  • I was having an anxiety attack. Thank you, Paul and Simon.

  • that picture at 2:11 is sooo adorable!

  • There is a nice solo version of this too - it's on the Paul Simon Songbook album.

No Art Garfunkel angelic harmonising, but still nice - worth checking out.

  • Paul's haircut reminds me of Jim Carrey's in Dumb & Dumber!

  • Simon & Garfunkel are all I listen to now, I just love them!

  • how hand some they both look... like their singing and like their lyrics.....

  • Sad, sad, sad, and beautiful, beautiful, beautiful; Simon is a master of melody.

  • Ten years old and hear Mrs. Robinson and am an immediate fan; only get 2 bucks a week for an allowance so spend three weeks waiting to save enough to buy one of their albums. Miserable, suicidal, hating myself, but this song and everything they do is like heaven and a reason to keep living. Paul Simon has written the most beautiful melodies in the world and(as I discovered as I got older) some of the best lyrics.

  • @chomsky88 - Hello. At one time or another, I think we've all been down in those despair ditches. Music pulled me out more than once, often enough S&G (or one at least). Hubby & I both major fans, so our children have been fortunate enough to hear them frequently. Sorry to say, but so many (not all) of today's "artists" can't hold a candle to these two. Best Wishes & Peace.

  • @mjcamck71 If you are not familiar with her, try Vienna Teng. S&G are a major influence on her work.

  • @marysueeasteregg - Hello. Yes, fortunately, as I said, "not all" of today's artists lack the ability to produce lovely & meaningful songs. I did check Vienna T. out & her tunes are, indeed, very nice. My children are teens now & they listen to some good contemporary artists like Celtic Thunder, Josh Groban, Coldplay, Jonas Brothers, Michael Buble, Green Day. They also like listening with mom & dad to great 60's/70's Acts. Best Wishes to you. Peace & Love, Bread & Justice to ALL.

  • Wow... my life is self-destructing, there's a half-drunk bottle of jack daniels in my hand, and i'm thinking about running my car off a cliff... but when i hear this song, all i can do is cry and remember the times of my life -- the beautiful, true times of my life. I must be what i must be and face tomorrow, so i will continue to continue to pretend....

  • I love this song. Oh you gorgeous guys!

  • Absolutely amazing song. The only words to describe this song are it's own lyrics.

  • such an underrated song

  • I love the video and lyrics....I have the box set of S&G......I a while back introduced my daughter Emma to CSN&Y and America & Elton John's Yellow Brick Road.....now the legacy continues...I will introduce Emma to what I consider to be one of the most amazing Duo's of all time.....thank you again dear friend for your magical remedies :--)

  • @xFlatulencex Don't even call them a 'fuckin gay band'. You listen to shitty excuses for metal! I listen to Haemorrhageand Cannibal Corpse, but I still love the kind of artistry demonstrated by Simon and Garfunkel and The Who. I'm a metalhead, but I still listen to good music outside of Metal. What you listen to is more fabricated than T-Pain and Lil Wayne. Don't even listen to this if your ignorant mind can't appreciate or respect good music. In your terms you can comprehend, GTFO FAGET! LOLOLO

  • @HYPERZEPHARIAN your a cock sucker

  • @xFlatulencex what kind of music do you listen to then, I saw metal but what kind? This is hardly gay merely overly artistic to the minds of modern ingrates. I am a metal fan but I wouldn't consider Cannibal Corpse REAL metal more like UHH UGHH UHH cave man jams which is all well and good but it has no feeling It has nothing to say. I prefer Black Metal Emperor and Carpathian Forest RULE!! Satyricon as well. as far as artistry goes SImon And Garfunkel are very similar to Uli Roth - the ...

  • @hippieman128 Uli Roth Subtracting the instrumental virtuosity

  • @hippieman128 do you honestly listen to metal for the lyrics what are you 14?

  • @xFlatulencex Instrumental virtuosity. however paul simon had the Lyrical virtuosity that has been unmatched by any new comers since Elliot Smith Died excluding Eddie Vedder of course but he is not a new comer been around since the mid to late 80's. oh and bob dylan was before paul simon so that excludes him as well and the Amazing Jim Morrison was incomparable by anyone. all equally expressive emotive and skilled, some I like better than others though. And as far as metal goes...

  • @xFlatulencex Isahn and mortiis take the cake as far as metal lyricists are concerned and in Black Metal there are too many Fantastic composers to name or describe. get back to me if you want to know more. I school even the greatest minds.

  • @hippieman128 black metal is retarded except melechesh and ninnghizhidda don't compare ihsahn to s&g his lyrics are stupid as fuck emperor blows

  • This album is great on vinyl. One of my favorites on it.

  • @SheekChick LOL when I was preggers - ok, 8 years ago - the only thing that helped with the morning sickness that always decided to strike at 4 am was to walk up and down our long entryway listening to their Parsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme CD. Well, that and Aqua Teen Hunger Force, but that's not really for children :-)

  • @66Doctor66

Yes, Sir. It is. And the music these two lads left us makes it ever more so.

  • @Aphidboy

    Much truth is in this.

    *salute*

  • Listening to this song once or twice a day makes me much happier!

  • THis song helped me live again 32 years ago. I love it.

    THank you very much!

  • Some years ago I bought the S & G collection from Woolworths. I was shocked how small the archive is compared with George Harrison. But S & G plus their individual greatest hits sit next to my George H. for that is right.

  • A Magic Song

  • This is such a hooking song. The rhythm is incredible and their voices... makes me speechless.

  • Perfect song

  • Thank you for posting this!!

  • lol im pregnant and whenver i play this song, my baby just does backfilps in my belly... he already knows good music when he hears it lol :D

  • @SheekChick6901 not even born and it knows good music!!!

  • @SheekChick6901 Feel blessed- most of the people who are already born don't even have that good of taste! :P

  • @SheekChick6901

    Namasta...............congradulations !!!

  • @SheekChick6901 if your baby is yet born i hope he/she is a happy one :)

  • @SheekChick6901 how u doing did u have a boy or a girl, i have a 2 week old boy called sonny cant wait for him to hear simon and garfunkel

  • @SheekChick6901 How about now? :D

  • @SheekChick6901 Should have been A bridge over broken waters! Hope the birth went well, congrats!

  • The song I come back to all the time.

    So tender, so beautiful!

  • Where has this incredible song BEEN all these years???? I thought i'd heard every S & G song..... but fortunately i was wrong!!! They wrote, performed and recorded SO many great musical treats - i remain in awe of this fabulous pair of superb artists.

  • This has been one of my favorite songs since I first heard it in the early 1980's. It is to beautiful for words...

  • cool song long live paul simon and art garfunkel!!!

  • Awesome song

  • This is my favorite Simon and Garfunkel song!!! Im so stoked you posted this up!! WoW!!! These guys had such an incredible vibe working!!! I LOVE YOU TUBE!!!

  • Paul Simon wrote all their music

  • what does this mean? "flowers never bend with the rainfall?"

  • " Pretend life will never end,"--not true. The analogy is the metaphor"flowers never bend..." also not true

  • it's poetry. by the way, lyrics were Paul Simon's not based on Art's anything. That's plainly incorrect. Saw them in 1968 at U of Rochester. Been a fan that has followed them since 1965

  • I believe it's saying that even though hard times may come, one has to face reality. It's kind of hard to understand.

  • that's a good question. it's open to interpretation, here's mine: in the context of lyrics about disillusion flowers stand for something noble, even institution-like. to believe in, yet they can't remain upright (as beliefs should) when confronted by the elements (reality). It's a metaphor for a brave act, but nothing more, just an act. Simon may have never written anything as poetically profound as this. Arguably his best lyric.

....continue to pretend/my life will never end and flowers etc.

  • Simon and Garfunkel were definitely divinely gifted by God! These guys were amazing!

  • simply awesome

  • To Nick, wherever he may be: Do you remember singing this together on a sunny afternoon in Santa Cruz? Honey, you were the pixie dust of my youth, my own Mr.Tambourine Man.

I'll never understand why you went in the direction you did. Still miss you.

  • Brings back alot of memories... love them both. Arts vocal performance is beautiful and touching.

  • Wow! Great song! I know very much songs of Simon and Gafunkel, but this one wasn't one of those songs.

  • i'm a second generation huge S&G fan! I grew up hearing their music. Love em

  • Did Paul write all the songs? I'm young, I don't really know but my mum was a total poo and said "paul wrote the amazing lyrics but art had that amazing voice!" whats the deal?

  • Yes, all the songs from the Simon & Garfunkel era are Paul's. He then continued to power on through the 70's & 80's solo and gave us more of his greatness, such as in Graceland. He is a legend, a poet, a master guitarist and you just don't get talent like that these days! Art has a lovely voice :)

  • paul wrote all the songs , garfunkel did do some arranging/producing , but the lyrics are pauls .i got into them when i was 16. their amazing

  • I WENT TO THEIR CONCERT IS SYDNEY LAST NIGHT. I cried during BOTwater. I'm 14 and I'm truly in love.

  • Yeah, Art never wrote anything; it was all Paul.

  • i know Paul wrote the lyrics to Sounds of Silence...

im almost certain most of it was Paul...whatever the music is all amazing

  • paul simon wrote " dangling conversation"

which i would say is definitely poetry. i give them both credit for writing :P

  • Sorry...Do some research. I love Artie, but MOST of their lyrics were Paul's. just read the credits on the albums.

  • 'no matter if your born, to play the king or pawn, for the line is thinly drawn 'tween joy and sorrow.' - beautiful words.

really enjoying being up in the wee hours with a cuppa listening to these guys too.

  • One of bests of them.Hugs.

  • love this song not a song for the non sim on and garfunkelm fan!!

  • "Soon my fantasy becomes reality and I must be what I must be and face tomorrow"....Classic beautidul words...

  • Up at midnight sipping hot chocolate listening to these guys. Isn't life great!

  • Going to see them at Brisbane in June - life just got perfect!!!

  • Hello, so am I, bought my two tickets today......yeah life is good.

Love this song one of my favourites

  • Saw them in Sydney on Saturday night - absolutely amazing!! Despite being the youngest member of the audience... it was still an incredible night :)

  • Just wondering, cause I've never been able to see them perform live, are their voices still good, especially Artie's? Did they sing well together from what you heard?

  • I heard Artie live this past fall, and he was great in his lower register, but had some troubles with his really high notes he did very well when he was younger. It was either lack or energy, or the drugs in the past messing up his voice.

  • No, Manda...advancing age lowers the voice.

  • he has never been an "addict" as such, but he has indeed been arrested twice for possession of cannabis.

  • big deal, why don't you enjoy the music without analyzing what it means

  • Last time I saw them was in Chicago, they performed "A Summer Evening" concert at the ballpark. GREAT. Their voices blended like none other. It was a year after their reunion concert in NY's Central Park. Wow, I miss their music.

  • When you listen to these two, Yeah. Hope their music never dies.

  • @66doctor66 my kind of guy!!

  • @66doctor66 I AM DOING JUST THE SAME, ONLY I WILL SOON START PLAYING RONNIE DREW & THE DUBLINERS,GIVE THEM A GO BYE.

  • @66doctor66 beer and wine works too :)

  • @Zazalooch haha, that it does

  • @66doctor66 You must really know how to enjoy life. I'm 17 and I've listened to them as early as 11 years old and I really want to stay home from school one day and listen to them all day. Beautiful poetic songs. <3

  • @66doctor66 Definitely.

  • please, anyone can send me the lyrics of this song.. please guys.

  • You can look them up online, or buy Paul Simon's book, "Lyrics".

  • Great song.

  • I love Simon and Garfunkel.

  • Such a perfectly beautiful song; a surprising number of people seem unfamiliar with it, perhaps because it hasn't been included in their greatest hits albums.

  • i agree that's a very pretty song from 'parsley, sage' album...

to be honest, though, the lyrics are very self-consciously poetic and faux-philosophical...it's very 6th formy...

simon is embarrassed by this phase in his writing (although the title song is still a classic, of course)...

on the whole - i think the album is brilliant - but that's speaking as a paul simon devotee...

i'm not surprised that simon dismissed this style of writing...bookends and bridge were FAR more mature...

  • To be honest, though, your comment sounds like "rock journalism." I simply said it's a beautiful song.

  • WRONG WRONG WRONG

  • Why?

    It's geat I love S&G

  • i agree! It is a beautiful, perfect song, and Paul Simon has no reason to dislike it! :D

  • My favorite is "Save the Life of My Child", then "Under African Skies."

  • wonderful pictures!

  • Fantastic!!!

  • thank you. i love this song.

  • Paul Simon=song writing genius.

  • Jadore S&G

  • S&G the reason I fell in love with american music.

  • just one more reason why paul simon is the greatest song writer that ever lived.

  • so i continue to continue to pretend my life will never end.....GREAT!!!! one of my fave songs of the duo...

  • One of my all time favorite songs. Thank you. Lyrically and musically perfect.

  • Thanks for sending this Jay. Its also one of

  • :) I love Simon and Garfunkel!!...thanks for posting...great song!

  • One of their best..I really like the words - the ending is proof that quiet is more powerful and effective than noise!

    Thanks, Owen

  • I know how you feel, sully!! I had a big brother.....and I love you still for Simon and Garfunkel!!!!

  • One of their best songs. Many people who love S&G are unfamiliar with it because it's not found on their greatest hits collections.

  • I am glad My older sisters were teens during this time or I would have never learned to appreciate these songs, and other like this

  • One of my all-time favorites! Where are today's poetry-drenched singer-songwriters?

  • the Adore album by the Smashing Pumpkins is poetry drenched and beautiful, but its from ten years ago.

  • I had never heard this song before, and I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Simon and Garfunkel. I really appreciate you posting this!

    I love it (:

    Paul & Art=a genius duo!

  • love this song too! "i can't touch what i feel"
