  • This is a "vivacious" video. =p

  • I would have shit myself...

  • This video went viral on Senegal

  • EPIC!!!!!

  • How do they work emergencies into simulator training? Do you fly hundreds of full simulated flights from start to finish and they occasionally throw an emergency at you so you never know when one's coming? Or do you go into the simulator knowing you're going to experience an engine fire that day, or what?

  • @reluctable I don't think they're told in advance, the FO looked genuinely surprised and I imagine if he had known in advance he would have had the checklist ready.

  • How convenient, they are already lined up to land when it happens. Why not over the Atlantic.

  • @orimai Music would go on for too long

  • Why he says "35 35"what it means

  • @HKS134 He wishes he was 35 years old again.

  • EJECT EJECT EJECT!!!

  • Engine fire drill:

    - Grab the checklist

    - Transponder to TA only

    - Pull the red leaver that say's 'pull in case of fire'

    - call your mom!

    end of checklist

  • Which switch queues the dramatic music? That switch is AWESOME!! Is that in the checklist?

  • @pimpb0tt

    - Seatbelt sign on [if not already]

    - A/T set to off

    - Thrust to idle

    - Que dramatic music

    - Secure engine...

  • i love the md 11 , and that video must be the coolest ive ever seen

  • Engine fire in #2 but he activated the fire suppression system for engine #1.

  • @blackwaterapprentice Nope. At 0:04 he announces fire in #1. He then activates suppression on #1. Later, at 0:39 he announces he "lost" #2, but he did not get a fire alert on #2.

  • @4325air ah ok. i replayed it and get it now. I thought we would have gotten a warning though.

  • What?

  • what do you mean with your name?

  • Good automated reaction on emergency situation. No stress and wrong deeds. Have anybody heard of heroically demised simulator crew? :))))

  • Ridiculous ... in a real emergency, for pilot has no time to read. Why not learn what to do??

  • @otto63363 They do know. But they use a checklist to make sure they didn't forget any item.

  • @otto63363 Why not go over notes? There is a co-pilot for a reason

  • 10 people didn't manage to deal with the engine fire or even crashed during this simulation

  • Yea they made it!!! :D

  • well train

  • Oh GOD! the plane crashed at the end of the simulation!

  • >.< Wouldn't want this in a realistic flight....

  • awesome, thanks for the upload!

  • md11 is a fucked up airplane so this is not far from true.

  • this is great , but it is a pilots job , sullenberger wasnt really a hero :( he did his job

  • the MD 11 was not around long as a commercial transport, and for good reason. this plane was/is a disaster waiting to happen.

  • does the intense music come with the simulator? lol

  • are thay useing fsx or xplane or flightgear for simulating traning

  • @gman846 One reason why is because autopilot can't fly anything...dang fail computers

  • I flew in a 777-300 training simulator in Hong Kong where I trained for the same emergency. It was quite something, and very stressful despite I was in a simulator.

  • I thought the landing waz a bit too fast! I thought he came in relatively quickly! :D

  • @WPTProductions yeah, i agree. i mean in the outside of the plane looks so fake, you know its fake cause nothing moves outside, most likely at the time SOMETHING is going to blink or move outside, it was a simulator , and thats how you can tell..

  • i watched it like 10 times 0.o

  • What can I say? Perfectly executed. Good job guys! I really miss this beaultiful bird. Now I am flying something else.

  • @apple don't have to be sucha fucking asshole about it

  • god damn there fast.

  • It's a simulator

  • @FSXA321 no shit sherlock.

  • Just so happens to be they were on landing. Lucky

  • Very well handled! Beautiful recovery and landing! That is how it is done! :)

  • The dramatic music add all the suspense.

  • big prob engine one fire!!!!!!!!

  • I like the way the pilot doesnt even move, but the co-pilot almost jumps to the roof, and grabbing for checklists, and buttons and everything :P

  • @AircraftVids the pilot would have continues flying, while the co went thru emerg. checklights

  • Look how quick those guys work!

  • this is so realistic there's always something wronge with the real md11s

  • That was actually the GPWS flap inhibit switch. Normally they would use flaps 35/40deg as landing config (set in FMS). Because of the eng failures they had to use flaps 28 to minimize drag. Without pushing that particular switch the GPWS would sound off a "TOO LOW - FLAPS"-alarm.

  • I love this!! is this from any longer program??I would like to know!!

  • actual footage, dramatised based on real event or dramatised fiction?

  • by the book nice job

  • FlightSimulator

  • wow dude if this is a flight simulator it must be a HUGE download and only the BEST computer could run it.......GET IT? if you dont ITS REAL

  • sigh, it's a sim, a real sim! not microsoft

  • @bounceferret An ms sim can be just as good if you invest some money into it.

  • land the MD-11 with 2 engines fails on short final, the crew did a great job...

  • I'm suprised the sink rate alarm didn't go on. They were really coming down, especially the last 100 ft.

  • yup.... but i think i heard the line "GPWS switch off"..so i suppose that's why?

but really can't blame the pilots landing the airplane hard when they only got 1 engine..

  • @im1knight

    The MD-11 has 3.

  • @secret00agent00man

but 2 of them failed, so in the end it was a single engine landing

  • @im1knight "Ground Proximity Warning System" - it keeps Bitch'n Betty from screaming out "TERRAIN! TERRAIN!" blah blah etc. as they obviously know they will be near the terrain (they are landing duh)

  • The pilot training demonstrated here is awesome. I've flown the simulator many times....with winds calm and an aircraft in perfect operating order. I would have been completely saturated and virtually frozen during such an event as seen here. A big salute to the pros.

  • By the third time I'd have to push the master caution (warning?) button, i would just rip that sucker out!

  • It becomes second nature to verify whatever fault it is annunciating and to cancel it so it can "caution" you again. I think you are right...the engine out might be a "warning".....fires are warnings. During maintenance the master caution goes on and off a hundred times a day. One time it came on for real during taxi...and it took me a second or two to realize I was in a live aircraft and to take ECAM action. It was an EPR probe heater. We switched to "N1 Mode" on the overhead, and pressed on.

  • This video is of American Airlines pilots training in DFW. The clip is from the film "the Spirit of American" which can be watched at the AA museum in DFW and can be bought on DVD there also.

  • @higherandhigher344 err, the outside of the plane look faek.. wus it? sory for my bad languahge, i am Spainish,

  • Captain sounds like Sean Connery :P Cool video, nice anticipation of the GPWS flap override.

  • Who added the stupid music?

  • thats cool, do you know the name of the show?

  • well,it is not in the US,it was a turkish show but the simulators are at IFTC near the LTBA Ataturk airport.

  • 0:45

"To low gear" ???? Landing gear lights look green

  • @Rwy02

Ok, i'm not sure if i'm right because im not a pilot, however i watched it closely and it looks like to me that the AP lost power for a few seconds there after engine No.2 failed, which is why the AP disengaged(looking at the lights on MCP), then when the light came back on, which i assume was when the power came back on, the GPWS got reset. and therefore there's a callout of Too low Gear.

i could be totally wrong, just making an educated guess here.

  • Well i haven't studied the MD-11s avionics so i couldn't say.

  • whats why you can't mess up, you gotta be pro no matter what

  • well its not impossible, alot of avation colleges have them and they arent illegal to use so they can do what they want with it

i know UND has a pretty mean crj-700 sim

  • belive it...

some of the new state-of-the art simulators run for 8-10 million dollars

price of: reinforced concrete floor, hydralic system, control room, pilot interface with the realstic controls , simulation screen

thats just the stuff of the top of my head... im not sure about where your from but after the 9/11 terrorist attacks its been pretty hard for a regular person to get in one of these even if they do have the money

  • i got into one for FREE

  • @instructablesderin

really? wow, how did you do that

  • my dad went onto an aviation themed tv show and answered some questions to get one hour of 737NG sim flight.

  • That was a simulator and not real life

  • @Coolboez305

    for training

  • it'd be well worth it for a few hours :p

  • That was fast, that was an excellent job.

  • Brilliant video, thx 4 sharing. BTW anybody knows why he tells the tower they've "lost number 2 engine" at 0:40, when it's actually number 1?

  • its explained in the end, if engine number 1 fails it throws debry in number 2 so it also fails listen to the part he says at 0:40 he says something like 1 and two are out

  • you're aboslutely right. Saw it now. Thx 4 your response.

  • they lost the number two engine too

  • Look at the end of the video!

  • The American MD-11 at the end looks like a DC-10 ;) But it is a MD-11 - They had Winglets

  • I'd love to be able to use a commercial flight sim like that

  • engine 2 would be the best engine to fail so there wont be any thrust imbalance

  • how much proportionate thrust do the two engines really push though?

  • @ArmyofSeaturtles I believe engines are always numbered from left to right; so engine two would be the center (tail) engine, meaning at landing the only functioning engine (three) would be the one on the right wing. I could be wrong about this, though.

  • @zorak950 thats correct number 2 is the middle engine

  • @ArmyofSeaturtles did you work that out all by yourself?

  • simulator !!!!! not real !!!

  • yepp my mistake

  • Where you get this video?

  • "two low gear"

  • It's not 'TWO' , but TOO ;)

  • Dito. anyone else notice it was down?

  • Cartoons? You have an idea how much does it simulator cost dude? And how cool to practice is?

  • both pilots should have just jumped out with parachutes and let a passenger take over. hahahahahahahah

  • ive seen this movie at the CR smith Aviation Museum near the Dallas FW international airport, Tx. Im 18 and i remember seeeing this film since i was 5 or 6, and ive seen it so many times. This probably sparked my love of aviation...

  • This is a simulator isn't it?

  • That's very cool, look at how busy their office gets, just with two people and a faulty plane. Reall cool to see them reacting so appropriately to the situatio. Ahh, i wish i am a pilot right this moment!

  • Pretty cool...

  • does anyone know the sound that comes after the "autopilot-off-sound"

    0.23

  • The intercom button to call the cabin crew

  • Actualy, depending on the situation and aircraft/airline procedures, Reverse thrust is usualy deployed on the functioning engine(s). relying simply on breaks in infesable as it will undoubtably cause a significant wheel well fire. Anti-skid systems prevent the force of that one engine working to keep the plane on the tarmac.

  • @gozziguy Brake fires are most likely when heavy braking is applied to an aircraft landing overweight without the assistance of thrust reversers. Since this emergency apparently manifested on short final, I'm guessing the (simulated) plane wasn't overweight, making a wheel well fire less likely, but still plausible.

  • it's a MD-11 and has actually 3 engines so he can use the thrust reverse even if one engine is shut down

  • wtf ... FEDEX 80 is this shit!

  • This is why not anyone can just become a pilot. You have to have the mental capacity t think as quick as they do in situations like those and still act calmly to save the day.

    : )

  • AWESOME!! what is this "Spirit of American" film?

  • It's a film that can be seen at the American Airlines museum in Dallas- very good museum for customers or employees of american or just fans of aviation.

  • SIMULADOR

  • very good video

  • Filete!!!!

  • Do you have a link for the rest of this documentary?

  • I have the DVD but I do not think this film is anywhere online.

  • Yep true flying skills

  • Awesome!

  • whoop! whoop! pull up!

  • Neat Video!
