from your "passionate" (to say the least) and rather erratic response, that you haven't really put much thought into seppuku, much less taken the time to research it in terms of context, so it doesn't really matter if you disagree. And this isn't a contest in which someone wins or loses. The ritual is anything but cowardly.
theautumnsnow 2 years ago
i refuted wht you justs aid in my first comment. you gave me ore reasons. not only that you enver explained how it wasnt cowardly.
thezamzie 2 years ago
also...read my post above where I explain how it wasn't cowardly...
theautumnsnow 2 years ago
i read all your comments below since there is none above but whatever. I enevr said killing was cowardly i meant this ritual. you did it again. you gave me a reaosn that you seem and alot of other people to be honorble and to me the whole idea is stupid, its just bullcrap. so what 'if they had no chcoice" which is wrong they always do but i don't. so your going to kill yourself becuase you don't want someto kill you? then go try to fight them or kill them not kill yourself! thats stupid
thezamzie 2 years ago
ok, you obviously don't know anything about seppuku, you have no clue what you're talking about. and I don't mean your opinion, I mean, you actually don't know what seppuku is or what it involves. I'm guessing you're probably a teenager. I can't imagine someone over the age of 18 would respond to this issue with the word "stupid" so many times, but I may be wrong, you may be older. Go actually research seppuku and then respond.
theautumnsnow 2 years ago
You repeat yourself again. i am a teenager and your sterotyping. not only that i have reaseached and its illogical what you want me to use bigger words that virtully mean the same meaning? your probalby a japansese fanboy or something
thezamzie 2 years ago
i live in Japan.
theautumnsnow 2 years ago
and i don't know what "fanboy" is but i'm female.
theautumnsnow 2 years ago
ok that makes youa fangirl. a fanboy/girl is someone who is an extreme fan or someone who cna't admit flaws in things. everyone knows what a fanboy is

If anyone can't admit flaws in things, it's you and you are a fan of yourself and your way of thinking.
theautumnsnow 2 years ago
you judged me just now....
thezamzie 2 years ago
Seppuku may not be right for you, but it is not stupid, and it is very imature of you and childish for you to get so emotionally indignant over our culture and our way of doing things. I'm not saying that seppuku is necessarily a good thing, considering it was outlawed a long time ago, but the people who have done it are VERY honorable and respectable people and they are by no means stupid. They are people who are willing to sacrifice their lives for their people.
theautumnsnow 2 years ago
Again, i don't count it as honorble because my vveiw of honor is different, much like the sparatans with their glory and what not. Yes i am a kid but i can assume your just a adult. Im 14, so what? doesnt make you right doesnt make me wrong, doesnt mean your more intelligent doesnt mean 'm more intelligent
thezamzie 2 years ago
While I am not one to judge (that position has apparently been reserved by you) I highly doubt you would be willing to do the same.
theautumnsnow 2 years ago
I might sound like reaklly pasinote and what not bu when i first commented i was fine juste xpressed my opinion. its been likea month and people keep replying which as angered me thats why i sound mad
thezamzie 2 years ago
@thezamzie You don't understand. When ordered to kill yourself like this, you are already condemned to death, it is more a test to see if you will take an honourable way out by killing yourself.
mechapakmei 2 years ago
i don't think its honorable to kill yourself so i don't think its the honarble way
thezamzie 2 years ago
@thezamzie Ok say for example, you are accused of treason. Something then happens (you are set up) so it looks like you are a traitor. Your Daimyo already says "you have to die", so you will, one way or another. If you commit hara-kiri i was always told it was called, you wont die a traitor, but if you don't you're a traitor, and your family could be left dishonoured.
mechapakmei 2 years ago
Ok, I belive the entire idea of killing your self, a leader telling you too, the japanese in any way whatsoever is cowardly and NOt honorble. I also think its unintelligent. I do understand why they do this. I just think the reason for this is stupid and illogical. so yea.
thezamzie 2 years ago
@thezamzie
Totally agree, I think that the seppuku is the biggest flaw in the medieval Japanese culture.

It would be very entertaining and funny had the two used rough edges bamboo or a dull wooden swords to commit seppuku instead, what a sight that would be,i want to see a slow agony death,a dishonored warrior doese not deserve a clean shinny sharp metal sword,he doese not deserve a swift death by a clean sword agree ?? hahahaaa..

the head should never be cut off, it should still be left attached by a small amount of skin so it does not fly off.
mininox666 2 years ago
usagee, during hara-kiri samurai should not show any weakness, that's why his head was cut off so quickly and also to stop his suffering.
ILoveEduardoVeryMuch 2 years ago
actually, while they do cut off the head quickly to avoid needless suffering, it was also to avoid any mishaps. The one doing the "disembowelment" isn't exactly a surgeon so... weird things can happen...
theautumnsnow 2 years ago
The swordsman should have given him a little more time. He wasn't showing any weakness yet.
