So many influences in this one track...funk/jazz/rock...love Moontan...this album had a massive effect on me as a player, songwriter, producer etc...God bless GE!!!
I have always thought, If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life. I am a Slipknot fanatic! But this totaly ganks the test of time.
Moontan is an unbelievable LP and is a must-have for any progressive-style rock and Golden Earring fan. GE was way far ahead of their time for the mid-70s musically. It doesn't hurt they were European (Dutch) where alot of indy music derived, along with the Germans. This is one of my top 5 fav albums of all time!
Got the LP in 1974, £1.99, Virgin Records, wish i'd bought a hundred, what an album.I was into Crimson, Zep and Yes etc..... but played this the most, classic. Thank god for the net, can listen to this again, back to '74, with hair, greatcoat, crap beer, brut aftershave, tank top, stack heels, no, desert boots, anyone else like me? Go on, admit it, just for a laugh, wish i was back there just for a bit.
I bought Moontan when it first came out - I was in 5th grade. My older brother was a senior in high school at the time and when he saw it he asked me if it was any good. I said it was great, a little weird in places and I thought people on drugs would like it. A week later my brother and all his friends had bought it. Took me a few years to figure it out :)

I'm regressing today....so here's more of the best Psychedelic music you've probably never heard. Bet you didn't know Golden earring did psychedelic music!
FANTASTIC JOB - WELL DONE, MAN. ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SONGS, NOT ONLY FROM GOLDEN EARRING, BUT FROM THE MUSIC OF MY LIFE. Got it all: rhythm, strenght, melody, fantasy (the instrumental passage is incredible!)....even the lyrycs are great!!!!
i spent 3 hours listening to golden earring...radar love, are you receiving me.., alvin lee..bluest of blues, woke up this mornning, one of these days..all live footage...these we're awsome time being a teenager...but whats even better is playing
along...i grab my Godin Freeway guitar, my mesa boogie amp, and the rest is bliss
moontan and the darkside are still are my most farorites, having seen earring in the late 70's or early 80's ,with thin lizzy as an opener, kicked ass, ears rang for 3 days
Having just converted Moontan from lp to mp3, I set up my old speakers, amp and deck in our big attic. The first track I played was this, really loud. The instrumental passage is still superb after 35 (!) years. Again, woefully underrated band.
@LhodaKblerz These guys fekkin rock, this has been one of my fave recordings for years! RadarLove got all the airplay, but this is what us freaks listened to
@LhodaKblerz You must be as old as I am. I used to power this up before I went out on a Saturday night (when I was 25) hoping to score but coming home empty handed! I loved Moontan.
I feel a bit sad that that album was so great but they didn't seem to be able to do it again.
Criminally underrated is right! Every time I played this music for people who were only familiar with Radar Love, they'd be amazed that GE weren't more recognized and popular than they were. This song in particular has one of the best jams in rock history.
They are highly underrated because most people only know them from their two hit songs. They actually have a vast catalog of great songs...thus being underrated.
@rubicon1983 Hi golden earring were huge i saw them in the radar love era sold out huge. in those days i didnt listen to radio.a few years back i got them to play some golden earring on radio caroline the track they played was the full version uncut too thanks guys at radio caroline great music station.
Still as fresh and deep as 35 yrs ago !!!...LONG LIVE THE EARRING

I was drafted by the Army in '71 (just my luck, the last draft), so I joined the Navy. I was
stationed on a Sub Tender in Rota, Spain. It just sat in port and let the subs pull up next to
us for repairs/supplys, etc. I lived off ship in town. Loved to load up the bong with some
Moroccan hash and put this album on (especially this song). Just a great band. Glad to
hear they're still rocking in the Netherlands. Need to get over there. Might be hard learning
the language.

This would make a great Concerto for Electric Guitar and Orchestra. Metallica & Deep Purple did it. This song would be the best of all!
