I was drafted by the Army in '71 (just my luck, the last draft), so I joined the Navy. I was

stationed on a Sub Tender in Rota, Spain. It just sat in port and let the subs pull up next to

us for repairs/supplys, etc. I lived off ship in town. Loved to load up the bong with some

Moroccan hash and put this album on (especially this song). Just a great band. Glad to

hear they're still rocking in the Netherlands. Need to get over there. Might be hard learning

the language.

Moontan is an unbelievable LP and is a must-have for any progressive-style rock and Golden Earring fan. GE was way far ahead of their time for the mid-70s musically. It doesn't hurt they were European (Dutch) where alot of indy music derived, along with the Germans. This is one of my top 5 fav albums of all time!

Got the LP in 1974, £1.99, Virgin Records, wish i'd bought a hundred, what an album.I was into Crimson, Zep and Yes etc..... but played this the most, classic. Thank god for the net, can listen to this again, back to '74, with hair, greatcoat, crap beer, brut aftershave, tank top, stack heels, no, desert boots, anyone else like me? Go on, admit it, just for a laugh, wish i was back there just for a bit.

I bought Moontan when it first came out - I was in 5th grade. My older brother was a senior in high school at the time and when he saw it he asked me if it was any good. I said it was great, a little weird in place and I thought people on drugs would like it. A week later my brother and all his friends had bought it. Took me a few years to figure it out :)

Having just converted Moontan from lp to mp3, I set up my old speakers, amp and deck in our big attic. The first track I played was this, really loud. The instrumental passage is still superb after 35 (!) years. Again, woefully underrated band.

I feel a bit sad that that album was so great but they didn't seem to be able to do it again.

Criminally underrated is right! Every time I played this music for people who were only familiar with Radar Love, they'd be amazed that GE weren't more recognized and popular than they were. This song in particular has one of the best jams in rock history.
